Speaking about the Series

SIGNS: MORE THAN MIRACLES- Faith Without Proof

In the Gospel of John, Jesus’ miracles are called "signs"—they point to something greater than the deed itself.
📖 John 20:31
“These signs were written so that you may believe…”
And during this series… SIGNS: MORE THAN MIRACLES -
👉 God doesn’t just want to impress you
👉 He wants to reveal Himself to you
Let me start with a simple question…
👉 Do you only believe when you see?
(pause)
Because that is the logic of our generation:
to see in order to believe
to feel in order to believe
to control in order to trust
But the Kingdom of God works the other way around:
👉 to believe… before seeing
And this comes into direct conflict with our nature.
Because we like security
we like guarantees
we like proof
👉 Illustration:
It’s like buying something online…
You read reviews
you check the comments
you look at photos
👉 you want to be sure before you trust
But with God…
He doesn’t show you everything beforehand.
Hebrews 11:1 “1 Now faith is the assurance of what we hope for and the proof of things we do not see.”
👉 God asks for faith first
And today we are going to meet a man…
👉 who arrived in desperation
👉 but left transformed
Not because he saw the miracle…
👉 but because he believed the Word

CONNECTION

John 4:46 NIV
46 Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum.
📖 John 4:46
…A royal official…”basilikos”—someone who is in the service of the king. (prob.Herod Antipas)
An important man
Influential
Respected
But with a problem he could not solve
👉 His son was at death's door
This strikes a deep chord within us...
Because no matter how much you have
👉 There are things money cannot fix
👉 A realistic illustration:
Have you ever seen someone strong... crumble?
Someone everyone admires
But when a crisis hits...
👉 You realize they are human, too
This man held a high position
But he had no solution
And perhaps this speaks to someone here today
👉 On the outside, you seem fine
👉 But there is something you cannot resolve

EXPOSITION OF THE TEXT

John 4:47 NIV
47 When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death.
He hears about Jesus
Romans 10:14 NIV
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?
Illustrations: the importance of witnessing to Jesus
Where did he hear about Jesus?… church?… sinagoga? …temple?… Probably at work… in the palace… friends…
He hears about Jesus ….And goes to Him
👉 He doesn't send someone else
👉 He goes personally
And he pleads:
John 4:49 NIV
49 The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”
👉 “Come down before my child dies”
Do you notice that?
👉 He wants to control how Jesus acts
And we do this, too
“God, do it this way...”
“Fix it like this...”
“On my own timeline...”

JESUS' RESPONSE (v.48)

Jesus says something strange:
John 4:48 NIV
48 “Unless you people see signs and wonders,” Jesus told him, “you will never believe.”
👉 “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will never believe.” It seems harsh…
But Jesus is revealing something profound:
👉 Faith based solely on results
is not true faith.
👉 Illustration:
There are people who only seek God when they are in need.
Once the problem is resolved, they disappear.
👉 This is not a relationship;
it is self-interest.

THE PERSISTENT PLEA (v. 49)

The man persists:
👉 “Lord, come…”
He is still bound by the logic that:
👉 “Jesus needs to go there.”

THE TURNING POINT (v. 50)

Jesus responds:
John 4:50 NIV
50 “Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed.
👉 “Go… your son will live.”
(pause)
No sign
no spectacle
nothing visible
👉 just a word
Now everything changes
👉 the text says:
“The man took Jesus at his word… and departed.”
That is powerful.
👉 He didn’t see.
👉 He had no confirmation.
👉 He had no proof.
👉 He only had a word.
And it was enough.

THE PATH OF FAITH

Imagine his journey back home…
Without knowing
without seeing
without feeling
👉 just trusting
👉 illustration:
Have you ever lived through that moment…
when everything depends on something you haven’t seen yet?
That is when faith is tested.

THE CONFIRMATION (vv. 51–53)

John 4:51–53 NIV
51 While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. 52 When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.” 53 Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So he and his whole household believed.
The servants meet him and say:
👉 “Your son lives.”
And he asks:
👉 “At what time?” And it was at that very moment…
👉 when Jesus spoke
Then he believed…
👉 he and his entire household

🔥 SPIRITUAL TRUTHS

1. PAIN CAN BE A PATH TO JESUS

This man only went to Jesus because of a crisis
👉 and that isn’t a bad thing
Sometimes God uses pain…
👉 to draw you close

2. FAITH IS NOT BASED ON WHAT YOU SEE

👉 true faith begins in the invisible
📖 Hebrews 11:1
“Faith is the assurance of things hoped for…”
👉 Illustration:
It’s like planting a seed
You don’t see anything for days
👉 but you trust that something is happening

