Hebrews 12:1–2 NASB 2020
Therefore, since we also have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let’s rid ourselves of every obstacle and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking only at Jesus, the originator and perfecter of the faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
We Are Not Alone On This Journey To Follow Jesus.
Hebrews 12:1 NASB 2020
Therefore, since we also have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us,
We are not alone in our walk with Jesus. We have this cloud of witnesses as an example of lifelong, enduring faith.
They ran their race and finished well.
What we must understand is that following Jesus is more than this one week of revival. It’s a lifelong journey.
Removing The Things That Entangles And Slows Us Down.
Hebrews 12: 1
“Let’s rid ourselves of every obstacle and the sin which so easily entangles us,”
Revival often reveals things we need to let go of.
Not everything is sin- but some things are weights holding us back from our walk with Jesus.
We are not to pick these things back up since revival is over, but we are to continually surrender these things to Jesus.
Things to consider!
What did God deal with you about during these few weeks?
What still need to be removed from our lives?
Run With Endurance.
Hebrews 12: 1
“Let’s run with endurance the race that is set before us,”
Some of us stopped running and didn’t even notice it. (I was on empty)
The Christian life is not a sprint- it’s steady faithfulness!
What we need to know is that revival creates momentum, but discipline sustains it.
being disciplined in the word.
being disciplined in our prayer life.
being disciplined in our faithfulness in church.
being disciplined in serving Jesus.
We know that revival creates an emotional high, but we are to convert that emotion into daily obedience.
Focusing on Jesus.
Hebrews 12:2
“Looking only at Jesus, the originator and perfecter of our faith.”
Revival is not about an event. It’s about Jesus and us getting back right before Him.
If we chase these emotional feelings of revival, we will burn out. If we fix our eyes on Jesus, we will endure.
Jesus didn’t just start our faith- He carries us to the end of our faith journey.
Why Is It Worth It!
Hebrews 12:1–2 NASB 2020
who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Even Jesus endured the cross because He knew what lay ahead.
Our joy and hope is being in Heaven with Jesus one day.
Closing
Don’t let revival be a memory, but let it be a turning point in our walk with Jesus.
For most of us, the race has started again. Will you keep running?
