Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
💡 THE SOLDIER’S LETTER
During WW2, a young soldier was stationed overseas for a long deployment. Communication was limited, and his family back home waiting anxiously for any word.
One day, a letter finally arrived.
His mother held it in her hands—trembling.
His wife gathered the children around.
Every word mattered… every line was precious…
Because that letter carried the heart of someone they loved.
That letter was more than ink—it was a connection.
Now imagine…
If the one delivering that letter:
Changed the words, Left out important parts, Or never delivered it at all
📌 That wouldn’t just be a mistake—that would be a betrayal.
That’s exactly what we have in this text.
We are called ambassadors for Christ.
A Roman Ambassador — was an official representative of Ancient Rome sent to foreign nations, provinces, or rulers to act on behalf of the Roman government.
We have been given the responsibility to carrying a message from:
A loving Father, A caring Savior, A holy God
And the world is waiting…
Not for our opinions, not for our political views, not our soap box petty judgements on what we think makes a perfect person, perfect president, perfect church …. Not opinions, but for His message.
How many messages do we share or retweet? Facebook, Twitter, TikToc, Instagram
we share Funny Reels, Political propaganda, recipes, we share gossip (have you seen this?)
But the only message that matters, the only message that can save a soul,is the message of Jesus Christ
What are you doing with the message you’ve been trusted to carry?
In the Roman Empire:
An ambassador carried the authority of the King, of Caesar
His words were treated as the emperor’s words
To reject him was to reject a Roman Ambassador is to reject Rome itself
What are you doing with the message you’ve been trusted to carry?
Are you delivering it faithfully?
Are you holding it back?
Or have you changed it to make it easier?
đź’ˇIn the Roman world, when an ambassador entered a hostile land, he did not come casually. He came clothed with authority. If he spoke, it was as if Caesar himself had spoken.
There are historical accounts where entire cities trembled—not because the ambassador had an army—but because he represented one.
The power was not in the man—the power was in who sent him.
I. THE AMBASSADORS IDENTITY
I. THE AMBASSADORS IDENTITY
“Now then we are ambassadors for Christ”
A. Ambassadors Are Chosen
A. Ambassadors Are Chosen
An ambassador was not self-appointed—he was selected.
John 15:16 — “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you…”
You didn’t apply—God appointed.
📌 You don’t represent Christ by accident—you represent Him by assignment.
B. Ambassadors Are Foreign Residents
B. Ambassadors Are Foreign Residents
Ambassadors are not needed at home, they are sent and lived in lands that were not their own.
KJV conversion is in heaven
“But our citizenship is in heaven”
This world is not your home—it’s your post.
C. Ambassadors Are A Visible Reflection Of The King
C. Ambassadors Are A Visible Reflection Of The King
An ambassador’s conduct reflected his kingdom.
💡 If a Roman ambassador acted foolishly, it brought shame not just on him—but on Rome itself.
Application:
Your life is preaching before your lips ever move.
II. THE AMBASSADORS AUTHORITY
II. THE AMBASSADORS AUTHORITY
"as though God did beseech you by us”
A. We Speak with Heaven’s Authority
A. We Speak with Heaven’s Authority
Ambassadors spoke with the authority of the throne.
“He that heareth you heareth me”
When you speak the Word of God, heaven stands behind it.
Steven spoke as Gods ambassador
B. Ambassadors didn’t edit the message
B. Ambassadors didn’t edit the message
Ambassadors didn’t edit the message—they delivered it.
💡 A Roman ambassador could not soften Caesar’s demands to make them more palatable. If he did, he risked his life.
Truth:
We are not called to adjust the gospel—we are called to announce it.
For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
C. A Serious Accountability
C. A Serious Accountability
If an ambassador misrepresented Rome, consequences followed.
Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.
I’ll use the ESV, KJV Uses Masters but teachers is more accurate today language
400 years ago a Master is what they called teachers.
