Two thousand years ago, in the Middle East, an event occurred that permanently changed the world. Because of that event, history was split. Every time you write a date on your letters, your cheques or any document, you’re using the resurrection of Jesus Christ as the reckoning date.
What is the significance of Easter?
It is highly important because it proves that Jesus is who He said He is. He was God in the form of flesh who came to seek and save the lost.
There were three (3) dramatic series of events on that Easter Weekend.

Jesus actually went through six trials. In that one night, he was brought before Annas, Caiaphas (the high priest), the Sanhedrin (the religious Supreme Court), Pilate (the governor of Jerusalem), Herod (the governor of Galilee), and then back to Pilate. At the end of those six trials, what did they find to accuse him of? Nothing. He had done nothing wrong.

They want Him dead for the sole reason of not accepting Him to be the Son of God as He rightfully claimed.
To everyone whom Jesus is presented already made some kind of decision as to who He was.
They either believe that He’s a liar or a lunatic, or they believed that He is the Lord.

Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand. After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities. Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

After a night of beatings and mocking. After being spat on, slapped, vilified & struck repeatedly, they crowned Him with thorns. Early the next morning, they made Him carry His cross to a hill outside of Jerusalem called “Golgotha”. It was seamlessly unending agony and pain while they drag Him with whip and kick. It was 9 in the morning when they crucified Him. Above His head they placed a notice that read: “The King of the Jews”. Crucifixion perhaps is the most torturous & brutal way of death ever devised by men. His arms was spread apart, while His hands was stretched out wide against the cross and nailed through the bones in each of His wrist. Before nailing His feet to the cross, they bent His knees a little to give Him room to slide up and down as He grasp for His every stroke of breath. Death on the cross is like death by suffocation. You can breath in, but it is super difficult to breath out. After 6 long hours of excruciating pain, Jesus said, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?”, ( which means, My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?) and then He breathed His last. Normally, they would break his legs, but since Jesus is dead, they opted not to, but to make sure, they stuck a spear in His side and water gushed out instead of blood, which, doctors say, only happens if the heart rips. You can call it what you want, but Jesus died of a broken heart.
Why Jesus have to die?
Because He alone was able to pay for our sins. We deserved punishment, but Jesus paid he penalty

None of the OT or NT miracles are true resurrections. Those raised resumed life as before, their bodies unchanged. Resurrection for Jesus Christ and therefore for his people means a changed body and permanent life in glory. This is the “better resurrection”.

After Jesus died, they took His body and laid it in a tomb and a giant stone was set in front of the cave. The religious leaders, worried that the body of Jesus will be stolen, asked for Roman guards to be posted in front of the tomb. They don’t want Him out of there, but of course He did get out and appeared to many people.

Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.
What does this means to us today?
In one sense, Jesus is still on trial today. He’s on trial in the hearts of those who have not yet acknowledged Him as the Son of God. Savior of the World.
If you managed to follow our 5-day reading plan over the course of our recent 5-day Prayer & Fasting, you will see that people continue to seek for proof that everything that was told about Jesus was actually true.
- Back in 1961, archeologists led by Dr. Antonio Frova found evidences to support the claim of the Bible that there was really a “Pontius Pilate” who lived, governed and tried Jesus. They found from what they believed to be a “Roman Theater” a limestone block with his name in-scripted on its face.
- In December of 1990, a new park was being built in Jerusalem when construction workers stumbled into an ossuary, in other words “bone box”. Archeologist Zvi Greenhut investigated the box and found ornate design on the outer side of the box with the name “Caiaphas”, the high priest during Jesus’ time.
- And yet in 1956-1957, another discovery was made when they found the gate of the cave of Gethsemane. The place believed to be where Jesus prayed before He was arrested.
- In 1968, remains of a young man believed to be in his twenties was found in a tomb inside a bone box. They claimed that he was crucified because, amazingly, a 5-inch nail was still attached to his heel.
In one sense, Jesus is still on trial today. He’s on trial in the hearts of those who have not yet acknowledged Him as the Son of God. Savior of the World.
Easter boils down to two things:
Is Jesus who says who He is? Is He God? Is He lunatic or a liar?
If He is who He says He is, when are you going to start following what He says do to your life?
What is your verdict?

The question is not “how much more evidence you need to see or hear about” before you finally believe. The question is, “how much time do you have left in your life to believe?”
“Faith is believing in the midst of the clouds of uncertainty.”
