V 36

While they were telling these things. Who was telling who these things?

This was the two that came from back from Emmaus. They were telling the rest of the disciples that they had saw Jesus verses 33 through 35

Then Jesus stood in their midst. Jesus did not come through the door. They didn’t see him walking in anywhere he was just there.

Jesus now has his glorified body. The body that we will have at the Resurrection.

Let’s look at this Body that we will have

Philippians 3:20–21 LSB

For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by His working through which He is able to even subject all things to Himself.

We today have a citizenship in this country and those who come here without the proper paperwork is an illegal citizen

We are also a citizen of heaven. We only see this right now by faith.

We are eagerly awaiting our groom to come and take us home to be married to him

But that can’t happen with the bodies that we have right now

In fact, some people are already dead, and their bodies are have decayed in the grave

So we need new bodies, and we’re gonna look at the body of Jesus as we look at the body that we will actually have

Let’s look again at verse 21 of Philippians that we just looked at it on the screen

Our bodies need to be conformed and they need to be changed to be metamorphosis. We need to go into a cocoon and some of us will go into the To the Cocoon of the grave

1 John 3:2 LSB

Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not been manifested as yet what we will be. We know that when He is manifested, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.

The disciples saw Jesus in His new body

Jesus Is the first fruits of the resurrection so if Jesus resurrected with a new glorified body, then we also will

The disciples saw Jesus, but they probably didn’t understand the full scope and we don’t understand the full scope of what this new glorified body will be

We won’t see that until we get this new glorified body, and we will see Jesus and we shall know him because we shall see him as he is not the way that we think of this body right now

V 37-39

Jesus wants them to touch him to feel that he has bones and skin and muscle

Jesus wants them to see him eat as we will see in a couple of verses

Jesus wants them to look at his hands and his feet to see the marks of the nails

So what does this tell us about our new bodies?

We will have bodies that are going to be recognizable. We’re gonna have bodies with muscle and skin and bone

He Jesus also has the Scott the marks in his hands from his nails

We also will have marks on our body from trauma that we have experienced

So our bodies will be the same in many ways and as we see people in heaven, we will know them

But spiritually our bodies will be very different

Our bodies today cannot be in the presence of God because we have a sin nature still

So that nature has to be taken away we need to have a spiritual body that can be in the presence of the Almighty

This body that we have right now is a body for a three dimensional universe but scientists tell us there’s at least 10 dimensions to creation

So our bodies need to be formed to be a part of that 10 dimensional creation

They still didn’t believe it could be true

They recognized Jesus, but how could this be Jesus when we saw him die and buried

They were overjoyed that it was Jesus, but they just couldn’t believe that it was Jesus

So now Jesus is going to tell them about the prophets and about The psalms and how they were written that Christ would suffer and rise again, the third day and how all of these prophecies had to be fulfilled

Then he opened up their minds to understand the scriptures

This is very important. It’s important for us also to be able to understand the scriptures.

We need the Holy Spirit to teach us to open up our minds this

This opening up of the minds is the same thing as what happened to the two on the road to Emmaus when their eyes were opened

These scriptures are some of the scriptures that Peter used on his first sermon on the day of Pentecost

The scriptures are scriptures at all. These Jewish people knew, but they did not connect them with what Christ had to go through and the resurrection.

1 Corinthians 2:14 LSB

But a natural man does not accept the depths of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually examined.

Men cannot accept the Bible, unless the Holy Spirit teaches them

The Bible is foolishness to them

These disciples did not think that the Old Testament was foolishness, but they didn’t understand it any better than someone who doesn’t study the scriptures

Their minds had to be opened

1 Cor 2 10-

V 46-47

these are what these men realized in their heart in their minds after Jesus opened them

Verse 47 that Repentance and forgiveness and sins would be proclaimed to all nations

This is the witness that That they were to do

Also, it is the witness that we are to do to proclaim the Lord’s death and resurrection and salvation to all who believe

God has given to us the same duty as he gave to the disciples

to evangelize the people around us

to tell them of the good news of the gospel

to tell them that Jesus died for sins

Jesus needed to suffer the penalty for sin on our behalf

God the Father poured out His wrath that should have been intended for us onto Jesus

that we would have the righteousness given to us by Jesus

then Jesus was buried

that He rose again on the third day showing that the sin penalty is paid for all who put their trust in Him for salvation

we are these witnesses to what Jesus has done
