Purpose Driven: Jesus Versus Peter

And I thank God for brother Brandy. They need him and his family. You need anything compared to a man licensing on today. Amy and God has been truly good. And there's so much that I can sing in there so much that I am going to say. But first things first, the word Amen. Thank you, Lord. Jesus in the Lord has given me the title today. I struggle with this title. Amen, Jesus versus Peter, amen. Jesus versus Peter as we continue, our series of Purpose Driven so far, all I've been since we've been preaching through the book of Martyrs 2026 started and we've been doing a series called Purpose Driven on this Sunday. We're going to spend our time in Mark 6 vs 45 through 56 and y'all bear with me. I'll Tell Stacey that I'm going to try to read all of these because after I read them out on a pie, probably not going to go back to him cuz I have a tendency to want to go line-by-line. But God has given me something else to say today. So I'm going to try to read all the way through it. So, y'all bear with me. I normally don't like to read this this much, but Mark 645 256. And it says, the NLT version, it says, it immediately after this, you just had just fed 5000 immediately after this Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and head across the lake to Best Buy later. What he sent the people home after telling everyone good-bye. He went up into the hills by himself to print like that night. That the set the disciples were in their boat in the middle of the lake in. Jesus was a long only saw that they were in serious trouble, running hard and struggling Against The Wind and The Waves about 3 in the morning. Jesus came to a walking on the war, he intended to do pass them. But when they saw him walking on the water that cried out in Terror, thinking he was a ghost. They were all terrified when they saw him, but Jesus spoke to them at me one. Don't be afraid. He said, take courage, I am here, then he climbed into the boat in the water. GameStop. They were totally amazed for. They still didn't understand the significance of the miracle of the Lowe's. Their hard work, too hard, to take it in their hearts were too hard to take it in. And they ran throughout the whole area carrying sick people on that to wherever they heard, he would wherever he went in villages cities or the countryside, they brought the sick out to the marketplaces, They begged him to let the sick, touch at least friends of his robe and all who touched him were healed. Amen. Amen, Jesus. Versus Peter. How many y'all have ever heard the story of Jesus walking on water and Peter asked to step out of the boat and walk on water to raise your hand? Hallelujah. Jesus versus Peter. Did you know that out of the four gospels? Only three of them talk about Jesus walking on the water, a lot of those three. Only one of them talks about Peter ever stepping out of the boat. Only only Matthew talks about Peter stepping out of the boat, the other than all of them, Mark, Luke and Matthew talk about Jesus walking on water, but only Matthew talks about Peter asking to step out of the boat and often when there's a story about Peter asking to walk on water. We we we we we are amazed by it that you would have enough space even to walk for a little while that while he had to say to ask Jesus to step out of the boat and walk on water. It's okay. If I go through this I want you to understand the only reason why Peter was able to do that was because of Jesus and a lot of times we make a big deal about what we were able to do. And we forget the reason why we're able to do it. We forget the reason why we're able to do it. So we've been preaching Through The Book of Mark and we've seen we seen lepers healed. We seen a soldier's daughter raised from the dead. We've seen a legion of Being Ian be cast out. We've seen the fishing in Long X to be five thousand men, and their families facing Jesus. Calm the winds and the waves. And then when I read that 50 second verse, and they say, they still didn't understand the miracle of the laws. The disciples are still struggling with their fright. They are still struggling with their faith and I hope that, I hope that this is this word, I hope that I am. I hope that you are able to cancel because I'm struggling to put into words. What I feel like the spirit wants me to stay. And I was cramping. I want y'all to understand. I asked, I started right now. You know, my heart to God and I said, Lord, I'm willing to live my life, to share the gospel, and I'm willing to go to the, To My Grave, sharing the gospel. But what, I'm not willing to do when I'm not willing to do, is to let the enemy give me, so wrapped up in my plan. Did I kill myself? Trying to share the gospel? And that's a Judas. Mine said, I may explain to you what I mean by that in a little bit that's a Julius mindset. You getting so wrapped up in doing it your way, you get so wrapped up in trying to walk on water Jesus in that has Peter to Walk On Water. Peter requested to walk on water and if you ever read the story, The reason why he requested to walk on water. He said, even if it's really you, It is really you. Let me come out there with you. Peter was struggling with his face after all that. He still wanted to do something miraculous for him in order to make him believe a little bit more. We do that the God so much. After all we've seen, we still want Jesus and we'll start requesting it. But God if you kill this miraculous thing in my life, do not believe in you. I didn't seen you hear the leopard. Other seen, you cast out demons. I don't see you raising a child from the dead. I don't seen you speak to the winds in a wave and I still don't believe the Lord if I had interest. Really you let me do XYZ take me to the top. Give me a job. Give me a hug, give me about students praying for me. If it's really you didn't show up in my life in this miraculous way.

