I. The Cross matters today.
A. For anyone to find hope in today’s world, it must be remembered that there is no resurrection without the cross.
Paul reminds us that without the resurrection, we are to be pitied.
But without dealing with the penalty of sin, our hope would still be weak and plagued with insecurity.
The cross is the base for our justification.
It is by the Father’s approval of his sacrifice and payment for our sin that we are declared righteous by grace through faith in the Gospel.
John Piper writes in the Passion of Jesus Christ that by addressing 50 reasons Jesus came to die, he is only scratching the surface.
The cross still matters today for sinners to find freedom, forgiveness and hope for today and forever.
