They're making their way out when a welcome, anyone who's visiting with us today. We're glad that you're here today and if you didn't stop by or Welcome Center, we have a gift for you. So on the sidewalk that way, we'd love for you to pick that up. If you head out today we're going to be in Hebrews chapter 9, as we continue to work our way through this wonderful letter and we've been building and building about the Majesty of Christ in his work and how sufficient it is and how much better it is than the old Covenant and all that's coming to a climax and then really turning in a couple weeks to really dive into the application off of all that Waltz been woven in. It's really going to try to turn a corner and say, hey now, because of these things, how do we live our lives in light of these marvelous truths? Do Hebrews chapter 9 15 through 28. Speaking about our Eternal inheritance. Imagine with me for a minute, that's your phone rings. And someone tells you that you're about to receive an incredible inheritance. The first thoughts that might come to your mind is. Obviously, this is a hoax, right? Because there's all sorts of hoaxes, such as that, you're going to receive this. Just send a little bit of money for his first of all, and will get it sent right over to you. We all know that game or hopefully. So, so you're going to think this might be a scam but it, if you, for some reason, had a sense that it was real. Hopefully, your first songs not? Yes. I'm going to be rich because in reality, while inheritance is a nice thing and it it's great. If you happen to receive an inheritance, you're thankful for that. You know, if you get too excited, there might be a problem. Because if you get too excited, you're forgetting the details of inheritance and inheritance comes to you. Because what, because somebody has died, right? It's the result of that. There was a death and as a result, you received the inheritance. And so while it may be a blessing, there was a death that occurred and took your first instinct was To shout yippee. Hooray, you might want to think about that a little more. He should be burdened right at in, at the same time, thankful what happens but in the inheritance it's only possible when one dies and our tax. Today, we're speaking about, our Eternal inheritance, which is only possible through the death of Jesus. Hebrews 9 starting verse 15 And therefore he is the mediator of a New Covenant so that those who are called they receive the promised Eternal inheritance. Since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first Covenants, For where a will is involved, the death of the one who made, it must be established. Or will takes effect only at death since there's not in force. As long as the one who made it is a live there for not even the first Covenant was inaugurated without blood for when every commandment of the law has been declared by Moses to all the people. He took the blood of calves, and goats with water and Scarlet, wall, and hyssop, and sprinkled, both the book itself, and all the people, Sing. This is the blood of the Covenant that God commanded for you. And in the same way he sprinkled with the blood, both the tent and all the messages used in worship, indeed, under the wall, most everything is purified with blood without the shedding of blood. There is no forgiveness of sins. It was necessary for the copies of the Heavenly things to be purified with these rights, but the Heavenly things themselves with a better sacrifices, the knees. For Christ has enter not into holy places, made with hands, which are copies of the true things. But into heaven itself now to appear in the presence of God, on our behalf nor was it off himself. Repeatedly as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood on his own for. Then he would have to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And just as it is appointed for man to die once and after that comes judgment. So Christ haven't been offered once to Bear the sins of many will pierce a second time. Not to deal with sin but to save those for eagerly waiting for him. What spray
God. We thank you this morning. For your word. Did you have spoken to us? Did you declare to us the way of Salvation through Jesus Christ?
and God is, we read your words this morning and is we discuss your word God. We pray that it would change our hearts.
God, we pray that if our hearts are hard, we are spiritually dead. But you replace them to give us a life. Got if we have life in our hearts, I pray that you would impress upon us even more. The greatness of the Salvation that you've given to us.
That you'd impress Upon a Time credible. Your Grace is
but it was costly.
That Jesus gave his life. Has a ransom.
And I got, we would not just know these things as head knowledge. but understanding these realities in these truths that are in your word would cause us to live different And every aspect of Our Lives. I pray this in Jesus name, amen.
