Let us Continue to Worship God

Isaiah 53:3–6 LSB
3 He was despised and forsaken of men, A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; And like one from whom men hide their face He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. 4 Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our peace fell upon Him, And by His wounds we are healed. 6 All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But Yahweh has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.
Matthew 27:62–66 LSB
62 Now on the next day, the day after the Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered together with Pilate, 63 and said, “Sir, we remember that when He was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I am to rise again.’ 64 “Therefore, order for the grave to be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come and steal Him away and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last deception will be worse than the first.” 65 Pilate said to them, “You have a guard; go, make it as secure as you know how.” 66 And they went and made the grave secure, and along with the guard they set a seal on the stone.
Matthew 28:1–6 LSB
1 Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave. 2 And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it. 3 And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. 4 And the guards quaked from fear of him and became like dead men. 5 And the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. 6 “He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.
Introduction: Romans 10:5-13 True Christianity is a Risen-Christ-ianity
Introduction:
Romans 1 - Condemnation: All people suppress the truth of the Gospel and are under the wrath of God
Romans 2-5 - Justification: God imputes the righteousness of Jesus and declares righteous those who receive this righteousness by faith
Romans 6-8 - Sanctification: The Spirit of God takes us from salvation to glorification and produces within us the fruit of Christlikeness
Romans 9-11 - Evangelization: Those who have been delivered from the wrath of God and have been declared righteous through faith in Christ are to spread the Gospel throughout the entire world to all peoples and nations
Salvation is by the Father’s grace alone through the faith the Holy gives alone in the resurrected Christ alone
Romans (Chapter 39: True Confession (Romans 10:5–15))
“Israel” had failed to understand that the doctrine of justification was no novelty; it had been set forth early on in the Old Testament, particularly in the life of the patriarch Abraham. Justification before a holy God is by faith alone.
What is the Gospel?
The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus
On Resurrection Sunday we see these principles:
Gospel transformed hearts will always be hearts that share the Gospel
Gospel transformed hearts will always desire the salvation of others
Gospel transformed hearts will always produce hearts saved by faith in the resurrection and mouths that confess no other God but Jesus
Romans 1:4 LSB
4 who was designated as the Son of God in power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,
Romans 6:4 LSB
4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
Romans 10:5–13 LSB
5 For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of law: “The man who does these things shall live by them.” 6 But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will go up into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down), 7 or ‘Who will go down into the abyss?’ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).” 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, 9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, leading to righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, leading to salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes upon Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him, 13 for “Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
(1) A Gospel that proclaims the righteousness of faith (5-7)
Romans 10:5–7 LSB
5 For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of law: “The man who does these things shall live by them.” 6 But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will go up into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down), 7 or ‘Who will go down into the abyss?’ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).”
The impossibility of being justified by your goodness - only the Father can send the Son, only the Spirit can raise the Son
And in like manner, only God can take guilty sinners and make them righteous by clothing them in the righteousness of Jesus
(2) A Gospel that is Risen Lord Jesus centered(8-10)
Romans 10:8–10 LSB
8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, 9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, leading to righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, leading to salvation.
Deut 30:14 - Paul quotes and Moses and reaffirms that God does not hide the simplicity of the Gospel from us. If we have ears to hear and eyes to see, salvation by faith is clearly seen on every page of the Old Testament and in the teachings of Jesus. Literally, it is within our grasp, it is right in front of you.
Justification, to be declared righteous, by faith is there but many people refuse to see it, they suppress the simplicity of God’s gift.
To let this truth sink in, we must study and meditate upon God’s word every day
Notice how simple the gospel is:
Confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord
Believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead
Notice how hard it is:
Confess Jesus is Lord, Believe in the resurrection - Anyone can say the words. BUT!
But we must do this with authentic faith - it is not the size of your faith but the genuineness of your faith - and this is why we need the Holy Spirit to do a work of grace in our spiritually dead heart and give us the gift of faith so that we can truly believe.
Our hearts must be pierced, our hearts must be opened by the Spirit.
You must do more than profess - you must believe with your heart - pray that God would open your heart, pray that God would open the hearts of those we love
Notice the promise: You will be saved
If you are saved you will be transformed.Stop asking people if they have the Holy Spirit, or if they have accepted Christ and ask them how they have been transformed!
If you are saved you will bend before God’s truth, if you are saved you will live in obedience to your Master
There are some who are obsessed with whether or not they are truly saved, or whether or not they are part of the elect
Let me ask you this: Do you believe in your heart and trust in Christ alone for your salvation? Then you are saved and only the elect can do this.
Notice the final words: leading to salvation
(3) A Gospel that is for all who believe (11-13)
Romans 10:11–13 LSB
11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes upon Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him, 13 for “Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Verse 11 - whoever, verse 12 - all, verse 13 - whoever
vs 11 - whoever believes, verse 12 - all who call on Him, verse 13 - whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved
Notice you believe, you call but in verse 12 it is Jesus who is abounding in riches -
It is the finished work of Christ that has accomplished your salvation - not your goodness, not your failures, not your emotions
Christ has saved you, and the proff of your future resurrection is the resurrection of Jesus
And how do know, how can we be certain?
Is there a way to have certainty - there is - it’s called the Bible
Gospel transformed hearts will always be hearts that share the Gospel
Gospel transformed hearts will always desire the salvation of others
Gospel transformed hearts will always produce hearts saved by faith in the resurrection and mouths that confess no other God but Jesus
Now may the God who did not even hold back His very own Son but handed Him over for us all, provide you with every good thing you need in order to do His will and do in you what pleases Him. Amen.
1 Corinthians 11:23–26 LSB
23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was being betrayed took bread, 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until He comes.
