The Problem of Unbelief (vv 1-3)

Those who drew near in sorrow over his death.
They did not understand God’s purpose.
Three times he had told them of God’s plan.
Mark 8:31

And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again.

Mark 9:31-32

for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.” 32 But they did not understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him.

And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him, 33 saying, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles. 34 And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.”

Their sin still was to heavy to bear (like a stone) in their mind until they came to faith in Christ’s finished work.
Those who were near to prevent His resurrection.
Those who were near to prevent His resurrection.
The women were the first to witness Christ’s victory over the curse of sin and death.
Those who were near to prevent His resurrection.
They were overcome by the power of God.

The Power of God (vv 4-5)

The women were the first to witness Christ’s victory over the curse of sin and death.
We are justified by his death and resurrection - That is why his faith was “counted to him as righteousness.” 23 But the words “it was counted to him” were not written for his sake alone, 24 but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, 25 who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification. 1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
(ESV)
It is a power to live the Christian life -
22 That is why his faith was “counted to him as righteousness.” 23 But the words “it was counted to him” were not written for his sake alone, 24 but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, 25 who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification. 1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Promise of His Presence (vv 6-7)

“He is going before you.” Christ has gone before us and ascended into heaven.
The promise of eternal life! If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
