The Mary Celeste (The Classic Mystery)

In 1872, the Mary Celeste was found drifting in the Atlantic. The ship was in perfect condition; the sails were set, and there was plenty of food and water. However, the lifeboat was missing, and the crew was never seen again.
A ship can look perfectly fine from a distance, but if the "pilot" (our attention to the Word) is missing, the ship is already lost.

Brothers and Sisters, you can have your sails up, you can look 'seaworthy' today, but if you have neglected to stay the course , you are just a ghost ship waiting for the destruction Brothers and Sisters, on the seas of this World dont let your ship drift off course.

1. The Warning

Hebrews 2:1 “1 For this reason, we must pay attention all the more to what we have heard, so that we will not drift away.”
The danger of drifting is that it is quiet and effortless. A ship doesn't need a motor to drift; it just needs to do nothing. Pay Attention This isn't just hearing; it’s prosechein, which means to "moor a ship." It implies active engagement. We don't drift toward holiness; we only drift away from it.
Drift Away The Cause of Drifting: Usually, it isn't a violent storm that moves us, but the slow, steady current of "the cares of this world."

The MV Joyita

In 1955, this merchant vessel was found in the South Pacific, 600 miles off course. It was leaning heavily, partially flooded, and completely empty. Investigations found that a pipe had begun to leak slowly. Because the crew failed to address the small leak and eventually panicked, they abandoned a ship that—ironically—was actually unsinkable.
Drifting doesn't happen because of a massive explosion; it happens because of a "slow leak" of neglect.
We don't usually jump overboard into sin all at once. We drift because of small leaks—a missed prayer here, a neglected scripture there—until we find ourselves miles away from where God intended us to be. 2 Timothy 4:10 “10 because Demas has deserted me, since he loved this present world, and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.”
2 Timothy 2:17–18 “17 and their teaching will spread like gangrene. Hymenaeus and Philetus are among them. 18 They have departed from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and are ruining the faith of some.”

2. The Word

Hebrews 2:2–3 “2 For if the message spoken through angels was legally binding and every transgression and disobedience received a just punishment, 3 how will we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? This salvation had its beginning when it was spoken of by the Lord,
Lesser to the Greater
The Message Spoken Through Angels The Lesser (Angels): In Jewish tradition, the Mosaic Law was delivered via angels (see Acts 7:53). If that Law—the Old Covenant—was "binding" and carried strict penalties, how much more serious is the New Covenant?

Binding

Transgression - Doing what is forbidden
Disobedience - The Omission of what is required.

Just Punishment-Wages paid back

ITs the only way to avoid the debt that we owe!!
Neglect Such a Great Salvation Neglect: Note that the text doesn’t say "if we reject," but "if we neglect." You don't have to hate the Gospel to lose its benefits; you just have to ignore it. Neglect the town of Donora. Numbers 15:30–31 “30 “But the person who acts defiantly, whether native or resident alien, blasphemes the Lord. That person is to be cut off from his people. 31 He will certainly be cut off, because he has despised the Lord’s word and broken his command; his guilt remains on him.”” Deuteronomy 17:2 “2 “If a man or woman among you in one of your towns that the Lord your God will give you is discovered doing evil in the sight of the Lord your God and violating his covenant”
Deuteronomy 17:5 “5 you are to bring out to your city gates that man or woman who has done this evil thing and stone them to death.”
Deuteronomy 17:12 “12 The person who acts arrogantly, refusing to listen either to the priest who stands there serving the Lord your God or to the judge, must die. You must purge the evil from Israel.”
Deuteronomy 27:26 “26 ‘Anyone who does not put the words of this law into practice is cursed.’ And all the people will say, ‘Amen!’”
Here is a list of biblical accounts where God’s judgment was immediate, physical, and "wild," as you described. These perfectly illustrate the "just punishment" for "transgression and disobedience" mentioned in Hebrews 2:2.

The Rebellion of Korah (Numbers 16)

The Sin: Challenging the divine authority of Moses and Aaron.
The Punishment: The earth split open and swallowed the rebels, their families, and their possessions alive. Immediately after, fire from heaven consumed 250 other leaders.

Nadab and Abihu (Leviticus 10)

The Sin: Offering "unauthorized" or "strange" fire in the Tabernacle—worshiping God in a way He did not command.
The Punishment: Fire came out from the presence of the Lord and incinerated them on the spot.

Uzzah (2 Samuel 6)

The Sin: Touching the Ark of the Covenant to steady it when the oxen stumbled (disobeying the command that only Levites could carry it, and only by poles).
The Punishment: God struck him down dead beside the Ark instantly.

Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5)

The Sin: Lying to the Holy Spirit about the price of land they sold; pretending to give everything while keeping a portion.
The Punishment: Both dropped dead at the feet of the Apostles, one after the other, three hours apart.

Herod Agrippa (Acts 12)

The Sin: Accepting worship from people who called him a god and failing to give glory to the Lord.
The Punishment: An angel of the Lord struck him down; he was eaten by worms and died.

The Youths of Bethel (2 Kings 2)

The Sin: Mocking the prophet Elisha and, by extension, God’s authority.
The Punishment: Two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the young men.

Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19)

The Sin: Extreme wickedness and sexual perversion.
The Punishment: Sulfur and fire rained down from heaven, completely wiping the cities off the map.

Lot’s Wife (Genesis 19)

The Sin: Disobeying the specific angelic command not to look back at the destruction.
The Punishment: She was turned into a pillar of salt.

King Uzziah (2 Chronicles 26)

The Sin: Pride; he entered the Temple to burn incense, a task reserved only for priests.
The Punishment: Leprosy broke out on his forehead immediately while he was standing in the Temple, and he remained a leper until he died.
1 Timothy 1:18–20 “18 Timothy, my son, I am giving you this instruction in keeping with the prophecies previously made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the good fight, 19 having faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and have shipwrecked their faith. 20 Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have delivered to Satan, so that they may be taught not to blaspheme.” 2 Peter 3:17 “17 Therefore, dear friends, since you know this in advance, be on your guard, so that you are not led away by the error of lawless people and fall from your own stable position.”

3. The Witness

Hebrews 2:3–4 “3 This salvation had its beginning when it was spoken of by the Lord, and it was confirmed to us by those who heard him. 4 At the same time, God also testified by signs and wonders, various miracles, and distributions of gifts from the Holy Spirit according to his will.”
The Source: It was spoken by the Lord Himself (not just messengers).
Acts 2:22 “22 “Fellow Israelites, listen to these words: This Jesus of Nazareth was a man attested to you by God with miracles, wonders, and signs that God did among you through him, just as you yourselves know.”
The Transmission: It was confirmed by eyewitnesses (those who heard Him). This tethers the faith to historical reality, not just feelings.
Luke 1:2 “2 just as the original eyewitnesses and servants of the word handed them down to us.”
The Validation: God "testified" through the supernatural. Mark 16:20 “20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word by the accompanying signs.]” This is spoke in the past tens . No longer happenign.
Signs: Point to a deeper meaning.
Wonders: Cause holy awe.