There was a promise. And inheritance and eternal inheritance. We think about that idea, that it was promised. When you think about a promise that's been made you, there's a critical factor of a promise that's made. Is it has lots of promises made throughout life. That's come to nothing. Because of the one that promised it. But here, when we speak about this eternal inheritance, that was promised. We recognize that the promise maker is God himself. That the promise maker is the one who is always faithful to do whatever. He says, the promise makers one who is all-powerful to carry out whatever he so desires to do, That's the promise maker, this eternal inheritance and so when we read that there is a promise, we know that the promise we'll come to be because God is faithful as we read about this promise, we recognize that there are certain conditions that had to be met for us to receive this promised Eternal inheritance, and some verses 16 and 17, the writer gives us the show us tration. To point this out says, for where a will is involved the death of the one who made, it must be established. Her will takes effect, only a death. Since it is not enforced. As long as the one who made it is alive. You are the beneficiary of someone's will, When what, when they died it, as long as they're winning is not yours. And once there was a death then it is passed along to you, so you don't get it until them. Is that and the proper conditions, to hand this on this eternal inheritance, it wasn't Mets in the old. Covenant, there's a standard. There's something that has to take place in what took place in the old Covenant did not satisfy that. The conditions weren't properly met under the old Covenant verses 18 through 22. And in those passages in his versus he, he explains again some what we've already went through his and he's bringing this back again to demonstrate the work. That was done there for, not even the first cabinet was inaugurated without blood. when every commandment of the wall have been declared by Moses, to all the people, he took the blood of cows and goats with water Scarlet wall, and his up and sprinkle both book itself and all the people, The blood is being said, there's a type of blood being shed as being sprinkled on things. It's it's giving a demonstration of a type of cleansing. And as of the sprinkler you saying, this is the blood of the Covenant that God commanded for you. In the same way, he sprinkled the blood with the blood Bowl 2 tent, and all the vessels used in worship. Indeed, under the almost. Everything is purified with blood. Without the shedding of blood, there's no forgiveness of sins. Why, why did everything is to be purified with blood? Because there is nothing clean, but God,
And so there is a type of shutting a blood in its being spread. It's at this picture of cleansing through it. That there's a need. The nothing is pure. But but this death, these animals is very valuable animals. These weren't just any this these weren't the ones that you had that was not going to make it anyways. Let's give that one. These were the best of the best, they were the cream of the crop. These were the ones that had value for the community. In these were the ones the very best at their blood was shed.
And yet it was not sufficient. So the promised inheritance, even with all that work. Even after that, they animals being their blood being shed again, and again, again year after year, after year, the promise inheritance could not be distributed. So if you're expecting an inheritance, you did everything that you thought was necessary to collect it, but then you're told that, sorry, there's a problem.
You think? Wait, I I went, I think I went through all the steps and they say, no, no, no, sorry, you can't have it.
He may go to somebody else. Hey, I need help here. There is there is an inheritance that's supposed to be mine. I feel like I went through all the hoops and yet for some reason I'm not able to receive it. It's a you go to some of you take it, can you help me? Can you go on my behalf? I I need to figure out what must be done. Had that this problem can be solved so that I can receive this promise inheritance. You find somebody to help somebody to go on your behalf a 24 through 26, for a prize has and you're not only into the place is made with hands, which is a copy of the tree thing to put into having to sell fly. Now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf and as we saw in 15, he's a mediator that we needed somebody. We needed somebody to go in between. Some of this is all the problem for us because we were incapable In the process of y'all come it was not sufficient. And so Jesus goes as an in-between as the mediator
On our behalf. We seen this concept of a mediator even now with what's going on in the world and that Pakistan has become the mediator between United States and Iran that pack message. Hey, let me, let me go in between you all and try and solve the problem, right? There's a problem between us and God because of our sin we can't deal with it. We can't receive the inheritance. We need somebody to go for us. We know that Pakistan was the go-between that they were to serve as the mediator and so they worked to make a deal in which both parties would be satisfied. And as we found out last night, they were unable to do that.
They were unsuccessful, vice president announced last night that they could not make a deal. Pakistan in a sense failed as the mediator in that situation.
Thankfully Jesus do not go to God on our behalf and then come back and say I'm sorry. No, agreement could be made.
I would rather he was faithful as a mediator. He was perfect as mediator. Good on the verse 25. Speaking of the work of Christ nor was it to offer himself repeatedly as the high priest enter the holy places every year with blood, not his own. For then, he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is he appeared, once for all at the end of the ages, to put away sin by the sacrifice of him self. Just didn't have to go back. You didn't say, I'm sorry, I couldn't get a deal this time, but I'll try again for you. It. And okay, I failed again but I'll try again for you. That's not the way it works with Christ. He went one time into the presence of God Created a perfect Covenant that satisfied the Lord commanded. The other satisfied God it was the offended party and a deal that grants us the inheritance. Jesus died to seal this New Covenant that was made, we know that his death was sufficient. One time and it didn't even done again. You offered his own life, a perfect life, not the blood of bulls and goats, but a man of God man his own life and that that satisfied, the sin. How do we know we know? Because of the Resurrection, he roast is Victorious, over sin and death demonstrating. That his work was sufficient, that God was pleased, that our sin was dealt with perfectly. Our sins forgiven in there. For the inheritance, could be passed on
But there's something more to this that I don't think we always think about you think Jesus didn't just make it possible. To receive inheritance. It wasn't that he did the things and he said, okay I got it all situated for you now, go ahead and take it. Would rather Jesus or something more. He actually gives the inheritance to All God's Children. He goes on, he distributes. Its He places it Upon Our Lives. Dragon vs 15. Therefore, he is the mediator of a New Covenant so that those who are called may receive the promised Eternal inheritance. This is a definite thing that they will receive it. You are those who are called it is for those who are called those were called are True. Believers of the old covenants and True. Believers are the new covenants that it encompasses all those that will truly Place their faith in the one true Living God, or their past present or future.
