We sometimes feel like we been wronged by another person rather it be small or big the human part of us or as the bible says the Flesh part of us want revenge want to see the wrong that person done towards us done to them. But the Lord said in and we will read it again when we read the scripture in Romans 12:19 “Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” So how as Christians are we suppose to handle situations ?
Lord said Turn the other cheek Matthew 5:39 “But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.” Our Lord is saying you can’t pay back wrong with wrong. Two Wrongs don’t make a right . Back in Romans 12:14-21 Paul writes a guide on how a Christian should handle these situations
Scripture Read
Scripture Read
Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
Verse 14
Verse 14
Lets take a look at Verse 14 right is says Romans 12:14 “Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.” Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:44 “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;” As follows of Christ we are not supposed to Hate anyone but Love everyone. We can hate the actions of that person but Love the person. Hate the Sin not the sinner . You may dislike the stuff your sibling does sometimes I know my sister can get me so mad I can’t understand why she did some she did but I still Love my sister. We go back and we see the word Bless a few times through this what does it mean to Bless well in this example it means to speak well of don’t go around down talking the one that did you wrong to others.
Verse 18
Verse 18
Romans 12:18 “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.”
Paul is telling us to seek peace not a fight. It better to seek Unity than division Ephesians 4:3 “Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”
Verse 19
Verse 19
Now back to verse 19 Romans 12:19 “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” You got to let God take control everyone has to face their judgement so day I got to you got too everyone has there day in the hotseat to answer for all we have done. Revenge might sound like it will make you feel better but all you are doing is putting a band aid over a open wound. Vengeance does not allow peace and unity so without that healing can’t take place. I’m not saying don’t stick up for yourself but you got to choose your fight wisely there is a time to fight and a time to turn the other cheek
Verse 20
Verse 20
Verse 20 I really like this verse right here I didn’t get it at first and your probably won’t either but when you actually break it down and study it there alot of good in it. Romans 12:20 “Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.”
That last part of the verse is a thinker isn’t it ? What does it mean to heap coals of fire on someone head ? Is Paul telling us to set someone head on fire ? No
So after studying the verse what this verse is say is too kill them with kindness. Instead of revenge turn the other cheek and do good toward them and by doing so their conscience will start to burn and they will feel shame and remorse for the way they treated you.
Verse 21
Verse 21
And lastly this last verse sums up all over it Romans 12:21 “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”
So we know after going through this scripture we need to seek peace not revenge , choose our fights wisely turning the other cheek when we can and treat those that do us wrong with Kindness not anger
