Psalm 27:4-8
Psalm 27:4-8
Thesis: One question to ask, “What/Who am I seeking?” Through David we see what he desires to seek, being in the presence of God. But what God tells David to do is the “why” behind David’s seeking, “Seek My face.” David was seeking God, why?, because God is the One Who is worth seeking…
Introduction
Introduction
We have this idea that God is waiting for us where He has called us to go, and yes that’s true, but what we often forget is that He is walking with us
We’re going to ask one question - Whom shall I seek?
What did David seek…
The Presence Of God (v. 4)
The Presence Of God (v. 4)
We say it awe want to be in God’s presence a lot but what do we mean by it?
God has a lot of character traits… (holy, righteous, just, love, merciful, gracious…)
Too often we think of the goosebumps and not God…
Key words:
Dwell - to remain
“behold the beauty of the LORD” - to delight in the sight of God (Hebrew Lexicon Pre-BDB)
Beauty - delightfulness, pleasantness (BDB)
Meditate - carry out the offering; implies careful consideration and thought of the worship
David’s desire is to intentionally contemplate God through worshipping Him and spending his life in awe/reverence of God…
Application:
What we do always has an aspect of worship to it
When we do what David did - intentionally contemplate God through worshipping Him - then we will serve Him no matter where we are or what we’re doing…
The Protection Of God (v. 5-6)
The Protection Of God (v. 5-6)
God not only has the ability to protect David from his trouble and enemies, but God also lifts David up onto a firm foundation (rock) to keep him stable…
God doesn’t just protect and provide for us, He stabilizes us…
David’s response - worship through song…
Application:
When God does protect us, we praise Him… When God does not protect us, we praise Him…
Life happens…
The Person Of God (v. 7-8)
The Person Of God (v. 7-8)
There is no presence or provision without the person of God
(symbolism of “My face”)
Application:
If we aren’t seeking God then where we are won’t really matter because God won’t be at the center…
