1. Corinthians 15: 11-34 Christ is risen – If he is not our faith is in vain and we are still in our sin. But Christ is risen.
Paul last week wrote of about what was most important, that Christ died and rose as the scriptures has said he would.
Paul will now defend and explain the resurrection and its important. (The key, - the main doctrine, and if Jesus did not rise, there is no point in following a liar, Jesus said many times that he would rise from death, Paul also wrote it last time and it was witnessed in the psalms Christ would not stay death).
It would seem as I mentioned last week that there are people in Corinth that does not believe in the resurrection, as Paul writes in verse 12. (The Jewish Sadducees also said there was no resurrection angles or supernatural)
Motives for not wanting a resurrection, - spiritual better that physical – a way to keep sinning in the body, - some don’t believe as Paul will write in verse 34 Wake up from your drunken state.
Paul stating the obvious conclusion that if there is not resurrection then Christ is not rise from the death. And Paul’s preaching is for nothing and their faith is futile for nothing empty. (14)
Not only that Paul and his team and all that teach that Jesus is risen are false teachers and witness about God, if the witness that God raised Christ, but God did not do that if it is true that the death are not raised. Because if death is not raised Christ is not raised.
That means that your faith is nothing and you are still in your sins. – (Also, today, and still for all that are not in Jesus Christ).
Not only that: all the death in Christ, that set their hope in Jesus is perished for all time. No hope for them.
19 We (Paul and the Corinthians) are to be pitied most of all people if we set our hope in Christ – because that would mean nothing if he is death.
The turn. 20; The good news of Sunday the tomb is empty Jesus is risen. And Paul adds:” In fact Christ has been risen form the death, as the first one, - (that points to our resurrection).
Paul explains the whole story of the Bible: that all men died in Adam when sin came, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. (Jesus the true man – the only one that lived the life for God with no sin, died for sin, rose to give us his righteousness).
Jesus resurrection shows that Jesus was right, he did not lie, he did rise from death,
Jesus died for sin, (cleansing in his blood)
Jesus rose to give us his righteousness, (giving us his life and work that he did for God, now we can stand before God in Christ work).
Jesus’ resurrection – shows we will rise again. 23 Each one hi hi won order, Christ was the first fruit, - and that when Jesus comes again those who belong to Christ will rise.
Then the end, Jesus gives the kingdom to God the Father, after destroying ever authority and power, - til all enemies are under his feet, 26 the last enemy is death.
27 when God has put everything under Jesus, then Jesus put him self under God, that God may be al in all.
Father, Son and Holy Spirt, why be baptized in Jesus name if he is death, and not resurrected? Paul breaks out in protest, why would I live my life as I do if there is no resurrection? At danger every hour, - I die every day, - (cross up and die). My life would give no meaning if there is no resurrection, I would not fight beast, - as the OT say I would just eat and drink and die tomorrow.
Don’t be deceived, - if you hang out with bad company, they might lead you astray – if you keep listening to people that say Jesus did not rise. – Paul pressing even more calling them to wake up from their drunken understanding, sober up, and stop sinning! Or using that there is not resurrection to sin – and even more some of you don’t know God, - and that is to your shame true instead to God and get to know Jesus Christ. – Paul has gets up and gives a strong warring/even a call to repent; pointing to what is shameful in them. many things but here he does. Likely because the resurrection and is of most important.
Teaching that Jesus did not rise from death, - is different that their other sins, - this one takes down everything Jesus said and did. – He would just be a man that lied.
Therefore, Paul is very sharp in his correction, asking them to turn form their false view, to embrace the good news about Jesus, yes, his life, his death and his resurrection. – And he is coming back to rule and reign – giving back the kingdom of God to God when God has put all enemies under Jesus’ feet including death.
What is the evidence? Last week Paul named the people that saw Jesus, Cephas, then 12, more than 500 at one time, to James, then to Paul on the road to Damaskus. The Gospels the woman, Luke the ones walking on the road to Emaus.
The disciples went from hiding to after the Holy Spirt came to be bold and witnesses, that endured persecution and some death for the belief in Jesus as the Christ and that he is the resurrection and the life.
In other words, the empty tomb on Sunday the witness that saw Jesus risen from death, confirm what Jesus said about God and about himself, - and as Paul wrote that it was according to the scriptures. This is the good news, that because we died in Adam, God knowing this shows that in himself what God is that God came and died for our sin, that we might become the righteousness of God, in Jesus Christ.
Cleansed, forgive, reconciled to God, adopted, made right with God, - this along with our resurrection is confirmed in Jesus rising from death, - showing that He is the Christ, the messiah, the everlasting God, prince of peace, and of his rule there will be no end?
But what then about the world now? Wars, pain, suffering, - yes, that was why Jesus came to live, die, rise to bring it all to himself, - but there is still time to repent and come to God and be forgiven before the end comes, when death, will be no more. When Jesus Comes back. That will be in 2 Sundays verse 50 - and on.