3. JESUS’ WORD IS SUFFICIENT

He didn’t go to the house
He didn’t touch the boy
👉 He spoke
And that was enough

4. FAITH IS ACTING BASED ON WHAT GOD HAS SAID

👉 “the man trusted… and went”
Faith is not a feeling
👉 it is a decision

5. YOUR FAITH CAN TRANSFORM YOUR HOUSEHOLD

👉 “he believed… and everyone in his household”
Your decision impacts others

APPLICATION

Now, let me bring this home for you…
👉 Where is God calling you to trust…
without showing you everything?
(pause)
Perhaps:
in your spiritual life
in your future
regarding a difficult decision
regarding something that seems uncertain
And you are waiting for:
👉 a sign
👉 a confirmation
👉 a guarantee
But today, God is saying:
👉 “Trust first”
👉 A powerful illustration:
Trusting God is like walking in the dark with someone holding your hand.
You cannot see the path…
👉 but you trust the One guiding you.

🔄 TRANSITION TO THE LORD’S SUPPER

Today we spoke about a man…
👉 who had to learn to trust
👉 without seeing
👉 without feeling
👉 without having proof
Jesus simply said:
👉 “Go… your son will live.”
And that man made a decision:
👉 to trust the Word.
(pause)
Now, I want to take you to another moment…
Because the Lord’s Supper…
👉 is exactly that
👉 an invitation to trust… even without seeing.
When we look at the bread…
👉 we do not see the body of Jesus.
When we look at the cup…
👉 we do not see His shed blood.
But by faith…
👉 we believe.
We believe that:
He gave Himself for us.
He bore our sins.
He conquered death.
He gave us life.
📖 1 Corinthians 11:26
“For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.”
👉 The Supper is not merely a memory;
👉 it is a declaration of faith.

CONNECTION

Just like that father…
👉 we, too, have received a Word.
But unlike him…
👉 we have something even stronger:
👉 we have the Cross.
(pause)
The Cross is the proof of God’s love—
👉 even when you do not feel it,
👉 even when you do not understand it.

🔥 MOMENT OF REFLECTION

Before we partake…
I want to invite you into a moment of sincerity with God.
👉 Is there something you have not yet been able to entrust to Him?
👉 Is there an area of your life you still want to control? 👉 Is there a fear holding you back from believing?
(long pause)
Today is a moment of surrender.

🙌 INSTRUCTION FOR COMMUNION (Deacons…)

As you hold the bread…
remember:
👉 His body was given for you.
As you hold the cup…
remember:
👉 His blood was shed for you.
And perhaps you cannot see it all…
👉 but you can believe.

🛐 PRAYER FOR COMMUNION

“Jesus…
today we partake by faith.
Just as that man trusted in Your word…
👉 we trust in Your work.
Thank You for Your body given.
Thank You for Your blood shed.
Forgive our sins,
heal our hearts,
and strengthen our faith.
We believe… even without seeing.
In Jesus’ name… amen.”

🍞 PARTAKING

👉 (moment to take the bread)
👉 (moment to take the cup)

🎯 CLOSING STATEMENT

👉 “We do not see…
but we believe.
And because we believe…
we live.”

PRAYER

Lord our God…
we thank You for everything that has happened here today:
👉 for Your presence,
👉 for Your Word,
👉 for everything You have spoken to our hearts.
Father…
we know that no one arrived here by chance.
👉 You know every story,
every struggle,
every silent prayer.
And today we declare…
👉 we choose to trust in You.
Even when we do not see,
even when we do not understand,
even when we do not feel—
👉 we believe.In Your Word,
Lord…
Send each person forth from here with Your peace:
👉 Guard every mind against all anxiety;
👉 Strengthen every heart against all doubt;
👉 Renew the faith of those who were weary.
Throughout this coming week…
👉 May Your voice be stronger than fear;
👉 May Your truth be greater than insecurity;
👉 May Your presence be real in every decision.
Father…
May that which began today…
👉 Continue in the days ahead;
👉 Grow deep within us;
👉 Bring about real transformation.
Bless every family,
Every home,
And every path that will be traveled upon leaving this place.
And may we live in this way:
👉 Not by what we see,
👉 But by faith in You, Lord.
We thank You for everything.
And we declare…
👉 We leave here changed;
👉 We leave here strengthened;
👉 We leave here trusting in You.
In Jesus’ name…
Amen. 🙌
