Jude 20–21 NKJV
20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Introduction

Faith that survives is not faith that sits still. Jude writes to believers living in a culture of compromise, confusion, and spiritual attack. False teachers were surrounding the church, truth was being challenged, and many were tempted to drift.
Yet Jude does not tell believers to panic. He tells them to persevere.
A resilient faith is not a faith that never faces pressure—it is a faith that grows stronger under pressure.
Big Idea: If we are going to stand in a collapsing culture, we must intentionally strengthen our faith.

1. Build Your Faith

“Building up yourselves on your most holy faith...”

The picture is that of constructing a building. Faith is not something you simply receive and then ignore. It must be developed, strengthened, and reinforced.
A house left unattended eventually weakens. Cracks appear. The roof leaks. The foundation shifts. In the same way, neglected faith becomes vulnerable faith.

Supporting Scripture

Romans 10:17 NKJV
17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Colossians 2:6–7 NKJV
6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

How Do We Build Our Faith?

Through the Word of God
Through obedience in everyday life
Faith grows when we feed it.

Key Thought

You cannot build a strong Christian life on a weak spiritual diet.

Illustration

Many years ago when I worked for a concrete company, we were laying the foundation for a chemical tank. When you looked a the finished product it appeared to be a simple concrete slab, but under the surface was a 4’ deep hole that was filled with woven iron rods. this was no ordinary foundation, it wa designed to withstand any ice, freeze, wind, or storm. The product that was on top of the foundation was to valuable and reactive to risk a weak foundation.

Application

Ask yourself:
What am I feeding my faith?
Am I spending more time listening to the world than listening to God?
What daily habits are strengthening my walk with Christ?
What you feed yourself will be what you become. If you listen to the world, you will be come worldly. ‘
If you listen to negativity, you will become negative.
If you listen to God, you will become Godly.
A resilient faith is built before the storm arrives.

2. Pray in the Spirit

“Praying in the Holy Ghost”

Prayer is more than a ritual; it is the lifeline of resilient faith. Jude is not merely talking about saying words. He is speaking of prayer that is guided, empowered, and directed by the Holy Spirit.
To pray in the Spirit means:
To pray sincerely
To pray according to God’s will
To pray with dependence on God rather than confidence in ourselves
Many believers try to fight spiritual battles with human strength. But resilient faith is not produced by determination alone. It is produced by dependence.

Supporting Scripture

Ephesians 6:18 NKJV
18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—
Romans 8:26 NKJV
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 NKJV
17 pray without ceasing,

A cell phone can be expensive, powerful, and full of potential—but if it is not connected to power, it eventually dies.
Many Christians are spiritually running on 2% battery because they have disconnected from prayer.
Prayer plugs us into the power of God.

Application

Move prayer beyond routine words
Spend time listening as well as speaking
Pray specifically and expectantly
Make prayer your first response, not your last resort
What if the strength of your faith was measured by the consistency of your prayer life?
Faith that is not prayed over will eventually wear down.

3. Guard Yourself with God’s Love“Keep yourselves in the love of God...”

Jude is not saying that God stops loving us. God’s love is constant. The issue is whether we remain close enough to enjoy, experience, and live in that love.
The idea is to stay in the place where God’s love shapes your heart, mind, and decisions.
When we drift from God’s love, we become vulnerable to:
Bitterness
Discouragement
Temptation
Fear

Supporting Scripture

John 15:9–10 NKJV
9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
Romans 8:38–39 NKJV
38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Psalm 91:1 NKJV
1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
1 John 4:16 NKJV
16 And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

A child may wander away from the warmth of a fireplace, but the fire is still burning. The farther away the child gets, the colder he becomes.
God’s love has not moved. We have.

How Do We Keep Ourselves in God’s Love?

Stay close to God through His Word
Refuse bitterness and unforgiveness
Remember God’s faithfulness
Surround yourself with godly influences

Real-Life Illustration

During World War II, many London families sheltered in underground stations during bombing raids. In the darkness and fear, children often stayed calm because they were holding the hand of someone who loved them.
The storm outside had not changed, but the presence of love gave them peace.
You may not be able to control the storm around you, but you can stay close to the God who loves you.

Application

Are you living in fear or in the confidence of God’s love?
Have you allowed hurt, disappointment, or sin to distance you from Him?
What would it look like this week to stay close to the Lord?

Memorable Statement

The safest place in a dangerous world is in the love of God.

4. Look for Christ’s Return

“Looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.”

Resilient faith always lives with hope.
Jude reminds believers that this world is not the end of the story. Jesus is coming again. We do not endure because life is easy—we endure because we know what is ahead.
The Christian life is not just about surviving today; it is about anticipating tomorrow.

Supporting Scripture

Titus 2:13 NKJV
13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
1 Thessalonians 4:16–18 NKJV
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
Matthew 24:42 NKJV
42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.

What Happens When We Lose Sight of Christ’s Return?

We become discouraged
We become distracted
We begin living for temporary things
But when we remember that Jesus is coming:
We endure hardship
We stay faithful
We live with urgency and purpose

Illustration

During a marathon, runners often reach a point where they feel like quitting. But when they see the finish line, they find strength they did not know they had.
Hope gives strength.
The return of Christ is the finish line of the believer.

Application

Are you living as though Jesus could return at any moment?
What would you change if you truly believed His coming was near?
Are you investing in things that will last forever?

Memorable Statement

Those who are looking for Christ’s return can keep going when others give up.

Conclusion

Jude gives us four anchors for resilient faith:
Build your faith
Pray in the Spirit
Guard yourself with God’s love
Look for Christ’s return
The world around us may shake, but we do not have to fall apart.
A resilient faith is not automatic. It is intentional.
When you build your faith, pray in the Spirit, remain in God’s love, and keep your eyes on Christ’s return, you can stand firm no matter what comes.

Closing Challenge

What part of your faith needs strengthening today?
Is your foundation weak?
Has your prayer life faded?
Have you drifted from the love of God?
Have you lost sight of eternity?
