Evangelism 101 (False Conversions)

PART 1 (INTRO)

THE WORK OF THE EVANGELIST

Matthew 9:37–38 “Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.””

Jesus’s prayer request

Every 5 fold office, gift, and mandate, is an extension of an aspect of God.

Doing the work of the evangelist is the heart of God.

To His disciples- He is saying this to you

2 Timothy 4:5 “But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”

You do not have to be an Evangelist to do the work of an evangelist. Not everyone is a 5 fold evangelist, we all have different callings different assignments in God.

Doing the work of an evangelist was connected to fulfilling his ministry as a Pastor. WHATEVER YOU ARE CALLED TO, DOING THE WORK OF AN EVANGELIST IS ALWAYS AN ASPECT OF FULFILLING YOUR CALL.

What if we all shared the gospel with 1 person a day. That is 365 people a year who have heard about Jesus. x30 10,950. X20 people that is 219,000

That is a whole crusade! This is the impact you can have. Evangelist carry the grace to see that happen all at once after years of refining. But we all have the ability to reach that number of people.

Do not under estimate what the Lord has put on the inside of you.

WHAT IT ISN’T

THERE IS NO SCRIPTURE IN THE BIBLE THAT TELLS US TO GO SAVE SOULS.

IT SAYS GO PREACH THE GOSPEL AND DEMONSTRATE MY POWER AND SHOW MY HEART/CHARACTER.

Mark 16:15 “And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”

WHAT IT IS- EVANGELISM IS THE ACT OF BEING A WITNESS FOR CHRIST

YOU ARE BAPTIZED IN THE HOLY GHOST TO BE A WITNESS. We are vessels to preach the gospel and demonstrate in power.

Acts 1:8 “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.””

Romans 10:14 “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?”

YOU ARE HIS REPRESENTATIVE ON EARTH. YOU ARE HIS REPRESENTATIVE TO SHOW HIS HEART, SPEAK HIS WORD, DEMONSTRATE IN POWER ETC. BODY, MOUTH, HANDS FEET.

DEMONSTRATE THROUGH YOUR LIFE- YOU WITNESS THROUGH YOUR TRANSFORMED LIFE

John 13:35 “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.””

TAKE THE BURDEN OFF- GOD DOES THE SAVING

Some day, but what if they do not get saved? And are fearful to go out

Romans 10:15–17 “And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!” But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

IT IS NOT YOUR JOB TO SAVE. IT IS YOUR JOB TO PLANT SEEDS. GOD DOES THE SAVING.

1 Corinthians 3:6–7 “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.”

John 16:8–11 “And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.”

No one can come to me unless the Father first draws him

So you present the gospel, give the word of knowledge, command the healing etc...

But it is God who brings increase to the Kingdom. GOD DOES THE REGENERATING WORK IN A PERSONS SOUL.

You are just the vessel. You are His hands and feet. He operates through the body. Which is why we are commanded to __

PART 2 (TONE AND DISCERNMENT, FLOWING WITH THE HS)

DISCERN YOUR AUDIENCE

The way Jesus preached publicly differed from how he ministered privately.

The way Jesus preached publicly also differed depending on His audience (plus other ministers in the Bible)

RELIGIOUS PHARISEES

Matthew 3:7 “But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?”

John the Baptist- BROOD OF VIPERS!

We stand and hold “turn or burn” signs and yell “repent or your all going to hell” but this is old wineskin.

Matthew 23:15 ““Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.”

Matthew 23:31–33 ““Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers’ guilt. Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?”

Jesus wasn’t speaking this way to everyone. He spoke this way to the religious hypocrites that were deceiving the masses and leading them to hell.

So we hold the turn or burn signs and tell everyone they are going to hell but how much more effective if we could follow the leading of the Holy Spirit and truly minister to the hearts of people?

There are more effective ways we can street preach AND minister one on one

SAMARITAN WOMAN

John 4:6–30 NKJV

Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour. A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?” Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.” Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’ for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.” And at this point His disciples came, and they marveled that He talked with a woman; yet no one said, “What do You seek?” or, “Why are You talking with her?” The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” Then they went out of the city and came to Him.

See the difference? God speaks to the hearts of people. HE knows what they need.

Would this same woman have been converted if Jesus has stood on the street with a sign saying REPENT OR BURN- pointing to her YOU VIPER! YOU ADULTEROUS WOMAN! HOW CAN YOU ESCAPE THE CONDEMNATION OF HELL YOU SINNER?!

Maybe God just needs you to walk in power and say nothing. Or maybe he will lead you to speak in a specific way.

Prophetic evangelism and showing his power. It is showing His goodness and confirming the word. How much more effective could a word of knowledge be then a repent sign? It softens hardened hearts. Do not estimate the gifts in the evangelism.

WOMAN CAUGHT IN ADULTERY

John 8:10–11 “When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.””

He was actually speaking grace to her. Empowering- go and sin no more. I have not condemned you.

PAUL IN ATHENS

Acts 17:22–32 NKJV

Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you: God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’ Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man’s devising. Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.” And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked, while others said, “We will hear you again on this matter.”

Paul knew his audience, and spoke accordingly.

THIS IS WHAT I ASK BEFORE EVERY SERVICE. He shows up every time.

Also a place for apologetics. Paul used this in this passage.

WHAT TONE ARE YOU SPEAKING IN

You can say hard truths to people from the correct tone of the heart, and it will be received well.

People can tell when you are ministering out of a genuine place of love for them.

Or when they are just a number to you to check off a box.

You can talk about sin, judgement, and hell out of a place of love and genuine concern for someone.

And you may need to speak in a different tone depending on your audience.

WHAT IS YOUR SPHERE OF INFLUENCE?

Galatians 2:7–9 NKJV

But on the contrary, when they saw that the gospel for the uncircumcised had been committed to me, as the gospel for the circumcised was to Peter (for He who worked effectively in Peter for the apostleship to the circumcised also worked effectively in me toward the Gentiles), and when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that had been given to me, they gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.

We all have different callings and assignments from God.

We all have different spheres of influence.

Crystal example. Lets wait. Because I know you are gifted to teach this.

There is a weight and authority when Crystal teaches this because it is part of her grace.

We can all do all things in Christ but depending on the call and assignment, we have stronger graces in certain gifts in certain areas.

God knows WHAT the people need to hear and WHO needs to deliver it.

Apostle deliverance example.

I am more heavy in SRA type deliverance. It is also OK to hand over a deliverance to someone who may carry keys for that person. Don’t be ashamed. Its humility and even honour.

Because what you overcome, you carry grace in.

When you overcome something you carry the keys to someone elses freedom.

So lets honour each others graces and not be competitive.

Find the people you are called to and run with it.
