( NLT-SE)
Jesus' Valedictory
We are here to reflect on Jesus valedictory.
A Valedictory serves as a farewell message or parting and is last and final.
What one says at the time of their death reveals how they lived and the conduct of their character.
As we look at Jesus valedictory he shows his nature and how he lives is how he will die.
Some come to the end of their life nonchalantly like Marie Antoinette who said, “Monsieur, I beg your pardon.
I did not do it on purpose.”—
Marie Antoinette’s last words, apologizing to her executioner for stepping on his foot, 1793.
Or as the Greek Mathematician, Archimedes, “Wait,” he demanded, “till I am finished with this puzzle.”
Some may have the outlook of Beethoven as he joked, “Clap now, my friends, the comedy is done.”
What is finished - what is "it"?
It is the work of Jesus on this earth is finished.
He came to proclaim the coming kingdom and lead the children to repentance.
His public ministry began repent for the kingdom of God is at hand.
Jesus came to show us the way.
John’s gospel gives us this awesome truth that the Son came to the world so that the world might be saved and not condemned.
Jesus came to preach, show and provide salvation.
This came to fruition and total completion on the cross.
Not before but at the cross.
IT is now full filled.
IT is the life work of Jesus.
Jesus came to earth to die why others try to live.
He shifted the paradigm by showing that in order to live we must die.
This was the it, the work of Christ.
Now IT is FINISHED
The nails in his hand and a spike in his foot.
They crown of thorns on his head were just apart of the completion of his humiliation.
let us know that the lamb would be slain.
4 Yet it was our weaknesses he carried;
it was our sorrows that weighed him down.
it was our sorrows* that weighed him down.
And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God,
And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God,
a punishment for his own sins!
a punishment for his own sins!
5 But he was pierced for our rebellion,

crushed for our sins.
But he was pierced for our rebellion,
He was beaten so we could be whole.
crushed for our sins.
He was whipped so we could be healed.

So now he has loved his life about to breath his last and his words reflect on how he lived to die and now the time has come.
How will you die?
When it comes to your valedictory will you look to the Father.
And when it is all said and done will you be at peace that you lived because you died.
If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it.
But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.
And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?
Is anything worth more than your soul?(NLT)
When our life is finished and the end of the works has come we want of hear these last words "well done, my good and faithful servant..."
