Pe: The Word of God

Notes
Transcript

Scripture has the power to totally transform our lives. It can take us from the depths of our lost and sinful lives and gradually change us into mature and godly servants for the LORD.
In this division of Psalm 119, the author testifies about Scripture’s ability to change lives. Through his statements about the Bible and his requests in regard to it, he reveals what God’s Word has already done for him as well as what he still wants and needs it to do.
Before we can personally know the transforming power of God’s Word, we have to read it, study it, seek to understand it, believe it, obey it, and apply it to our lives.
As the author of Psalm 119 shows throughout the chapter, God’s Word is sufficient for every need in our lives. This is, When You Realize How Life-Changing God’s Word Is, 119:129–136.
Psalm 119:129 KJV 1900
129 PE. Thy testimonies are wonderful: Therefore doth my soul keep them.
Psalm 119:130 KJV 1900
130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; It giveth understanding unto the simple.
Psalm 119:131 KJV 1900
131 I opened my mouth, and panted: For I longed for thy commandments.
Tonight,

We Acknowledge God’s Word

Having experienced the power of Scripture and the Sufficiency of Scripture, the psalmist acknowledges the wonderfulness of God’s Word.
Psalm 119:129 KJV 1900
129 PE. Thy testimonies are wonderful: Therefore doth my soul keep them.
Only God’s Word can bring amazing transformation in our lives.
The transformation comes when we Obey the words we read.
Psalm 119:130 KJV 1900
130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; It giveth understanding unto the simple.
God’s Word brings light into the darkness of our soul.
Even the simple can understand the Word of God.
Notice the contrast, God’s testimonies are wonderful we need to obey them.
God’s word brings light that shows us which way to go.
God’s word is the story of God’s love for us and our need for salvation. It points us, sinners, to the cross of Calvary and His Son, Jesus Christ. It helps us understand God’s forgiveness, mercy and grace.
2 Corinthians 4:3–6 KJV 1900
3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
After showing our need for salvation, The Word of God changes and transforms us.
2 Timothy 3:15–16 KJV 1900
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
God’s Word teaches us, rebukes us, corrects us, and instructs us in righteousness and it simple enough for anyone to understand complicated enough to intrigue us make us think for the rest of our lives.
Psalm 119:131 KJV 1900
131 I opened my mouth, and panted: For I longed for thy commandments.
Do we crave the word of God? There are people that crave God’s word.
We need to grasp how wonderful and powerful God’s word is and how blessed we are to have it.
Next,

We Pray for God’s Effectiveness

Psalm 119:132 KJV 1900
132 Look thou upon me, and be merciful unto me, As thou usest to do unto those that love thy name.
Favor (Grace) and Mercy:
Remember, the psalmist is suffering persecution by individuals who hate God’s Word.
The work look = to turn the face toward and is a request for favor.
be merciful = to bend or stoop in kindness to an inferior. The word depicts a heartfelt response by someone who has something to give to one who has a need.
None of us can live or thrive with God. God’s word is the way God chooses to speak to us. God’s word is the way God chose to reveal His truth to us.
The more you read God’s word, the more God imparts strength, comfort, encouragement, and hope to our hearts.
John 16:13 KJV 1900
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
God’s help is always available to His dear sons and daughters. But it is up to us to take advantage of His help by reading and studying His word.

We Desire God’s Guidance.

Psalm 119:133 KJV 1900
133 Order my steps in thy word: And let not any iniquity have dominion over me.
Psalm 37:23 KJV 1900
23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: And he delighteth in his way.
If God directs our step, we will be protected from sin and its enslaving power.
Psalm 119:134 KJV 1900
134 Deliver me from the oppression of man: So will I keep thy precepts.
Deliverance, redemption, from the oppressors.
God’s word not only brings us understanding, but God’s word is effective, and God’s word guides us through His Word.
Remember Ps 119:105
Psalm 119:105 KJV 1900
105 NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, And a light unto my path.
Remember Matt 6:13 of the disciples or model prayer.
Matthew 6:13 KJV 1900
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
You cannot read and follow God’s Word and become a slave of sin. God’s word will guide you to its author, God, and will protect you and remove you from the presence of Satan and his traps.
But again, You must have access to God’s Word, then you must read God’s Word, Study God’s Word, Memorize God’s Word, Obey God’s Word, and Apply God’s Word.
Ultimately, it all comes down to all of us looking to return to our creator

We are Seeking the Face of God.

Psalm 119:135 KJV 1900
135 Make thy face to shine upon thy servant; And teach me thy statutes.
Discipline is always seen in the Bible with God hiding His face from His people.
Psalm 13:1 KJV 1900
1 How long wilt thou forget me, O Lord? for ever? How long wilt thou hide thy face from me?
However, the shining of His face is a sign of blessing.
Psalm 4:6 KJV 1900
6 There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? Lord, Lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.
All of us want God’s blessings. God’s word brings us into the presence of God, a closer relationship with God. In the Word of God we see the real God, we are told who He is, what His name is, what He is like, how much He loves us.
We know God through His Word.
Psalm 119:136 KJV 1900
136 Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, Because they keep not thy law.
Tonight, as every day and night, we should be broken hearted that so many people don’t have the word of God or access to the Word of God to be comforted by the presence of God.
Everyone needs to know we can find strength from God’s Word to help us through trials, challenges, and disappointments of life.
If we open God’s Word and read God’s Word prayerfully, with an open mind and an eager heart, God will speak to us.
He will touch us. We will feel His comforting presence and hear His assuring voice.
