KBM Standing Against Lying

Today, as we continue our series on being a Defender of the Faith, we will be focusing on “Standing Against Lying.” Now strictly from a biblical perspective it is plainly obvious how God feels about lying. It most certainly is a sin.
Lying is considered by God an abomination.
22 Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, But those who deal truthfully are His delight.
Lying is considered worldly and something Christians should have removed from their lives.
9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds
Lying isn’t just blatantly not telling all the truth its being deceitful in any compacity.
7 No one who practices deceit shall dwell in my house; no one who utters lies shall continue before my eyes.
Simply put you cannot be faithful to God and be deceitful i.e., lie.
5 A faithful witness does not lie, But a false witness will utter lies.
With that said I want us to consider some ways in which humanity and even some in the church have started justifying lying.
Some have suggested if they are sparing the feelings of someone else then lying is just fine. I often hear husbands saying that if their wife asks them if they look fat in such and such outfit they dare not tell her the truth if she does.
Some have suggested that lies like this are simply “little white lies” that aren’t really lies since they don’t “hurt anyone.”
However, every lie hurts someone, not just the one that is being lied to but the one that is doing the lying.
9 A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who speaks lies shall perish.
Because lying is a sin, a single lie, no matter how small or insignificant we might think it is, brings forth spiritual death to us.
23 For the wages of sin is death…
Parents, I have this advice for you, every child will at some point strive to lie their way out of trouble they know they deserve. The punishment for lying must “far exceed” the punishment for telling the truth.
If you do not punish lying “far greater” than telling the truth you enforce the idea that lying is worth the try. This is a dangerous and sinful trap I see far too many parents fall into.
Christians need to stand against lying in every and all aspects of life, make no excuses trying to justify lying, and teach our children the eternal value of taking responsibility for actions instead of trying to lie their way out of trouble.
8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, fornicators, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.
