As we return to Paul’s letter to Philemon, we find him opening with words of gratitude and encouragement. While these words help strengthen their relationship, Paul’s deeper purpose is to appeal to Philemon’s character. By affirming his love and faithfulness, Paul gently reminds him—and us—of the calling to continually serve Christ with a heart marked by love and devotion.
