We left off where the apostles had gotten arrested for the second time and the religious leaders tell them hey didn’t we instruct you to never teach about this name agin . There response was incredible and Peter says “ We must obey God rather than any human authority
So as we move into chapter 6 the church has continued to grow and there were some different traditions between the hellenistic christians and the hebrew christians. Both had believed in Jesus and they come from different backgrounds so their was a bit of opposition between the 2.
So its clear that some of the hellenist had believed that the Hebrew Christian widows received better care.
Verse 2, I want to be clear that the apostles where not saying “ We are to good for this type of work” but what they were really doing was wise in spreading out the responsibilities of the ministry. God has a calling on all of our lives and with in that calling that is servant hood to Christ there different assignments . Some may be called to preach from a pulpit and some may be called to share the Gospel in the oil field.
These deacons where elected to oversee the distribution of money and provisions to the needy among the church.
Now whats siginificant about this chapter is the different types of service to the Kingdom. WE often only Associate ministry with pastoring and preaching but every single one of us is called to serve the Lord and were all called to some form of ministry and we sometimes dont look at the simple and practical things as spiritual but when we look at the life of Jesus he did some practical things that where absolutely spiritual like washing the feet of his disciples.
I find that in the the simple acts of kindness and obedience is when the spirit of God does some major work. A heart gets soften a conversation is started or a relationship is birthed that soon leads to a relationship with Jesus.
