Heart Disease it’s a killer
Heart Disease it’s a killer
One in every 3 deaths in US is caused by heart disease according to American Heart Association in 2013, that and strokes are #1 and #2 worldwide as of 2016.
(Slide) There is a cure for spiritual heart disease, for heart trouble.
- The heart, the central part of our being in which our blood flows and we have life is where our spiritual life dwells too and it can be deceitful and we need to take care of heart trouble when it comes
“The heart is more deceitful than all else
And is desperately sick;
Who can understand it?
I. (Slide) The Commandment (Slide)
Watch over your heart with all diligence,
For from it flow the springs of life.
A. (Slide) The object “the heart” - term heart used 90 times in Proverbs alone. (Slide) Heart defined as: (n) the central or innermost part of something.
Defined
B. (Slide) The action: Watch over (keep) with all diligence - This is to guard like in basketball to keep something out, keep ball from basket, here we need to keep things out of our heart so it is not troubled. We need to preserve our heart by watching what we allow in. (On Slide)
And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
“Be on guard, so that your hearts will not be weighted down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that day will not come on you suddenly like a trap;
“Be on guard, so that your hearts will not be weighted down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that day will not come on you suddenly like a trap;
P
(then (Slide) - You need to be on guard for your heart for when you do then God’s peace will guard you, your heart and your mind.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
C. (Slide) Intensity (The How To) - We are to do it with “All” diligence (n) - careful and persistent work or effort. (Slide) - a great example why we need diligence in protecting our heart, so as to realize the full assurance.
And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope until the end,
(Slide) We need to make guarding our heart a priority. - Many things in this life we have to prioritize, things we need to watch over, but the heart has eternal value.
II. (Slide) The Reason - (Slide) It is likened to a fountain - out of it all life’s issues flow. The heart determines the course of your life. From the good things (slide) Lk6:45 and and the bad (Slide) Jer2:13
“The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.
“For My people have committed two evils:
They have forsaken Me,
The fountain of living waters,
To hew for themselves cisterns,
Broken cisterns
That can hold no water.
(On Slide) Our character, our morals, our scruples all come from the outpouring (flow) of the heart.
From the go
“The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.
(On Slide) The heart makes determinations - the condition of the heart determines the outflow of the fountain.
Our final destination, our course is determined by the state of our heart. We need to be diligent in what we allow in and we need to guard to keep things out.
The heart has flow
III. (Slide) The Method - Application section
A. (On Slide) By Controlled Speech (v.24) - Don’t have a perverse mouth (On Slide)
A worthless person, a wicked man,
Is the one who walks with a perverse mouth,
Don’t deceive yourself (On Slide)
If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless.
From the heart the mouth speaks and can create problems (on Slide)
So also the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things.
See how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire!
And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity; the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell.
B. (On Slide) Controlled Motive - Knowledge - things to remember
(Slide) No immoral person will enter the kingdom (Eph5:3-5)
(Slide) We are to consider ourselves dead to immorality (Col3:5)
(Slide) We are to abstain from immoral behavior (1The4:3)
( On Slide) Application:
(Slide) Fix your eyes on the goal
(Slide) We need to get the right heart
(Slide) We need to have the right focus
C. (On Slide) Controlled Conduct- lets’ look again at (vv.26-27) (On Slide)
Watch the path of your feet
And all your ways will be established.
Do not turn to the right nor to the left;
Turn your foot from evil.
(On Slide) Watch your path - know the things you should do, do those things
(Slide) Let your ways be established - be rooted, grounded in the Word, let your ways be set
(Slide) Don’t turn to right or left - stay the course, the narrow road that Christ goes before you
(Slide) Turn from evil - follow Christ turning from the world and evil
Conclusion - God is the searcher of the heart so be diligent in protecting your heart
