Introduction-
I find it an honor and a blessing to get to come before you today, to preach and share what Christ has done for us.
If you have your bibles open them to Luke 24
When we think about Easter we think eggs, we think chocolate, we think family gatherings.
Easter is one of my favorite holidays not because of the chocolate or the family time but because of what Christ did for You and I on the cross.
Many people don’t know what Easter is about, many people do not understand the true meaning of Easter.
Jesus took the punishment we rightfully deserve.
We look back at what Jesus done, he came to this earth and lived a sinless life.
We have the Bible specifically we have 4 books of the Bible they call the Gospels, these Gospels have the recorded Testimony of what happened and each one gives different important parts.
Now to explain to you what took place leading up to this day, Jesus was with his disciples praying.
Jesus spent time with his father in prayer.
Judas betrayed Jesus by turning him in to the authorities for money.
They took Jesus before Pilate, Pilate asked him are thou the king of the Jews? Luke 23:3 “And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it.”
Jesus responds with “Thou sayest it”, Jesus let them come out with their own Ideas.
Jesus specifically says you wont believe me if I tell you.
Jesus was beaten, mocked, and abused verbally. Why would he endure this?
Read Luke 23:27–33
And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him.
But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.
Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.
For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?
And there were also two other, malefactors, led with him to be put to death.
And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
Women are crying for Jesus, this is a gruesome sight to witness, and a very humiliating way of dying.
Jesus says don’t weep for me weep for your self, weep for others. But then he says something else that would blow anyone’s mind.
Luke 23:34 “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.”
He said “Forgive them for they no not what they do”
Even though they mocked him, even though they treated him badly he still forgave him.
In the book of John he says “it is finished”
He gave his spirit (Luke 23:46 “And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.” )
In Matthew 27:51 “And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;” .
Why is that important?
This is setting showing you the importance of today.
The temple was divided into two parts, you have the holy and holy of holy place.
Only the chosen ones could enter in, now we all can enter in cause Jesus paid the final price.
They brought him down from the cross and wrapped him in linen and put him in the tomb.
Now lets look at why we celebrate the day of the resurrection.

Read Luke 24:1-10, 44-49
Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
And they remembered his words,
And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.
It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.
And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
And ye are witnesses of these things.
And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
Jesus needed to be sacrificed for man kind.
Remember the story of Adam and Eve?
Adam and Eve sinned agains God and done what they were told not to do.
God clothed them, this is the first sacrifice to cover mans sin.
Jesus’ death on the Cross was the final one.
the son of man must suffer many things and chief priests and scribes and be slain, and be raised the third dayJesus says in Luke 9:22 “Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.”
Luke 24:7 “Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”
He says that he needs to be crucified so he can rise on the third day.
The Bible gives us the commandments in the Old Testament, that is how they lived then because they hadn’t yet had the lamb die for them.
We can not keep all the commandments, if you break one you broke them all.
There are so many people out there that do not understand the purpose for Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection.
Ephesians 2:8-9; For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God. Not of works lest any man should boast.
We can not work our way to heaven so there had to be something given to help us there.
There is a problem with this world today.
So many people Do not BELIEVE!
Luke 24:25–26 “Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?”
We had prophets come before and tell everyone and you still didn’t believe.
Gods plan was to send the ultimate sacrifice so we could be in glory with him.
I’ve got family that doesn’t understand or believe, **tell the story of me sharing Jesus with Dyllan***
This world today has brain washed many people, they don’t understand the importance of Jesus.
We need to be sharing the truth with people, but what it that truth?
It’s not just a belief, its a relationship and repentance!
Luke 24:44–49 “And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Jesus died on the cross for our sins, so we could be in heaven with him.
Jesus makes your life better and takes care of you, through everything.
It’s a gift that he has given us so we don’t parish in hell.
We Live our life day to day, I had this belief that if I was good enough I’d get to heaven but thats not true our sins separate us from God and that is why Jesus took the punishment on the cross for us.
Story of stopping the cow last year and being dragged around.
Last spring I was helping my father-in-law with his cows and if any of you know if done right your calfing season is usually in the spring. He has red herferds, but he had one in particular that was a little skidish of people. she was due to calf and had some complications, we tried to get her in the barn but didn’t want anything to do with it. We ended up chasing this cow around for about 4 hours trying to get her to just standstill long enough so we can help her. Finally I was able to get a lasso around her neck but when you have a 300-400 cow running she out weighs me by a lot , so guess what happened to me.. Thats right I was being dragged through the field on my belly until my brother-in-law was able to get a hold of it and help me.
Many times our problems in our lives are like that cow, but when you lean on Christ he helps you take it day by day.
Unfortunately because we couldn’t get that cow to let us help her, she died and the calf died as well. We can not take this life lightly cause we may come across the same way, we may not be an animal running from the dumb farmers cause we are scared but we are the sinners running from the free gift that God gives us.
We need to be sharing what Christ did for us and that’s why we plan to take the Gospel to Brazil, so that they hear the truth.
For Whosoever call upon the name of the lord shall be saved.
The difference between the sacrifices before and the ultimate sacrifice is we don’t need someone talking to God for us, we can go to him ourselves.
John 3:16- For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever should believe on him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
Conclusion:
Listen we are not promised tomorrow, we are not promised the next hour but we do have this promise that Christ rose from the dead for us.
Believe on Christ today Give your life to him so you don’t perish.
Revelation 20:15 “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
Are you gonna be cast in the lake of fire? Or are you going to heaven?
