Bible Passage
Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee:
He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION
Church, I want to talk to you today.
And I want to be honest with you from the very start.
Disappointment is real.
I said it's REAL.
It doesn't knock before it comes in.
It doesn't send a warning text.
It just shows up.
Uninvited.
Unwelcome.
Unannounced.
And if you've lived long enough—
you know exactly what I'm talking about.
You planned it one way—
but it went another way.
You believed for something—
and something else showed up instead.
You trusted somebody—
and they let you down.
You prayed a prayer—
and heaven was silent.
And disappointment sat down at your table like it belonged there.
But I came to tell somebody today—
disappointment may have visited you,
but it does NOT get to LIVE with you!
In our text for consideration in Psalm 55:22
We find a man named David writing from a valley experience.
He's not on a mountaintop—
he's in a mess.
If you read the whole Psalm we find that David is dealing with betrayal.
Somebody close to him, turned on him.
Somebody he walked with in the house of God, became his enemy.
Verse 12 says it wasn't a stranger—
it was a companion.
It was a familiar friend.
And out of THAT pain—
out of THAT disappointment—
David writes this one verse that has carried millions of people through their midnight season:
"Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved."
Allow me to preach tonight from this thought today:
"Cast It Before You Crash."
POINT 1: DISAPPOINTMENT IS HEAVY—ADMIT IT
POINT 1: DISAPPOINTMENT IS HEAVY—ADMIT IT
The first thing I need you to understand is that the word "burden" in this verse is not a small word.
In the original Hebrew, that word literally means "what has been given to you."
Did you Catch that?
It's not what you picked up.
It's what was PLACED on you.
Some of you didn't go looking for this disappointment.
It was handed to you.
Life dealt you a card you didn't ask for.
The doctor handed you a diagnosis.
The employer handed you a pink slip.
The person you loved handed you a betrayal.
And now you're walking around carrying something that was never supposed to be YOURS to carry.
Can I tell somebody the truth today?
It's heavy.
And it's okay to admit that.
You don't have to fake being fine on Sabbath morning.
You don't have to smile through your suffering just because you're sitting in church.
David didn't fake it.
He said in verse 4—"My heart is sore pained within me."
He said in verse 5—"Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me."
He said—I'm HURTING.
And God didn't rebuke him for being honest.
God gave him a SOLUTION.
I need you to know tonight: It's okay to be honest with God.
You can bring your disappointment to Him without dressing it up in religious language.
He already knows what you're carrying.
He just wants you to hand it over.
POINT 2: CAST IT—DON'T CARRY IT
POINT 2: CAST IT—DON'T CARRY IT
Now look at the command.
David says "CAST."
He didn't say set it down gently.
He didn't say place it politely.
He said CAST it!
That word means to HURL it.
To THROW it.
To FLING it with force!
Why?
Because some burdens won't leave if you're gentle with them!
Some disappointments have been with you so long they feel like family!
Some pain has sat in your chest so long you forgot what freedom feels like!
But God says CAST it!
Throw it off of you!
You've been carrying disappointment in your marriage—cast it!
You've been carrying disappointment in your career—cast it!
You've been carrying disappointment with yourself—cast it!
You've been carrying the weight of what didn't work out—CAST IT!
See, here's what the enemy wants—
he wants you to hold it.
He wants you to rehearse it.
He wants you to replay the failure every night before bed.
He wants you to carry it until it crushes you.
But I came to serve you notice today—
you better cast it before you crash!
Because a burden held too long will break what God built you to be!
Some of you are tired—
not because you're weak,
but because you've been carrying what was never yours!
POINT 3: HE SHALL SUSTAIN YOU—THAT'S A PROMISE
POINT 3: HE SHALL SUSTAIN YOU—THAT'S A PROMISE
Now catch the second part of this verse.
David says—"He SHALL sustain thee."
Not He MIGHT.
Not He COULD.
Not He'll THINK about it.
He SHALL.
That word "sustain" means to nourish.
To hold up.
To provide for.
To keep alive.
When you cast your burden—God doesn't just take it from you.
He FEEDS you through it!
He sustains your mind when your thoughts try to spiral.
He sustains your faith when doubt is knocking.
He sustains your joy when grief is heavy.
He sustains your hope when the waiting is long.
You don't have to sustain yourself!
Stop trying to be strong in your own power!
Stop trying to hold it all together by yourself!