And the taxes add to that. Jesus was a mediator of a New Covenant, so it was something new and new covenants and therefore applied to those under the New Covenant. But also, he pointed out that those of the old Covenant sins were forgiven as well. His work covered, the sins are God's children for all time. Without him. There was no hope of the past no hope. Now. No hope for anyone in the future.
Enter it to Central, then that's winter stand. That he doesn't just offer it as I said, but rather, he gives it. Why why does he give the inheritors? Why does he handed out to us? Why doesn't he just say, okay, I did the work go and take it sad. You were will, why is that? It's because we're unable to do what's necessary to accept it, then that we can't do. What would need to be done to accept it to receive it. I'm going to look through several passages here. So we try and get our mind around this concept as we see it through the scripture, Psalm 14 to 33, the Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there's any who understand who seek after God.
They have all turned aside. Together, they have the, cropped there is none. Who does good. Not even one.
Notice how is static? That is not even. Once is a God is God, is looking over all the world looking over all the people that have ever existed. All those people that will exist in the future is looking, who is it that seeking me. Who is there? Who wants to know me? He is working and he's looking at his looking and the conclusion is, there is not even one, not one single person. Think about. There's eight billion people in the world. Now think he will pass all the people in the future, not one of them.
Out of their own will sought-after. God wanted God. In Ephesians chapter 2, verses 1 through 3 and you were dead in your trespasses and sins. And what you once walked following the course the world following the prince of the power of the air. The spirit that is not working the sons of disobedience.
Among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the Flesh. And the mind, and we're buying nature children of Wrath, like, the rest of man, kind nurse. Our very nature was that we were children of Wrath. We were dead in our trespasses and sins. How are you going to get up? And take the inheritance for yourself? If you are dead spiritually, if you're a child of Wrath, you're under the influence of Satan. Are you going to do that? You can't do it. In Ephesians for we see the same concept as we go down a couple. Chapters know this ice and testify in the Lord and that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do in the Futurity of their minds. They're dark and in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to their hardness of hearts. Them hard Hearts, they can't live, life is not possible in the situation, you know, that's why the prophets talk about the need of the necessity through the spirit of God, for heart transplants. I think you're 36 and I will give you a new heart and a new spirit. I'll put within you and I will remove the Heart of Stone from your flesh and give you a hug and give you a heart of Flesh. And I will put my spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. Why did those Israelites continually fail and reject God, and worship false, Idols? That heart hearts Heart of Stone. That's a certain level of hardness, that's a dead hardness. And so, what was the solution switch was Jesus? And the spirit of God, taking out the hardest Stone, giving a heart of Flesh. And as a result, what then they would be caused to walk in the statutes and carefully obey the rule. If they have a new heart, heart that desired to follow after God's Own Heart, that would see the goodness of God's instructions in the world. They would have loved it. I want to see. It is a burden and I, why can't I do this or why do I do this? But I get to do this. So good that he's giving restrictions for my love. And my Karen, Everything's changed it to New Hearts until were born spiritually with heart disease, but it's not just like heart disease, like, you're going to need some work. As hard as he's like, it's taking you out. It's wiped you out your dead. There's nothing flowing through there, anymore not beating So we don't need a defibrillator, we don't need. Somebody is at 2 to you know, to handle something and say, here you go.
Take care of yourself. Right. It would we need somebody to do it for us. We need somebody to do the work that we cannot do. We need the saving work of God. Apply to our lives.
And so that's what we find in this texting throughout the scriptures. Memphis incredible toning work of Jesus.
