I saw a study recently about teens and social media. It had some interesting and concerning findings.

We must look to who God says we are, not the world, to find out who we are!

read passage

God says we are his people

9-10
God tells us in his Word that we are loved, redeemed, holy, chosen, and adopted as his children.
I have a catch phrase I use sometimes. When I’m going to look goofy or unattractive. I recently used it when I had a spot removed off of my face. It gave me a scar… and people don’t want scars usually, especially on their faces, because they aren’t attractive. But when I think about it I use my catch phrase. “It’s ok, I’ve already got a hot wife.” It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks because she loves me!
Ephesians 1:3–4 ESV
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love
So Christian, listen to what God says about who you are! Your identity is in Him! Not what you do… Not what anyone else says… Listen to God’s Words about you! Represent yourself and God that way online. Don’t let comments or not getting enough likes speak louder the God to your self-worth and your heart! Remind yourself of it daily. Follow things online that remind you of it. Read God’s Word more than you are on social media! That way, when you hear those other voices you remember the truth!

The world will try to say we are their people

11-12
The world wants to tell everyone who they are, and social media is a platform for it! We hear voices telling us all kinds of other things, especially on social media, trying to define us by something other than who we are in Jesus… You must not believe those voices.
Sometimes kids say dumb stuff. It’s not their fault! They’re just kids, they don’t know stuff and they don’t know that they don’t know stuff! They’ll try explain things and it’s just crazy off the wall stuff they’ve come up with! Like explaining how the moon revolves around the Earth… Or the rules of a game…
Scripture says that non-spiritual people do not understand spiritual things. Those who don’t know the Lord don’t understand our identity in Him, so they can’t speak of it, they can’t even understand it!
2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
And if you are in Christ, if you have been made a new creation, then it doesn’t matter what they say! They don’t know!
Romans 8:33–34 ESV
Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
If you have never put your faith in God then there is still a charge against you, but if you will trust in Him you will be made a new creation! No longer seen according to your sins, but Christ’s righteousness…
