Those Crazy Women!

Jesus has been dead for three days. He died on Friday

On Saturday Pilate is convinced by the Jewish rulers to have an armed guard at the entrance to the tomb.

But something happens. On Sunday these three crazy women and their friends head to the tomb.

Now picture this in you mind this group of women early in the morning just after sunrise. they are carrying spices to anoint Jesus body? but why?

This is the first question.

John 19:39–40 NIV

He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs.

So why did the women ...

Have you ever felt like you simply had to do something? God is tugging at your heart, you don’t know what you need to do or how you are going to do it, but you need to do something?

I think this is what the women were feeling… Jesus had died, this man who had taught them so much was gone, and they felt helpless.

Mark 16:1–3 NIV

When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”

They don’t even know how they are going to be able to get to the body of Jesus, but they feel like that have to do something.

So then as they approach the tomb they can see that it looks like the stone has been moved… talk about this!!

As they get closer the excitement builds because the tomb is open..

but excitement changes to horror as they realize that Jesus body is missing.

verse 4 is interesting.

Luke 24:4 NIV

While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them.

What does that mean? did they have time to panic?

to curse roman, or the Jewish rulers

So these questions are interesting and fascinating, but I want us to focus on the response of the angles.

Why do you look for the living among the dead, He is not here He is risen.

So in a nut shell what the angles are saying to the women is why are you here? right.

what did you expect to find?

they are saying to the women, you guys missed it!

you came here you knew that God was tugging on your heart, so you thought well we need to do what WE can do.

that what was happening with the spices… look Nicodemus had already anointed Jesus with 75 lbs of spices.. they job was done.

but the Human side kicked in and instead of simply going to the tomb they thought THEY had to fix it.

Look Easter is not about us, its about Jesus. He told them this would happen, He told them He would rise again. But they missed.

Lets not miss it!
