In 1804, two brave men named Lewis and Clark set out with a small band of explorers into a vast, unknown wilderness. They were true pioneers — they didn’t send others ahead. They went first. They faced grizzly bears, freezing mountains, raging rivers, and uncharted territory so that others could one day follow safely into the West.
They blazed the trail. They opened the way. They became the “captains” of a great national journey.
Two thousand years earlier, the Bible tells us that God appointed an even greater Pioneer — His own Son. Hebrews 2:10 says that God made “the captain of our salvation perfect through sufferings.” Jesus didn’t stay in the safety of heaven. He stepped into our dangerous wilderness of sin and suffering. He went first. He faced every trial, every temptation, and the horror of the cross so that He could lead many sons and daughters safely home to glory.

Because our Pioneer has gone before us, we can have peace today. Have Peace that the God of the Universe is not ashamed to call you his child because of our Eldest Brother the Suffering Savior.

God’s provision for us in Jesus was consistent with his gracious, merciful and faithful character, meeting our greatest need as fallen human beings.

The eternal life of God gives us can only give be given to us because of the suffering savior

1. Jesus the Perfect Pioneer v. 10 Pioneer of our salvation Pioneer, Author,

Owen emphasizes that Jesus is the ἀρχηγός — the Captain, the Pioneer, the One who goes first and opens the way. Because the justice of God must be satisfied.

Joshua 5:13–15 “13 When Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua approached him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?” 14 “Neither,” he replied. “I have now come as commander of the Lord’s army.” Then Joshua bowed with his face to the ground in homage and asked him, “What does my lord want to say to his servant?” 15 The commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, “Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did that.” Select 12 Men
Crossed Through the Jordan - Jesus went thought the Jordan into the wilderness.

Made perfect through sufferings.

He was “made perfect through sufferings.” Not because He was defective, but so He could be fully qualified and consecrated as our Leader.
The Atributes of God - The works of creation and Providence, and especially the works of redemption. God’s attributes on manifested. His wisdom, goodness, compassion, or infinite, but the exercise of one of these attributes are expensive another would derogate from his perfection it was instilled in Him that He would be the Pioneer of Salvation and Suffer for the People. , and therefore it became him to bring many sons of glory to make the Pioneer of our salvation, perfect through suffering. Entirely Appropriate- Fitting
It wasnt thats savage

10 For in bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was entirely appropriate that God—for whom and through whom all things exist—should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

The suffering wasn’t a bug in the plan — it was the divine design. The Pioneer had to walk the hardest path first so He could bring “many sons to glory.” IT was made for Jesus to take the Cup and Drink it to the Dregs.
Jesus didn’t stay safe in heaven. He blazed the trail through suffering and death so we could follow Him all the way home to glory. Because our Pioneer has already gone through it, we can have peace even in our own suffering.
Then He also points out the reason why it was necessary for none other than God the Word Himself to become incarnate; as follows: “For it became Him, for Whom are all things, and through Whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the Captain of their salvation perfect through suffering;” by which words He means, that it belonged to none other to bring man back from the corruption which had begun, than the Word of God, Who had also made them from the beginning.
Saint Athanasius of Alexandria

2. Jesus the Sanctifier of the Sanctified v. 11a

The Sanctifier of the Sanctified “For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one…”
There are none justified who are not sanctified and there are none sanctified who are not justified.
J. C. Ryle
He was a Human! This is the key verse for Owen. Christ and believers share the same human nature (“all of one”). Because He took our flesh and blood, He is able to sanctify us with His own blood and Spirit.
Since it became Him for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through suffering; and since, according to Old Testament prophecies, the Sanctifier and the sanctified, the Savior and the saved, must be of the same race; and since the saved are human beings,—the Son of God, the appointed Savior, assumed a nature capable of suffering and death—even the nature of man, when He came to save, that in that nature He might die, and by dying accomplish the great purpose of His appointment, the destruction of the power of Satan, and the deliverance of His chosen people”
Arthur Walkington Pink
Jesus didn’t sanctify us from a distance. He became one with us — bone of our bone, flesh of our flesh. The Sanctifier and the sanctified come from the same lump of humanity. That shared nature makes His sanctifying work effective for us.
Only sanctified souls are satisfied souls.
Charles Spurgeon