Did not just offer. Our salvation. Do you still do the work and say here just you know, if you want it take it if you don't. All right, don't
But rather, what's so Majestic about this is that the atoning works of Jesus, not only did what was necessary. But he applies that. To our lives. The atoning Works of Jesus doesn't make cellvation, just possible the atoning work of jeans actually saves. Something that you and I could not do something that nobody could do without the grace of God. We at least see this wrapped in this idea that is the day of atonement and I want to look at their own will get some other passages, but this atonement, the atonement of the old coming at the atonement of Jesus was braver specific people and it was applied to those. That was made for. Once again we talked about a couple months ago but if you look at the Old Testament and the old Covenant, you look at the day of atonement Who, who was it for? Who was it applied to? It wasn't applied to every individual upon the whole world. But this was for the people of Israel for the Covenant, people of God. And and who was it up? I do is apply to the Covenant people of God, it was for them.
We get back at first 15 and therefore he is the mediator of a New Covenant so that those who are called. There's a specific people. There may receive the promise Eternal inheritance and I would say that that's not just like it's possible for them to receive. Those are called me receive the promise you turn on heritance since the death has occurred that what redeems them? A work has occurred that redeems them then actually doesn't it buys them back. The work is sufficient, the work is applied in their life because 2011 we see here. Also, that is pointing out that this is for a people and it's done for them, soak rice. Haven't been offered wants to Bear the sins of many will appear a second time. Not to deal with similar to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. Who did he bear The Sims 4? What is the tax rate for many? He bore the sins for many in. Those are the people which he, in fact, say if he died for his people, the death actually redeems. Now is, this idea is a something just that we find here at Hebrews, this is all throughout the scriptures that this is an applied work of God Upon Our Lives. Matthew, think about Matthew, 26, 27, 28, Jesus, with his disciples. He took a cup when you given thanks. He that you gave it to them saying this is familiar, you're going. Okay, this is one of their he's gave it to them saying drink of it. All of you for this is the blood of the Covenant which is poured out for Many for the Forgiveness of sins, those that the blood was poured out for will. In fact, be saved by the grace of God. It's it. It applied for the many than the many are. Those who are called by God's grace. The many others that are called her. They're also called the sheep and the John 10, John 10, 11 through 16, Jesus is speaking, I am the Good Shepherd. He's good. He's so good. Why? Because the Good Shepherd, he says the lays down his life for the Sheep, he lays down his life for the Sheep.
He is a Hired Hand and not a Shepherd who does not own. The Sheep sees the wolf coming and we use the sheep and fleas in the wall, snatches them, and scatters them. He flees because he's a Hired Hand cares. Nothing for the Sheep. I am the Good Shepherd. Jesus says again. I know my own in my, oh my oh, no meat just as the father knows me. And I know the father and I lay down my life for the Sheep. Jesus says it again. I lay down my life for the Sheep. And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock and one Shepherd. So so who are the Sheep? Jesus's I lay down my life, for who, for the Sheep, who were the Sheep is sheep. That flock that are the the Jews and the Gentiles. I have others, I have other sheep. And Jesus is laying his life down for them. Why? So that they would be saved. Tony work is valid and applied to those under the Covenant. and I want to jump back to the old Covenant again, just as demonstrate that this is, this is working all three here, Leviticus 16, Dave atonement. Verses 20 through 22.
when is made in the end of atoning for the holy place, in the tent of meeting in the altar, he shall present the live goats An errand. So they both hands on the head of the live go and confess over at all the iniquities of the people of Israel. Okay, laying hands on this, go to be escaped. You always laying his hands on his confessing over all the iniquities of all the people of the world. I wait, your Bible doesn't say that. The people of Israel. Oh excuse me. All the people this really is confessing over this. Go to the iniquities of the people of Israel in all their transgressions. All their sins are being laid upon this a live goat. And you should put them on the head of the goat and what and send it away Into the Wilderness by the hand of a man who is in Readiness the goat show. Bear all their iniquities on itself to a remote area and you should want to go go free in the wilderness.
You see the picture there?
The sins of the people are laid upon the goat. And the sins are taken away. They're gone. Those sins are no more among them, they've been dealt with. They've been paid for by the blood and then they've been taken away as far as the East is from the West. Let me ask you a question. Would Jesus pay a price? And not receive what he paid for. Think about that. Can you imagine Jesus Christ dying on the cross?
To save people. To save his sheep. And then not getting what he paid for.
Or. Can you imagine God? Pouring out his Justice and his wrath upon people who sent it and take it away. Their sins are gone. Their sins are no more upon them, they've been taken away. We got quite as wrath upon them. Would that be just
Now. We were dead, we were unable to come to Christ. But Jesus Paid for our sins.
He placed in us a new heart. In which because of that, we were convicted. Of our sins. We repent of our sins. We didn't want to live in or send any more we can fax them to God. Recognize that we were sinners.
And believed. Believe that Jesus Christ paid for our sins. Knowing that is a result of that. This inheritance is ours.