Let HIM sustain you!
That's His job.
Your job is to CAST.
His job is to SUSTAIN.
Your job is to release.
His job is to restore.
Your job is to trust.
His job is to CARRY.
And let me tell you—He's never dropped anybody yet!
He sustained Moses in the wilderness.
He sustained Elijah under the juniper tree.
He sustained Daniel in the lion's den.
He sustained the three Hebrews in the fire.
And if He sustained THEM—
He will sustain YOU!
POINT 4: HE SHALL NEVER SUFFER THE RIGHTEOUS TO BE MOVED
POINT 4: HE SHALL NEVER SUFFER THE RIGHTEOUS TO BE MOVED
Now look at this last phrase— this is where it gets GOOD.
"He shall NEVER suffer the righteous to be moved."
Never.
Not sometimes.
Not usually.
NEVER.
God will NEVER allow your disappointment to DISPLACE you!
You might be shaken—
but you won't be SHIFTED.
You might be tested—
but you won't be TOPPLED.
You might feel like you're falling—
but your foundation is FIRM.
The enemy thought disappointment would move you off your faith.
He thought the letdown would make you let go.
He thought the delay would make you walk away.
But look at you!
You're STILL in the house of God!
You're STILL lifting your hands!
You're STILL opening your Bible!
You're STILL believing God for the impossible!
Disappointment came—but you didn't move!
Betrayal came—but you didn't move!
The job fell through—but you didn't move!
The relationship ended—but you didn't move!
Because when you're rooted in the Lord—
no disappointment has the AUTHORITY to relocate your destiny!
POINT 5: YOUR DISAPPOINTMENT IS A DETOUR—NOT A DEAD END
POINT 5: YOUR DISAPPOINTMENT IS A DETOUR—NOT A DEAD END
Now hear me, church.
I need you to get this before I land this plane.
Disappointment feels like a period.
But in God's hands—it's just a comma.
It feels like the end of the sentence—
but God is still writing your story!
What you thought was a closed door—
was God redirecting your steps.
What you thought was a failure—
was God protecting you from something you couldn't see.
What you thought was a denial—
was God's delay for a GREATER yes!
Some of you are sitting in disappointment right now—
but if you could see what God sees—
you'd thank Him for what didn't work out!
You'd thank Him for the prayer He didn't answer your way!
You'd thank Him for the door He closed!
Because your pit is not your permanent residence—
it's just a portal to your palace!
God is using the disappointment to develop you.
He's using the delay to deepen you.
He's using the pain to prepare you.
And when you finally step into what He's been building—
you'll look back and say—
"It had to happen THAT way so I could get HERE."
CLOSING
CLOSING
So let me say this as I close.
Whatever you're carrying today—
Cast it.
Whatever disappointment has your name on it—
Cast it.
Whatever failure keeps replaying in your head—
Cast it.
Whatever letdown has been sitting on your chest—
Cast. It. NOW.
Because my Bible tells me—
He shall SUSTAIN you!
I don't know about you—
but I've been disappointed before!
I've had plans fall apart!
I've had people walk away!
I've had seasons that made no sense!
But every time—
EVERY SINGLE TIME—
God sustained me!
He didn't let me fall!
He didn't let me break!
He didn't let me lose my mind!
He held me—
when I couldn't hold myself!
Oh, I feel the Spirit in this place!
He sustained me,
in the midnight hour!
He sustained me,
when the tears wouldn't stop!
He sustained me,
when I couldn't pray in sentences—
and all I could do was groan!
But He heard the groan—
and He sent the grace!
He sent the strength!
He sent the breakthrough!
And I'm STILL here!
Not because I'm strong—
but because HE sustained me!
Cast it
He'll catch it!
Throw it
He'll take it!
Release it
He'll replace it!
You will NOT crash—
because the One who holds the universe—
is holding YOU!
And He will NEVER—
I said NEVER—
let the righteous be moved!
So stand up in your disappointment!
Lift your hands in your delay!
Open your mouth in your valley!
And declare—
"I cast it ALL on the Lord—and He sustains me!"
You didn't crash.
You didn't break.
You didn't lose your faith.
You're still standing.
And that, my friend, is the sustaining power of God.
YOU NEED TO TELL THE ENEMY RIGHT NOW:
I refuse to carry what God told me to cast.
My disappointment is NOT my destination.
I am sustained.
I am upheld.
And I will NOT be moved!