Do you know even after Jesus let Peter Walk On Water, Peter still denied him three times. God is saying how much is enough for you on today. So I don't hear my life, sharing the gospel and I plan on going to my grave sharing the gospel. But I would never like I don't I don't want to, I don't want to put. I don't want to put trying to share the gospel of trying to do stuff my way. It's not my job. It's not my job to convince you that Jesus is real. My job is a just preach the word. You can't believe whether you want to or not, my job is just to preach the word. I don't have to try to make my appointment, I don't have to try to walk on water to get you to believe, that's what we want. We want preachers in a churches and ministers to walk on water to convince us that God is real. I can't even you seen enough in your life without this early to believe, but we just like the 52nd first. I heart is too hard to understand what he's already done for us so he's looking for something else to happen. We're looking for something else to happen. I think back on how to how I came to the Lord, and I realize that my pastor didn't go out of the way to train me and teach me, right? She just allowed me to be around her, unless you're passing, like, talking to the visit, I'm talking to my house right now, but as your pastor, if you would just allow me to be in your life, you going to learn some lessons if we want people to prove stuff to us. But if you get a lot of people in your space and just take the time to sit there and watch what they doing and what they saying and allow them to teach you in the cycle. You you will start to understand Jesus even more without them having to walk on water to convince you. So I'm not going out of my way to try to train at each, but if you just allow me to be in your space, I believe that God will use me as your pastor. We got to understand that the same methods and the same power in the same Miracles that worked in the Bible way. Back then write that will work today. And y'all one of y'all want to know why weren't you want to know why they still worked in there because people believe

Jesus never, we never see Jesus after the disciples to do miraculous things, we never think. We don't we don't see Jesus say happy. You got to be able to walk on water to serve me. You got to be able to defeat Hell In The Grave to serve me. We don't we don't see him. Thank you. Got to be able to raise people from the dead to serve me. He doesn't ask us to do, miraculous be simply answer to believe and then he says, if you believe you will be able to do these things, it's someone we can't get stuff to move in my life. It's not because like it's not because of the long one is because we don't actually believe Still waiting on him to do something, miraculous on to prove himself to us.

It's on Jesus if I was okay and he say you know I don't have to go out to meet Jesus real to you. I'm going to evangelize and now but what I want do it is I won't advertise Jesus on me every time. You know, why do people advertise cuz they trying to sell you something these churches out here, trying to sell you something they trying to say, they trying to send you this image of a Christian life right now, it looks pretty or make you feel a certain way so that when you leave out of there, you going to say you going to feel like you should be able to declare and decree and get whatever it is that you want without having to suffer. That's what they trying to advertise, but I'm not advertising. That Jesus said he playing in God, that he was despised. That I'm going to be hated for his name, since then, it's going to be testing child, but that he would never leave me in 4 seconds. That's not good advertise. Advertise, your church going to be empty, you have retired. Holiness Church on me and you advertise getting Odyssey. Is your church going to be empty. I'm not advertise. Evangelizing his name up. I want you to understand that he's the sort. He's greater than Peter. Be greater than Moses and Elijah Lee Griffin me. So caught up trying to be like he wanted to walk on water.

Tonight with my little, my people think that we got it all together cuz I'm a minister that life is not hard. That is not a struggle to keep up and it could wake up. Every morning, it in Walking staying out.

