Confessional Prayer
Most merciful and righteous Heavenly Father,
We humbly confess that we are of flesh and in bondage to sin. There is nothing we can do to liberate ourselves from this body of death. It is what we deserve.
We confess we are by nature both sinful and unclean before you, a holy God who will not bargain with sin. We recognize that we have sinned before you in thought, in word, and in deed, both by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We admit that we deserve the penalty of eternal separation from your love.
We have not loved you fully, nor have we lived in reality and truth before You. We have not loved our neighbours as we have clearly loved ourselves, we have taken the gracious gifts that you have given us and misused them to satisfy our own desires. We have neglected the study of Your Word, We have neglected to fellowship both with You and Your people, we have not given You the first place in our hearts, and we have not prayed as we should. We have rightly incurred your wrath upon ourselves.
Gracious Father, we ask that you forgive us our sins. We acknowledge we are unable to do this for ourselves, and must rely on your mercy and grace to release us from our slavery to sin and the penalty we have ourselves incurred. We humbly ask that you would renew and refresh us by Your Holy Spirit. Create in us, we pray, a clean heart, and place within us a steadfast spirit that obeys your commands. Set us free from the penalty and power of sin as we turn to you in repentance and faith as we wait for your return.
Beloved Lord, we walk as if our Lord Jesus was still in the grave. We ask that you make us walk in the newness of life that Christ died and rose again from the grave to give us. Where it is required, we ask for the courage to obey You and stand in Your will for us.
We ask for Jesus’ sake that You give us a greater compassion for those who are lost without you. Help us to serve you as those who bring great tidings of good news upon the hills. We ask In Jesus’ name.
