Starting a new series today all about the LoGOS… the Word….The bible.
The reliability, the trustworthiness, the origins and the supernatural power of the word of God
What is it?
Who wrote it?
Can i trust in it?
Why believe it?
Logos (λόγος) in Greek means: The Word, Message…. or Divine expression
the word is unlike anything else we have, it is completely unique in its form. and its imperative that we know our bibles.

Before we dive in - here is the BIG QUESTION: why do a series about the bible?
-The word is not known
-The word is not respected
-The word is too important not to know
-If you know the word, you will lead a better life.

Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life Chapter Two: Bible Intake (Part 1) … for the Purpose of Godliness (Vance Havner)

It’s hard to imagine that many of us

“ There simply is no healthy Christian life apart from a diet of the milk and meat of Scripture.”
(Yes, I know that’s a big statement)
*** across the west and especially in ameerica thre is what experst are calling a below average knowledge of scripture****
On our church website - Colonialchurch.life you wilol find our statement of beliefs or what we believe page and the very first thing you will read is this:
“We believe the Bible is God’s Word. It is accurate, authoritative, and applicable to our everyday lives.”
to be apart of this church means you are in a large group and following leaders who place a high value on the word of God.
What were going to do in this series is ask some of the key questions….. but as a general rule when it comes to the scripture our job is simple!
We read (so its heard) Gods word / Faith comes from Hearing and how we hear it if someone doesnt READ IT to us.
We believe Gods word (you cant have faith unless youve heard it)
We declare Gods word (we declare its power and like a lion is truth - just let it out and itll defend itself)
… and if you like we return every week, to the word

SO WHAT IS THE BIBLE?

The Bible is a supernatural artifact. It is a unified narrative arc that spans
66 books,
written over 1,500 years by 40 authors, from kings to fishermen, yet it maintains one singular, unwavering
message: “the redemption of man through the sacrifice of the Son”
The bible is a love letter from God to you. the problem is most people never read it. thats our opportunity to change that. here is what i am believing for this series we’ll be in for a few weeeks here LoGOS as we talk about the bible.
you will fall in love with it all over again.
(get a physical bible)
Mathematically, the probability of such unity occurring by chance is statistically zero. It is not
merely information; it is the "seed" of the Kingdom (1 Peter 1:23: "since you have been born
again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God;”).
Just as an acorn contains the blueprint of an entire oak tree, the Bible contains the blueprint of
the life of God within the believer.
Fun Fact: The Bible was the first major book ever printed. Johannes Gutenberg finished his movable-type printing press edition of the Latin Vulgate around 1455 AD.
The Bible is the best-selling book of all time. It is estimated that more than five billion copies have been sold or distributed throughout history.

1.READ IT AND IT WILL READ YOU

2 Timothy 3:16–17 ESV
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Profitable: always adding.
positive for refroof, correction, training
But here is why - because the bible is a mirror & a guide
a diagnostic tool, and then a treatment plan
its a map for life… and a treasure itself.
But the bible reads you as you read it.
Hebrews 4:12 ESV
12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hear it, Read it
But if you get it into you - it will be like a mirror

If you still doubt that Christians need to be exhorted to discipline themselves to read the Bible, consider this: USA Today reported a poll just three months before this writing that showed only

Jesus often asked questions about people’s understanding of the Scriptures, beginning with the words, “Have you not read …?” He assumed that those claiming to be the people of God would have read the Word of God. And a case can be made that this question implies a familiarity with the entire Word of God.

When Jesus said, “Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” (

How much should i read it?

Surely we only have to be realistic and honest with ourselves to know how regularly we need to turn to the Bible. How often do we face problems, temptation and pressure? Every day! Then how often do we need instruction, guidance and greater encouragement? Every day! To catch all these felt needs up into an even greater issue, how often do we need to see God’s face, hear his voice, feel his touch, know his power? The answer to all these questions is the same: every day!

As the American evangelist D. L. Moody put it, “A man can no more take in a supply of grace for the future than he can eat enough for the next six months, or take sufficient air into his lungs at one time to sustain life for a week. We must draw upon God’s boundless store of grace from day to day as we need it.”

2.DO WHAT IT SAYS AND YOUR LIFE WILL TRANSFORM

I know thats a huge statement —why? because its God breathed: Because the Bible is "God-breathed," to reject a portion of Scripture is to reject the very breath
of God. If God is holy, His communication must also be holy, perfect, and authoritative. We
cannot claim to love the Author while ignoring His instructions.
Our reluctance to obey is an
exposure of our remaining rebellion.
Means we still think we can bring that profitability to our own lives
Luke 9:24–26 ESV
24 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. 25 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? 26 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

The “Power of 4” Study

Researchers analyzed 40,000+ people to see how often they engaged with the Bible and how it affected their lives.

🔑 The key finding:

There’s a huge jump in life impact when someone reads the Bible 4+ times per week📈 The pattern they found
FrequencyImpact0–1 times/weekBasically no measurable difference from non-readers2 times/weekVery small impact3 times/weekSlight bump4+ times/weekMassive spike in life change
👉 They described it like a “cliff” or “breakpoint” at 4 times per week.