We celebrate David, we celebrate Moses, we celebrate these brave men of God that we forget, the only reason that they were able to do what they were able to do with because of the hand of the Lord was upon them. It is always been about Jesus walking on water, not Peter. That's why he is all yours. Only one encounter Peter walking on water and it wasn't a good account. It was because Peter didn't believe it's always been about Jesus walking on the water dogs vs. Fake Jesus, all them struggling, in the middle of them in the middle of the night. And he intend to walk past, you got to understand that Jesus sees you struggling and sometimes he's not going to stop right there and say I see you struggle. If he just going to be in the vicinity watching over you because y'all got to understand this ain't the first time they've been in a boat in the storm. Going to turn right? I shouldn't have to stop this time to convince you that I'm with you.

How to stop ticking beat shoes. But so many times in the first sign of something happening in my life, we want us to stop and convinced us all over again, that he's been We want him to stop and convince us again that he's there. The only reason he stopped was because they saw And then when I saw him, he said don't be afraid. It's me. Don't be afraid. It's me. I got you don't be afraid. I got you. I got you. I guess we're Peter didn't even believe that it was him. Talk, that is us. We get so terrified of the storm that we in Jesus. They don't. He take the time to stop the take the time to send you a word. You take the time to have somebody call you. And say, don't be afraid. I got you and me and you say prove it. Prove it, prove it. Peter was impulsive. It was one of his biggest flaws and because God love Peter. So he would always use Peters weakness. The teacher molest You already do the same thing. He done for us that Peter for not believing, he doesn't fuss that PT. He said, if you want to come out on the water pill, come on out on the ward. I got if that's what it's going to take for you to believe. I got you, come on out on the ward. Give me a call to walk on the water and then a realizes that he's in a place that he was prepared to go. He went out on deep Ward, thank you. He could be like God and he keeps her from me cuz he came in mansion. It's nothing for Jesus to walk on water pump, when God start to allow Peter to do this miraculous thing you should be on Ponce. Peter one prepared to do what God was doing and he begins to get afraid and he began to sink. He takes his eyes off of the reason that he's able to do the impossible and then he begins to think and it's the same way as to why Peter's life Peter is going to be the one that cut the soldiers ear off. This is the same team who said, I believe that you are the Son of God and I believe that you were the Son of God. And then he turns around and deny Christ and say, I don't know, I don't even know who Jesus is and what that tells us is this right here. Just play anything, but when we are actually putting up a section, we forget all that. Jesus has done. It is not going to be until Jesus is crucified. Comes back. Show himself in St. Peter, do you love me? Yes. Lord, you know whether do you love me? Yes. Lord you know I love you Peter. Do you love me? Yes. Lord you know I love you and feed my sheep and for the first time it clicks and Peter's brain after Peter there and ran his mouth at the heat on the walked on water and he's seen all the miracles of Jesus all throughout his life. God has been showing up. And it didn't click the Peter until the real. Jesus the resurrected Jesus Jesus with all power in his hand shows up and convinced them, he needed it three times because he did not agree to her. He wanted to make a point like Tina, you didn't read your mouth and you have been telling people that you will you love me and that you will die for me. And if you all into Jesus, you have ran your mouth. But I want you to see how your words, meant nothing.

I want you to see. And I'm not asking you to be impulsive. How is making sense to somebody. God is not asking you for a lot on today. Asking you to cut the soldiers ear off. Ta answer you to be the biggest baddest thing in the street. I done running your mouth about how much you love Jesus. A p. A w. N Peter. Do you love me?

God is asking you to do, is believe and simply tell somebody else about me. Tell somebody else about me, not being impossible but with your life I believe at that moment that third time that Peter said Lord, you know, I love you. I think that's what Peter made up his mind. I don't have to do all of that to serve the Lord. And when I say I do all that I ain't talkin about run around. So I don't want y'all to think it's you you how old I don't have to do nothing together. Just saying, I don't got to do nothing. I need y'all to understand that every one of these disciples were killed because they love the Lord. When I spent y'all understand they kill them. They laid down their life. That's how much they love the Lord. When we react to things that they were doing with not a part of a show, they were not advertising Jesus. The things that they were doing, didn't beat them. Locked in jail, getting stoned Miracles and wonders that they were doing. That was not because they were trying to build a mega church. That was not because they were trying to start a podcast.