3. Jesus the Faithful of the Fathers Family v.10,11,12,13

Bring Us TO Glory!! Because He is Glorified We are Glorified. Romans 5:2 “2 We have also obtained access through him by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we boast in the hope of the glory of God.”
Romans 8:17–21 “17 and if children, also heirs—heirs of God and coheirs with Christ—if indeed we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is going to be revealed to us. 19 For the creation eagerly waits with anticipation for God’s sons to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility—not willingly, but because of him who subjected it—in the hope 21 that the creation itself will also be set free from the bondage to decay into the glorious freedom of God’s children.”
Romans 8:30 “30 And those he predestined, he also called; and those he called, he also justified; and those he justified, he also glorified.”

Glory is the Promised Rest to God’s People

The Coming Age Hebrews 6:5 “5 who tasted God’s good word and the powers of the coming age,”
The promised eternal inheritance Hebrews 9:15 “15 Therefore, he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called might receive the promise of the eternal inheritance, because a death has taken place for redemption from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.”
A kingdom that cannot be shaken Hebrews 12:28 “28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful. By it, we may serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe,”
A city that is to come Hebrews 13:14 “14 For we do not have an enduring city here; instead, we seek the one to come.” Many Sons - the Family Behold, with manner of love, father has bestowed on us that would be called sons of God if children and ears ears of God and joint ears with Christ. Believers are so united the only begotten son we shall sit on the throne with him as
Ephesians 2:6 “6 He also raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus,”

Not Ashamed Lewis and Clark were courageous pioneers in many ways — they faced extreme dangers and opened trails. But they were also men of their time: products of an expanding empire that viewed Native lands as available for claiming and Native people as obstacles or subjects to be managed.

They were not flawless heroes. Their actions sometimes involved violence, theft, and arrogance, and the long-term consequences were devastating for the very people who helped them survive.
If you're using this in your sermon on Hebrews 2:10-13 (Jesus as the perfect Pioneer), a good contrast would be:
Human pioneers like Lewis and Clark were flawed — they sometimes acted with shame, force, and self-interest.

Our true Pioneer, Jesus, is perfect. He suffered not to conquer or steal, but to save. He became one with us (all of one), took our shame upon Himself, and isto call us His brothers and sisters. not ashamed  Ashamed of the Pioneers.

Not ashmaed because of God the Father Getting GLory

Not ashmaed becasue he loves us som much that he died foe us. By the power OF Gods Resuretion he lives with us forever.

1 John 4:10 “10 Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.” This is where the three Old Testament quotes shine:
“I will declare thy name unto my brethren…” → He reveals the Father to us. Psalm 22:22 “22 I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters; I will praise you in the assembly.” Psalm 22 is fulfilled in Chrst suffering
“I will put my trust in him.” → He trusted the Father just as we must. 2 Samuel 22:3 “3 my God, my rock where I seek refuge. My shield, the horn of my salvation, my stronghold, my refuge, and my Savior, you save me from violence.”
“Behold I and the children which God hath given me.” → He proudly claims us as family before the Father.
Isaiah 8:18 “18 Here I am with the children the Lord has given me to be signs and wonders in Israel from the Lord of Armies who dwells on Mount Zion.”
Owen “Jesus is not ashamed to call us brethren. He sings with us, trusts with us, and presents us to the Father as His own children.”
Our Eldest Brother stands unashamed in the midst of the church and says, “These are my brothers and sisters — these are the children the Father gave Me.” Because Jesus is faithful to the Father’s family, we can rest in the peace that God is not ashamed to call us His children. Are You Ashamed?
2 Timothy 1:8–12 “8 So don’t be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, or of me his prisoner. Instead, share in suffering for the gospel, relying on the power of God. 9 He has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began. 10 This has now been made evident through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who has abolished death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. 11 For this gospel I was appointed a herald, apostle, and teacher, 12 and that is why I suffer these things. But I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to guard what has been entrusted to me until that day.” Romans 1:16 “16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek.” Bring Many More sons to Glory!!
