We Worship Because God is Holy

Bible Passage: Psalm 8:3–4, Psalm 24:1–3, Psalm 89:5–6, 1 Peter 1:13–16

Summary: These passages reflect on the holiness of God and our response to His grandeur, emphasizing His creation, authority, and the call for us to be holy as He is holy.
Application: Understanding God's holiness helps teens navigate their identity and decisions. By recognizing His greatness, they can find purpose in worship and strive to reflect His character in their daily lives, particularly in a world filled with distractions.
Teaching: This sermon will teach that true worship stems from recognizing God's holiness. It encourages teens to see themselves as part of His creation and challenges them to live holy lives in response to His grace.
How this passage could point to Christ: Throughout Scripture, God's holiness is ultimately revealed in the person of Jesus Christ, who is the perfect representation of God's character. His life, death, and resurrection invite us into a relationship with the Holy God, making holiness accessible through Him.
Big Idea: We worship in response to God's holiness, which calls us to live set apart lives for His glory.
Recommended Study: As you prepare your sermon, consider exploring the nature of holiness in the Old Testament and its implications in the New Testament with particular focus on Peter’s exhortation to holiness. Logos can provide valuable resources for examining the Hebrew and Greek terms for holiness, helping you unpack the depth of these concepts. Additionally, you might want to delve into the historical context of the psalms to enhance understanding of worship in ancient Israel.
Welcome to Wk. 1 of our new series, Wonder. Where we are looking through the Psalms and the New Testament at Worship, What it is, and Why we should Worship God.
What is worship? (Double Rainbow Video)

Worship is our natural, yet intentional, response towards something that we admire.

Psalm 8:3–9
This series comes at such an inspiring time as we are receiving the clearest images of our world and space, as mankind as ever seen. (Images from Space)
I hope that as you look at these images, you are compelled to simply be in awe, in awe of the beauty of what God has created. Even and yet, in the middle of this creation stands you and me. And for some reason, we have been set apart from the rest. This fact that you and I are special creatures inside of Gods grander creation is something that ought to move us to worship. So how do we do that?

2. God Owns the Earth

Psalm 24:1–6
We’ve got to recognize that God alone is the creator and sustainer of all things, and that while we are important and valuable, on our own, we do not measure up to his holiness, and we cannot, without His help. We need to recognize both God’s position and our position in the cosmos, and seek him daily.

3. Join the Cosmic Chorus

Psalm 89:5–18
How can we search for Him today?
We can join with all of creation in worshiping our Creator for His Holiness.
We Worship God because He is Holy.

4. We are Set Apart

But, the revelation of God’s Holiness should not end with our worship.
1 Peter 1:13–16
Our worship of a Holy God should then compel us to live Holy Lives.
Are you worshipping God on a daily basis?
Are you striving to be Holy because He is Holy?
