But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.”

We have not reached perfection

We have to keep running forward.

what is the goal? perfection

or completeness.

Perfect union with Christ

this has to be our goal.

we just have to keep moving forward.

Forget what is behind

Our accomplishments

when we focus too much on our accomplishemnts we inflate ourselves too much. Like a overinflated ballon, we are in danger of pooing and being empties out.

Our failures

when we focus on this we deflate ourselves too much and become empty. Our ego should be like how we think of our bodies, we only notice them when something is wrong

To dwell on any of these too much will derail us. It puts the focus on you and not the goal.

Hold on

Philippians 3:15–16 “Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.”

there are evidently some believers that say they have reached perfection, Paul says just give it time they will realize they haven't

We can’t backtrack

What God has shown you needs to remain in our life.

like going to yc and realizing the same thing every time. We are not holding onto to what God has taught us.

We all struggle with this

Me right now is finances.

God is our rock and refuge we need to hold onto him when the storms come at us.
