Sunrise Service History
Sunrise Service History
In 1773, America’s first sunrise service was held in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. It was organized by the Moravians, a church group with its roots in ancient Bohemia, the present day Czech Republic. They had a profound impact on the famous theologian John Wesley. He was impressed with their commitment to Christ, even unto death. The sunrise service marked the empty tomb that greeted Mary as dawn broke on Easter morning.
Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.
He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.
For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell;
Neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
Point of Emphasis: Jesus was/is our passover Lamb.
Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
Note: Passover did not mean innocent! It meant a sacrifice was made to hide/cover the guilty.
And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the Lord’s passover.
For the Lord will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the Lord will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.
Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.
And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.