He didn't just make it possible. He brought it about for us this promised inheritance God, once again has been faithful. He has delivered it to us. This inheritance something that's completely undeserved. Who does this inheritance come from? That comes from the one who owns all things? An inheritance that is greater than anything you can imagine. In this world because it comes from God.
And its eternal.
and inheritance in this world often times is quickly, spent
Nothing Eternal comes from its but not this one. This one's eternal. It can never be lost. Never taken never runs out.
This eternal inheritance is life forever. And the presents. Have God and is perfect Kingdom with perfect bodies. Forever and ever.
And so we thank God. we thank him because we know that these bodies fail, we know that Life as we know, it will end that. We know that's this. Fallen Earth itself is limited, but we have something more We something lasting. We have something to Rejoice about. It's only think about the work of Christ. That he applied it to our lives. When we would have no desire for it, when we could not earn it, we worship god with our lives. We worship Him daily that we wake up every morning thinking about how thankful we are. That we have an eternal inheritance in Christ Jesus. And we worship him, whatever we're doing. As we do, it were doing it to the glory of God, because we're thankful for what he has done for us. And so, we serve him out of that, that, that we want to do everything in life for God. Recognizing this great work that he has done this incredible Grace, that is given to us.
But nothing that we do is we share this message about This is a glorious message. I should go out to the world. And so we share this message of Hope and knowing that God is going to save many from their sins.
Incredible. These teachings are the scripture. Give us hope and confidence in sharing our faith because we know that God is truly rescuing people. If Jesus just died that salvation could be possible for people. Let me tell you something, you could go out and see her face with the entire world and never seen anybody come to face. But we know because God is actually saving people. We know that when we share our faith, it people are going to come to know Christ.
Do we want to be faithful to sheriff 8, to take the gospel to the wasps and then we want to pray that God would bring dead souls to life. Therefore bringing glory to his name. It's interesting. People have a hard time with some of these thoughts but the reality is that we all live this way. Hey, if you are a believer in Christ, I always think of it this way. But I share this before. If you have somebody you love. You love them, deeply, you're concerned about their soul because they have no desire to live for God. They want to live for the world. Are enjoying living in sin even though it's destroying their life. You seen this, you seen people. Why? Why are they doing this? Why don't they seek after God? Why do they turn to him? And your bird and over them. What are you do? You pray for them. How do you pray for them? What do you what do you pray for this person? Are you praying that they would continue to have to live after their own will? What is their will? Their will is to satisfy themselves. Their will is to live for pleasure and to live for this world. That's their will That's what they want. That's the nature that they haven't. So what are your praying for them?
You're probably praying you should be praying. God, change their hearts. They have a heart that is dead. They have a heart that is Stone Cold. They don't want you. God, until God by your grace. Don't leave them where they're at. Fire Grace transplant. Their hearts, give them a heart of Flesh that they would turn to you and seek you and live for you. That's what we pray. And that's what they need. And so we want to be faithful then. To pray. We want to be faithful to go and proclaim the message. We know that God works through the power of His word, if you're the Holy Spirit, that's why there's nothing private. When we have the scripture, we have God's word. That's he's working through it if he was alive.
That's one thing about it. I was talking last week. It Upward Soccer. I was just sharing people with people that think God has spoken to us through his word. And so encouraging, if you if you don't believe that if you, but it will you be open to say God. Do you do you speak to us? I want to know and I told him, go read the Gospel of John read the Gospel of John with that, that attitude God. If you speak to his, I want I want to know it through your word. And so we go, we have the word of God is powerful. We Proclaim it, we watch God. Work in his grace, would give him all the praise and the glory.
And to this morning, if you're here,
if you're here and you're still in your sins, if you're living your life for yourself and you have no concern for the things of God,
you've never repented, you've never confessed your sins to him.
Turned him today. Cry out to the Lord. That he would rescue you.
And then live your life for his glory, not for your own but brain. Got, thank you again for your word.
God, we thank you for your spirit. That works Among Us in a way that we can explain.
Not. If we look at our own lives, we can recognize the way that you showed us your grace, that you Brought people into our life, you convicted of send you.
You did work.
And God because of that, we could not to boast in any way, shape, or form about who we are, what we've done.
God, we confess that we were completely helpless.
We needed you. Until we thank you. That you've rescued us.
God, I pray that the gravity of that reality.
We didn't pack your lies and incredible way.
That this truth would be applied to every area of Our Lives.
And then we would be broken for the Lost.
We would share the message of Hope.
And we would worship you as you continue to bring people in your kingdom.
We pray this in Jesus name, amen.
