9 Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

INTRODUCTION

Harry Potter VS the Bible
I am often shocked by conversations I have with people who claim to know Jesus but don’t seem to know much about why he came or what he taught.
Did Jesus come just to die? Did Jesus come to make us nice people? Did Jesus come to tell us what bad things we shouldn’t do?
This morning, I want us to pick up where we left off in seeing our story as this door and Jesus as the key. We have tried to answer “Who do you say that I am.” Now, we will look at what Jesus taught about why it matters who he is.

THE DISCIPLES PRAYER

Our Father in heaven: Jesus taught taught that you were made for a deep relationship with God.
Hallowed be your name (may your name be honored): Jesus taught that you were made to live for God’s honor.
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven: Jesus taught that you need to let his kingdom rule your lives.
Give us this day our daily bread: Jesus taught that you need to rely on God’s provision.
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors: Jesus taught that you need to live lives marked by grace and mercy.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: Jesus taught that you have an Enemy that you can’t beat on our own.

THE PERSON WHO UNDERSTOOD

Matthew 8:1–3 ESV
1 When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him. 2 And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” 3 And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
The leper finds his hope in Jesus’ power to cleanse him. He (1) comes to Jesus, (2) submits to Jesus, and (3) finds healing in Jesus.
The only way to live out Jesus’ teaching is to find Jesus’ healing and saving power.
