Mid-Week Prayer Service
Mid-Week Prayer Service
Acts 2:1-41
Discussion Questions:
What’s something you do so often that you can do it on autopilot without even thinking?
Have you ever been somewhere expecting one thing, and it turned into something completely different? What happened?
Why do you think it’s so easy for Christianity to become routine instead of relational?
The quote was used: “The same sun that melts wax hardens clay.” What do you think determines the condition of your heart?
What stands out to you about Peter’s transformation from denial to boldness?
Why is it important that Peter’s message was centered on Jesus and not just inspiration or encouragement?
Why is baptism an important step and not just an optional one?
Which mark of the early church stands out to you the most:
Devotion
Community
Generosity
Mission
Why?
9. The text says “awe came upon every soul.” What do you think causes believers to lose that sense of wonder?
Thats enough questions for the evening.
And here’s what I don’t want us to do—lets transition into a time of prayer.
Because Acts 2 doesn’t stop with people talking about what God is doing.
It moves to people responding to what God is doing.
You saw it—they were cut to the heart, and they didn’t just sit there. They asked,
“Alright… what do we do?”
That’s the moment we’re stepping into right now.
This is where it shifts from discussion… to dependence.
From talking about God… to actually talking to Him.
Upward Prayer – Adoration
Upward Prayer – Adoration
Listen to what happens when God shows up:
Acts 2:2–4 (ESV)
“And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit…”
That’s the God we’re praying to.
He is powerful.
He is present.
He is active.
So let’s start there.
Let’s fix our eyes upward.
Take a moment and just begin to praise Him.
God, You are holy.
You are mighty.
You are sovereign over all things.
You don’t have to be manufactured.
You don’t have to be stirred up.
You are the God who shows up.
Church, right where you are, just begin to praise Him.
Downward Prayer – Confession
Downward Prayer – Confession
Now listen to the response when the Word hits their hearts:
Acts 2:37 (ESV)
“Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart…”
Before God moves through us, He works in us.
This is where we get honest.
Because if we’re real—some of us have been going through the motions.
Some of us have let this become routine.
Some of us have ignored what God has been pressing on our hearts.
So right now—this is a moment of confession.
Lord, where we’ve settled for routine, forgive us.
Where we’ve drifted, bring us back.
Where we’ve hardened our hearts, soften them.
Just take a moment and confess before the Lord.
He’s not here to crush you.
He’s calling you back.
Inward Prayer – Personal Transformation
Inward Prayer – Personal Transformation
Now Peter responds:
Acts 2:38 (ESV)
“And Peter said to them, ‘Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’”
This is where it gets personal.
Repentance.
Surrender.
Change.
Not behavior modification—heart transformation.
So now, make it personal.
God, change me.
Not just what I do—but who I am.
Help me turn from sin and walk in obedience.
Fill me with Your Spirit.
Lead my life.
Right now, you talk to the Lord.
This is between you and Him.
Outward Prayer – Mission

Then Peter says this:
Acts 2:39 (ESV)
“For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”
This was never just about us.
God doesn’t move in you just for you.
So now we look outward.
Think about people in your life—family, friends, coworkers—who need Jesus.
Call their names out to the Lord.
Ask God to save them.
Ask God to use you.
Ask for boldness like Peter.
Lord, give us courage.
Use us to make Christ known.
Don’t let us stay silent.
Take a moment and pray for others.
Thanksgiving – Gratitude
Thanksgiving – Gratitude
And then we see the result:
Acts 2:41–42 (ESV)
“So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.”
Three thousand lives changed.
That’s what God does.
So now we thank Him.
Thank Him for saving you.
Thank Him for forgiving you.
Thank Him for the church—for people to walk with, grow with, and worship with.
God, thank You for the cross.
Thank You for the empty tomb.
Thank You that we are not who we used to be.
Just spend a moment thanking Him.
Closing Call to Response
Closing Call to Response
Now listen—this isn’t just a moment.
This is a response.
In Acts 2, nobody walked away unchanged.
So here’s the question:
What is your step?
For some of you—you need to repent and believe.
For others—you need to stop holding back and step into obedience.
For some—you need prayer.
So in just a moment, we’re going to give you space to respond.
You can pray right where you are.
You can come forward.
You can grab someone to pray with you.
But don’t walk out of here unchanged.
Closing Prayer
Closing Prayer
God, we don’t want routine—we want You.
We don’t want to just go through the motions—we want to encounter Your presence.
Do in us what You did in Acts 2.
Change us.
Fill us.
Send us.
And let our lives show that You are still at work today.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