Play feedback because they love the Lord. Put all the extra stuff that didn't mean nothing to them, whether they got famous or not, I meant nothing to you. It's too many people out here trying to be Christians, in order to get Frankie big money y'all. I want to be famous. We get caught up saying, Jesus. Let me walk on the water too, but what's the point you spanking in the boat? You say friend in the phone? Just text me that he's going to get you to the store and he got. You think I threw the first he was going to get them through this one. If you want to prove that you need more proof, Jesus intended to go before them and to ensure that they made it safely to the other side. But we spend our time trying to Bear burdens that don't belong to us. We take our eyes off of Jesus and then we began to sink When we read The Narrative of Matthew, when we think that is so cool. That Peter decided to step out of this boat. I want to tell you to stay hotel in the boat, stay in the boat, staying in the believe in what he's already done. Don't be looking for a new thing. Don't be looking cuz I don't do it because we do that. We think we we think we need more power than that. Like I got to do something else. Now, I need you to do something different than when you first met me. Like when he first step to say enough, Do something different. No, just because this beat be consistent and live out of the Christian Life. When you pick your own apples.

He wasn't prepared to be out there where he would, at least not yet. You don't learn his lesson until he denies Christ, but cry still kept his word. He still died for Peter, he's still defeated death, he still return and let you know that I'm here and I have defeated these things. You do, you tell Peter to feed my mice, my Jeep, so goddamn thing and stop thinking that you're silly works. Are fruits of your sight. How many yards think that you know the more I do mean the more than God don't love me or the more I do that mean bad stuff ain't going to happen to me. Crazy crab. I would say the more you live for the Lord the most of them happened to you. The preachers ain't going to tell you then though cuz that ain't good advertisement. The more you live for the Lord, the more you gone stuff. Are people going to think you crazy? Because your life not going to use. You stop being afraid every time, the storm coming and God stop having to prove stuff to you. So, your window fell apart anymore because you understand that Grandma had a relationship with the Lord and when your money is funny, you lose your mom because I've been brought before and God took care of me.

Kill Brian, totally turns around when you get Jesus in your life, for real. You're probably totally turns around you, if you start to realize that it's not going to save you. I'm not doing this because a lot of us we'd be doing something, you want to be blessed. Are we doing something? Cuz we scared, like I don't want Jesus to spank me. So I'm going to do XYZ Peter Pan painting like that. Because if he was when you was in your city and he would have been took you out, so why when you get on the safe side you think that if you do XYZ that God is transactional. If I do believe, he going to give me these investment in this. Did this trial of this test that I'm going through is because I must have did something wrong. Not Petty like that. God is not out to get you but it's like at 52nd first. There are things that you can bet. He wants you to understand about the miracle that he's performing in allowing you to see the reason that he multiplied. The laws was for a reason. He was trying to teach them a lesson that I wasn't trying to show off what it look like. God trying to show off. Let me prove a point that I'm beat God. He's not trying to show off, he's trying to teach a lesson. So when you go through a test or trial of God does something miraculous, it's not cuz you did Super is super righteous is super powerful. He's trying to prove a lesson or teach you something about who he is it was never about Peter walking on the water. It was about I can give you the ability to walk on water. If you believe It was never about the disciples Healing, The Sick, right? It was about them doing it in whose name Jesus is named right? Why because God doesn't want people Believing on us. I want to have a leaving, like, that's a man of God, right? Then that's a powerful Caster right there. That's not what God is.

He wants him to say he wants Sean's play. I want to know more about the guy that he's talking about if God can do that for that, man, but he can do it for me.

This is the wrong question instead of asking God to do something or to prove who he is sane or what and I'm not understanding cuz I know how long is a 2:28 p.m. and you can wait all things work out for the good of them that love the Lord and Lord I know that I love you. So whatever it is you want this pain to turn out for my good even though it's hurting me Yes, yes, yes, even though it's inconvenient, it's got to be something. Cuz I know that I love you, it's got to be something and you trying to get me to understand, don't let my heart. Be too hard to hear what you trying to say. Instead of having all the answers and thanking the holy spirit is telling you to walk on water to prove a point. The point already been proven that God can do whatever he want to do. That's the point. Jesus can do whatever if you want to walk on water.

