Matthew 28:16–20 NLT
Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him—but some of them doubted! Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

They Worshiped Him

Its a natural response
Relinquish all anxiety and fear
bow down
recognizing who He truly is
can’t enter into Almighty’s presence like going in and out of grocery store
This is King Jesus
What other response is there?

They Saw Him

They went to Galilee
They saw him because they were where they were supposed to be
They did what Jesus told them to do
If we expect to see Jesus we do what He said to do
What did he tell us to do?
Keep his commands
love God and love my neighbor
bear fruit
have faith
feed and care for his sheep
God expects the church to live out its faith in all spheres of their lives so that all of society will be blessed. Eric Metaxes ,“Letter to the American Church”
I see Jesus in the lives of those who do what He says do — they reflect Him!!!

Authority

“I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.”
Authority is given
It is not taken
Must be recieved from someone greater
The Son is equal, the HS is equal
So why did Jesus say this ?
I think for the disciples benefit - and ours
Could they understand such things?

In the case of man - many have wrongly claimed authority

authority not given
backward world - popular vote
Man can’t handle authority without some governing
Holy Spirit and others that God entrust are that
dangerous to have no accountability
God expects service not lordship out of leaders
God gives authority with purpose
Its not given to all
what a crazy thing that would look like
shared authority?
not God’s way - look at Moses
Deliver the people out
listen to their complaints
tried it his way and failed
did it God’s way and served and succeeded
God established Moses
God established Joshua
Stuff happened as a result
Those who didn’t recognize God’s given authority suffered
You can’t abolish authority
Those in the time of the disciples accepted the wrong authority

Leading Priests

they thought they were
they thought they were keepers of the law/truths
blind fools
they loved being in charge
power
they were not even in charge

Roman Rule

Pilate thought he was in charge
he feared Caesar
he came face to face with the King of kings
Even Pilate’s wife knew something

Hard to Recognize Who is Who

They had a hard time knowing who was really in charge
we are like that
who is really the authority?
Government - president, congress
boss

I think NOT!!!

True authority belongs to Jesus

He rules with truth and justice
He is the only righteous one
Who on earth could be more qualified?

When Jesus says Go — there must be no delay

no debate
no hobbling between opinions
He says Go not because He is a hard taskmaster
He gave us life where there was nothing but death
He wants others to experience the same thing
We have been given the ministry of reconciliation…
