OB Tree Day
4 Corners
Week #1 “Fear to share” Cosmic Brownies
Week #2 “Material Needs” we all need clothes, food etc, but Jesus should be of higher importance
Week #3 “Lean Of God”
This week will will dig into God’s word to see how we can rely on God in all circumstances…
Let’s open God’s word together…
Philippians 4:6–7 “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
What does it mean to be anxious?
Pick 2-3 students to explain what being anxious means…
Anxious - characterized by extreme uneasiness of mind or brooding fear about some contingency
Similar to last weeks passage Paul is writing a command not a questionable statement “Do Not Be Anxious”
We learned last week that being anxious does not add any hours to our day, and today has enough for itself and we were instructed to not be anxious for tomorrow...
Paul is writing to a group of people who are undergoing persecution which means death for their faith. And still he tells them ‘Do Not Be Anxious About Anything”
What situations in our life allow us to be anxious?
Now I'm not asking what situations “Make Us Anxious” i am asking what situations basked on God’s word allow us to be anxious?
Allow students to respond...
God’s word tells us none. Which leads us to believe that Jesus is not compassionate?
Matthew 15:32 “Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion on the crowd because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. And I am unwilling to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.””
This example of Jesus feeding the 4,000 is one of many where Jesus shows his compassion, so if Jesus is compassionate but also says being anxious serves no purpose and does not add any time to our life’s then what are we to do?
Jesus tells us exactly what to do…
Philippians 4:6 “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
Jesus wants to help in our time of worry, but we have to choose to give it to him..
As we have discussed in the past Jesus gives us a clear path out of things.
Clear path from eternal death - is to trust and follow him
Clear Path Jesus’s love - Responding in love
Clear path out of anxiety - give it to God in prayer
Jesus wants to hear your biggest and smallest worries
Matthew 11:28–30 “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.””
Jesus says come to me but it requires us to go
How do we “Go To God?”
Philippians 4:6 “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
James 5:13–14 “Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.”
We have a direct cell line to God, but we have to pickup the phone.
How different do you think your life might look if in times of trouble, sorrow, or anxiety, instead of getting worries you gave it to God?
