Luke 8:26–33
26. And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee.
27. And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.
28. When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not.
29. (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.)
30. And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him.
31. And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep.
32. And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them.
33. Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.”

Introduction to Grace

What is Grace
It is the pleasures of God
The favor of God
That which brings joy
God’s grace is unmerited divine favor
It’s a favor that comes with gifts
Grace is a gift
it’s a token
a benefit of a covenant
The covenants you create matter
Covenants that are crafted determine what is delivered to you and added to your life
covenants determine what is ultimately developed in you
It matters what you make covenants with
A covenant is a commitment/a promise
What you make commitments to will either
comfort you
or cause you conflict
What you kinds of commitments have you made
You make covenants with every decision that you make
what you choose to wear
determines what you attract
How you choose to communicate
what you give your yes or your no to

Conflict with the Text

This is a tale of two communities
community says goodbye while christ says goodbye
two communities
one communication
One says goodbye to the man and leaves
the other says goodbye to bondage and breaks it
One says see you later
the other says I’ll be with you always
One says you’re too broke to fix
the other says you’re not too broken for me not to fix

Grace is simply Jesus shows up

26 And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee. 27 And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.

My concern is that while everyone is so eager to leave, Jesus reveals you’re never too far gone to be found
I was once lost, but now I am found
Jesus did nothing more than play a game of peekaboo
.

When Jesus shows up, your situation will speak up

28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high?

When Jesus shows up, can’t leave the same way you came in

34 When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country. 35 Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