💥 What changes at 4+ times/week?

Compared to people who rarely read:
Feeling lonely drops ~30%
Anger issues drop ~32%
Bitterness drops ~40%
Alcoholism drops ~57%
Sex outside marriage drops ~68%
Sharing faith increases ~200%+
Discipling others increases ~230%
SO HERE IS THE BIG QUESTION: why would reading this ancient but aliver document shift my life so drastically if i read it every day? or almost eveery day?
the “why” behind that 4x/week shift isn’t random at all. It lines up with how human behavior and habit formation actually work.

🧠 1. It crosses the “habit threshold”

Reading the Bible 1–3 times a week is usually:
Sporadic, Reactive (only when you feel like it), Easy to forget
But at 4+ times/week, it becomes:
Rhythmic
Part of your routine Something your brain starts to expect
👉 Psychologically, this is when something shifts from intentional effort → automatic behavior

🔁 2. Repetition rewires thinking (neuroplasticity)

Your brain changes based on what it’s repeatedly exposed to.
Occasional exposure = information you forget Frequent exposure = patterns that shape how you think
At 4+ times/week: Themes repeat (grace, forgiveness, truth, identity) Your brain starts defaulting to those ideas
👉 It’s less about “learning facts” and more about forming instincts

⏳ 3. It keeps ideas “top of mind”

There’s a concept in psychology called the recency effect:
The things you encounter most recently influence your decisions the most.
If you read: Once a week → it fades before it affects your week 4+ times → it’s still active in your mind when life happens
👉 That’s when it starts affecting:
Reactions Emotions Choices

🧩 4. It creates cumulative understanding

The Bible isn’t designed to be understood in isolated pieces.
At low frequency: You get disconnected stories Hard to see the big picture
At higher frequency:Connections start forming Context builds Meaning deepens
👉 It shifts from confusing → coherent

❤️ 5. It moves from external to internal

At low engagement:
The Bible feels like something “outside” of you Easy to ignore or compartmentalize
At consistent engagement: It becomes part of your inner dialogue
👉 Instead of: “What does the Bible say about this?”
It becomes:“This is just how I think now.”

⚡ 6. It competes with other influences

Everyone is already being “discipled” by something:
Social media, News, Culture, Friends
If Bible input is:
Occasional → it loses that competition Frequent → it competes and reshapes influence
4+ times/week is enough to start winning that influence battle

The simplest way to understand it

Think of it like this:
= visiting a place 1–3 times/week
= living there 4+ times/week
And you’re always shaped more by where you live than where you visit.

One honest note

This doesn’t mean:
Every person who reads 4x/week experiences instant transformation Or that it’s a “magic number”
What it does mean is: 👉 Consistency is the tipping point where change becomes much more likely
If you want, I can show you a really simple way to hit that 4x/week rhythm without it feeling like a chore—that’s usually the part people struggle with.
YOUR LIFE WILL BEGIN TO BLOSSOM RICHLY WITH THE WORD AND ALWAYS BE SOMETHING THAT IS A BLESSING TO EVERYONE AROUND YOU

BUILD YOUR LIFE ON THE ROCK
Notes/ Research:
BOULDER, Colo. — New research by Barna Group and Gloo, as part of their State of the Church initiative, reveals a historic shift in church attendance. For the first time in decades, younger adults, specifically Gen Z and Millennials, are now the most regular churchgoers, surpassing older generations who have traditionally led in church attendance. The typical Gen Z churchgoer now attends 1.9 weekends per month, while Millennials average 1.8 times, representing a steady upward shift since the attendance decline observed during the pandemic. In fact, the frequency of churchgoing for Millennials and Gen Z has nearly doubled in just five years, rising from approximately one weekend per month in 2020 to nearly two in 2025.
“The makeup and rhythms of church life are shifting,” said David Kinnaman, CEO of Barna Group. “Young people today are showing a renewed openness to faith, and many are finding their way back into church communities. This moment invites leaders to lean in and guide young people toward deeper faith. While churchgoing alone doesn’t form disciples, churches that offer relational connection, volunteer engagement, and clear discipleship pathways that resonate with younger generations can help them build a resilient and lasting faith.”
Overall, the data shows that even regular churchgoers do not attend often. Among all self-described Christian churched adults, the average attendance is 1.6 times per month, or roughly two out of every five weekends. While older adults have historically been the most reliable churchgoers for decades, their participation rates have consistently declined over the past 25 years. Looking back, Elders (those born before 1946) who attended about 2.3 times per month in 2000 now attend around 1.4 times, and Boomers’ attendance has dropped from 2.0 to 1.4 times per month. Gen X attendance has remained steady, sitting at 1.6 times per month, but has not seen growth.
“These shifts in church attendance open the door for leaders to innovate in how they engage with their people,” said Brad Hill, president, Gloo Media Network. “Since many aren’t in the pews every week, churches that prioritize relational touchpoints and digital engagement — through text, social media and other online tools — can better reach younger generations where they already are. Every interaction counts, and this trend presents an opportunity for leaders to help grow their faith in new and impactful ways.”