The point is this, greater condemnation for teachers it’s a serious thing to walk into the roll of teacher if we teach wrong, if we lead someone astray because we didn’t understand then we will answer for it
Application:
We must handle God’s message faithfully, not fashionably.
III. THE AMBASSADOR’S MISSION
III. THE AMBASSADOR’S MISSION
"we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.”
A. The Ministry — Reconciliation
A. The Ministry — Reconciliation
The ambassador’s assignment is to bring two opposing parties into peace.
And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
We have been entrusted with the ministry of reconciliation.
We are not here to win arguments—we are here to bring people back to God.
here is the problem…..
a. GOD IS HOLY
a. GOD IS HOLY
Everything begins with who God is.
“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts”
“Be ye holy; for I am holy.”
Holiness is not just something God has—it is what God is.
He is perfect in purity, absolute in righteousness, and completely separated from sin.
God is not “mostly good”—He is completely without sin.
God does not measure up to a standard—He is the standard.
b. SIN AND SEPARATION
b. SIN AND SEPARATION
Because God is holy, He must respond to sin.
For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: Neither shall evil dwell with thee.
“Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil”
God’s love for sinners does not cancel His hatred for sin.
A holy God must deal with sin—for the good of the sinner and the glory of His name.
đź’ˇ A man was caught speeding through a well posted school zone of blind and deaf children . 65mph and he passed a school bus with its blinking lights on. multiple eye witnesses as well as on video. The man was arrested, he ad a suspended licence, multiple violations. When he stood before the judge he pleaded not guilty, he claimed he didnt see the signs, and he was was running late for work and the judge to go easy on him.
How would we feel if the judge dismissed the case? Would we hail the judge as righteous? a champion of the people…… NO, we would say that judge is corrupt
God is Righteous and Holy and can not nor will not turn a blind eye to sin
Because God is righteous that Sin separates us from God.
This separation began in the garden.
“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed”
enmity—a deep seeded hostility, opposition between God and man.
From that moment forward, humanity is not neutral toward God we are enemies.
“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
This is not just behavior—it is a condition of the heart.
Man is not merely distant from God—he is opposed to God.
“But your iniquities have separated between you and your God”
c. THE CURE — CHRIST
c. THE CURE — CHRIST
If Sin is a sickness….then a disease needs a cure. Because man could not fix the separation, God provided the solution.
“For he hath made him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin”
“And, having made peace through the blood of his cross”
Peace was not negotiated—it was purchased.
God did not overlook sin—He judged it in Christ.
d. THE CALL — SURRENDER
d. THE CALL — SURRENDER
That brings us to the message we are sent to deliver:
“Be ye reconciled to God.”
Not improve yourself, Not earn your way, Not fix your life.
Surrender to God through Jesus Christ.
That is our ministry and message
Ambassadors often arrived before an army with terms of peace.
Their message was clear: “Surrender and live… or resist and be destroyed.”
That was mercy before judgment.
Before Jerusalem fell in 70 A.D., warnings were given, appeals were made, and opportunities were extended.
But they refused.
The city was besieged.
Famine took hold.
The walls were breached.
The temple was burned.
We are not offering suggestions—we are delivering terms of peace from God.
e. THE DECISION
e. THE DECISION
“now commandeth all men every where to repent”
Every message demands a response.
The ambassador delivers the message—
but the hearer must decide.
To receive it is life.
To reject it is judgment.
That is why this mission matters.
We are standing between heaven and earth,
delivering a message that determines eternity.
IV. THE AMBASSADORS BURDEN
IV. THE AMBASSADORS BURDEN
— HOW WE SHOULD FEEL
"as though God did beseech you "
That word beseech means to beg, plead, urge strongly.
God is pleading with you come home and if you have then… i to spread the word…
“not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
This is the heart of the message, God desires that everyone hear the message and the terms… He wants all to come to him
its been given to you and me to share the message
💡 Imagine a king so loving that instead of sending immediate judgment, he sends a messenger with tears in his eyes saying, “Please… come back.”
