· A little while ago a person told me that I preach too much on God’s Love,
· I took it as a compliment, although that’s probably not what they intended.
· I know they probably felt I should spend more time on God’s Justice, rule.
· Putting the fear of God into people
· The problem is without understanding God’s Love, nothing else works
· Love is the most important Characteristic of God for us to understand
· Without knowing and operating in Love we restrict ourselves to be governed by fear.
·
· You See, I believe that as a christian you can be motivated by fear or love.
·Fear is a powerful emotion
At election time it seems fear is the primary weapon used to get elected
Our lives are controlled by fear
Fear is routed in religion
· If you are motivated by fear, you will only operate at the bare minimum
· Do whatever you can get by with.
· Love However is the basis of relationship.
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.
· Incidentally, I need to tell you something amazing
· Blew my socks of this week.
· To understand, It helps you to know How I prepare my messages.
· I normally plan my messages in my head throughout the weeks, and then later in the week I record my thoughts in a word document.
· That document is what I preach from.
· Well this week as I began to prepare as I normally do. Had the message in my head, and sat down to record it.
· At the top of my message I always have 5 lines for reference
· Title of the message The series & number The primary text reference The date It’s being preached; My Name
· The series & number
· The primary text reference
· The date It’s being preached
My Name
· I then always save the file.
· Why? Well you’ve heard the Story
satan was trying to prove he was better at computers than Jesus
Jesus tickled by the insinuation decided to prove a point to the devil and accepted the challenge
So satan and Jesus sat down at the keyboards and typed away.
Jesus worked with heavenly efficiency and satan was faster than hell.
Then, ten minutes before their time was up, lightning suddenly flashed
across the sky, thunder rolled, rain poured, and, of course, the power
went off
Satan stared at his blank screen and screamed
Jesus just sighed.
Finally the electricity came back on, and each of them restarted their
computers.
satan started searching frantically, screaming:
'It's gone! It's all GONE! 'I lost everything when the power went out!'
Meanwhile, Jesus quietly started printing out all of his files from
the past two hours of work.
satan observed this and became irate.
'Wait!' he screamed. 'That's not fair! He cheated! How come he has all
His work and I don't have any?'
God just shrugged and said,
JESUS SAVES
· So I save too
· But this time something interesting happened
· Word asked. Do you want to overwrite the existing file?
· I clicked cancel
· As I became intrigued, what file would I have in my “to be preached folder” with the exact same name.
· I opened the file that said it was created 8:57 pm on Mar 18 2017
· I don’t remember creating it, and if I did, why would I at 9pm on a Saturday night when the next day I way preaching on a totally different subject.
· As I read it I soon discovered the file contained my thoughts for the sermon already recorded!
· God is awesome,
· Not only does He tell me what to say, now he wrote it down in a word document,
· So let’s get into it!
· I would put forth that if You believe in a God who could revoke His love from you and disqualify from the grace of the cross,
· then as a consequence cast you into hell for all eternity, for actions you did or did not do
· You are going to have a distorted view of God.
· One that is grounded in fear that you might fail, rather than Love that catapults you to success.
· So to begin today. Pastor Derrick has inspired me to have the congregation read the passage.
· But don’t worry I’m going to make it easy on you
· I’ll read a Line….then you read a line….ok?
The Message (MSG)
136 1-3 Thank God! He deserves your thanks. His love never quits. Thank the God of all gods, His love never quits. Thank the Lord of all lords. His love never quits.
4-22 Thank the miracle-working God, His love never quits. The God whose skill formed the cosmos, His love never quits. The God who laid out earth on ocean foundations, His love never quits. The God who filled the skies with light, His love never quits. The sun to watch over the day, His love never quits. Moon and stars as guardians of the night, His love never quits. The God who struck down the Egyptian firstborn, His love never quits. And rescued Israel from Egypt’s oppression, His love never quits. Took Israel in hand with his powerful hand, His love never quits. Split the Red Sea right in half, His love never quits. Led Israel right through the middle, His love never quits. Dumped Pharaoh and his army in the sea, His love never quits. The God who marched his people through the desert, His love never quits. Smashed huge kingdoms right and left, His love never quits. Struck down the famous kings, His love never quits. Struck Sihon the Amorite king, His love never quits. Struck Og the Bashanite king, His love never quits. Then distributed their land as booty, His love never quits. Handed the land over to Israel. His love never quits.
23-26 God remembered us when we were down, His love never quits. Rescued us from the trampling boot, His love never quits. Takes care of everyone in time of need. His love never quits. Thank God, who did it all! His love never quits!
· You get What the Bible is saying in this psalm right? His love never quits
The Message (MSG)
16-18 “This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.
· God is Love and Love is God
·
1If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.
4Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, 5does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, 6does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part; 10but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. 11When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. 12For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known. 13But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.