If you want to make those birds and pregnant, if you want to allow fire to come from having one allow Jonah get swallowed, by the whale God, can do whatever he want to do. That's the point, that's what he wanted. The old, the Old Testament prophets to believe that's when he wanted his disciples to believe, that's what he wants you to believe right. Now I can do whatever I want to do. And if you believe in me, the same power is available to you. What else does God have to show you before you believe? I told y'all I have had my sins. If you do it moments, What do you mean past as you do a moment, we preach when we we we did preacher to live book and we read how Jesus at a certain point that he'd done all these things. He just be sitting at disciples not to buy to be told of, all right? I ain't going with you. How you go to buy to you do it, do the stuff you've been seeing me do as Christians at a certain point. You have to mature in order to go out and exercise your faith in a bullet. In the things. You say that you were leaving, you go out there and do it and y'all, I have had my season of you. Do a moment. I have married. My married, you raise your hand. I married people in this church. If I marry, if I perform of jovial. I marry people that mean I counsel people. I marry people. I've been with people. I disciple people, I fed people. I've traveled over driving back and forth to American to card. No, money. All these things I've given money. when I've been had, Altona freestyle. Pray. Fastest. I'm open my home. Not forgiving people that have stabbed me in the bed. I poured I'm in down and I'm still not doing all that. Don't listen, only those, you doing moment have taught me. I was never doing it by myself. The only reason I was able to do it. Was because the Lord, because of the Lord. All of those things, I found that it was me walking on the water. Jesus said it was never about you. It was never about you friend with MB. You fast, Never Never. By the only reason. He was equipped expand as long as a pastor and a minister as a man as a husband and a father as anything or principal only reason you've been able to expand its loan and sometimes are you going through life? And so topsy-turvy, it feels like it's impossible. Like you like God is asking you to walk on water you going to wipe it all the stuff in you it seems impossible. Seems like an impossible task, like God is asking you to walk on water. I didn't ask you to walk on water, spaniel behind in the bowl. Emily. So many steps in the word. Tampa Bay in may sing. Impossible with man but with God nothing, you don't say something. It says nothing. Is impossible. I don't know all of those things.

I don't know, none of those things and I'm not done, but after all the seasons of tests and trials, I don't feel obligated to prove anything anymore than anybody ain't got the food. Y'all that I love the Lord. The worst a diet, you going to know them. How, you know, if somebody for Real by their fruit? Baby bear. I have nothing else to prove.

Is a winning season and the Lord is been. I'm almost done eating. I got like two more line in this season as the Lord tries to slow me down as a little trying to slow me down and it's like I'm realizing like all I got to do is trust the Lord. All I got to do is trust the spirit. I don't have to be running around all over here thinking especially to the folks in the couch if y'all don't know that I love you by now. Did you invite that song? Say you will never never? Never never know me. I don't know who sang if you don't know me by now.

But we do like, how we treat people is how we treat. God, oh he didn't show up for me.

I texted him respond right back. I did this name thing but all the time. Now, when the transmission when I didn't make a make a note stuff, It's supposed to be here. Got saved in my house, not in the church, not with crowds of people around, then me and them in the house. When you were losing your mind. When your friend committed suicide.

When your family was at the hospital. When you keep the call. Dani Cohn. In this pasture, they're holding you up. Nothing else to prove to y'all anyway. Now what I'm working for is my good and well done. What I'm striving towards is my good and well done. Faithful servant. I don't want to get there and after all the stuff, and I've been running around trying to make people believe in Jesus. I can't then he say depart from me. I never knew you.

And 52nd birthday. Some of us still don't understand the Miracles of the Lowe's. God working is still working through his disciples. The disciples the whole time and I'm done eating the disciples the whole time. They were with Jesus, they never lacked anything. It went off of Jesus. Went up against a laser beam in the night would never endanger.

That man was possessed with the legions of demons and they nothing he never jumped on. One of the disciples never never was touched. Never was hurt. Never was hard. Never attacked.
