Introduction

Righteousness is a word that is not strange or should not be strange to people who have heard about holiness and the nature of God. The word means "to cause someone to be in a proper or right relation with someone else—‘to put right with, to cause to be in a right relationship with.

The greek word dikaiosune means right action, a gracious gift of God whereby all who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ are brought into right relationship with God.
It is not something attainable by obedience to any law or by any merit of man's own or any other condition that that of faith in Christ.
It is a noun word whose verb is *dikaioo* which is justify. In the english righteousness and justification don't look close but they are in the greek
In the OT, the sense of the word righteousness was to be just and right, to have justice. In the NT, the same ideas come out, that all that comes from God is righteous, His judgements are righteous. In Christ is the righteousness of God revealed.

- We are to strive for a righteous life and righteous living because we have been saved in Christ.
