Application: This sermon can help Christians recognize the authority of Christ in their struggles, encouraging them to bring their burdens before Him. It also serves as a challenge to reach out with compassion towards those who are lost and suffering, just as Jesus did.
The Son Of Man Forgives and Heals
The Son Of Man Forgives and Heals
1 So he got into a boat, crossed over, and came to his own town.
Rejected by the Gergesenes
Jesus crossed the Sea of Gal and came to Cap which became his home
2 Just then some men brought to him a paralytic lying on a stretcher. Seeing their faith, Jesus told the paralytic, “Have courage, son, your sins are forgiven.”

5 Then the eyes of the blind will be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped.
6 Then the lame will leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute will sing for joy, for water will gush in the wilderness, and streams in the desert;
Jew Aud Knew OT proh were being fullfiilled
3 At this, some of the scribes said to themselves, “He’s blaspheming!”
4 Perceiving their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why are you thinking evil things in your hearts?
5 For which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’?
Scribes were a a type of scholar for OT interpreting and cc’ing. Guardians of trad.
They cons this blasp since only GOD can 4give sins
He saw what they thought and proved who he is by removing the PHYSICAL cons of SIN
6 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—then he told the paralytic, “Get up, take your stretcher, and go home.”
7 So he got up and went home.
8 When the crowds saw this, they were awestruck and gave glory to God, who had given such authority to men.
Scribes had fear and wonder
They missed the miracle. the healing was a visual sign of the mans sins being forgiven.
The scribes became more hard hearted
Disciples did not have authority or ability or credentials to forgive sins...that was only in the JESUS...they did have authority to cast out demons and heal
The amazement showed that the scribes who suppose repped God actually did NOT
The Call Of Matthew
The Call Of Matthew
9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office, and he said to him, “Follow me,” and he got up and followed him.
Rom Emp overlord Israel was Tax Collector
-Lost comf job, found dest, lost good income and found honor, lost sec found adventure
10 While he was reclining at the table in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came to eat with Jesus and his disciples.
Mt way of professing JESUS publically
Guest were tx coll and sinners
11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
When we lead, NS always will look for an opp to tear you down
12 Now when he heard this, he said, “It is not those who are well who need a doctor, but those who are sick.
Phar consid thems very healthy. they were sick. unwilling to conf

A Question About Fasting
A Question About Fasting
14 Then John’s disciples came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”
By this time John the Baptist was probably in prison
15 Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests be sad while the groom is with them? The time will come when the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.
Jesus was bridegroom and disciples were guests. no reason to fast as sign of mourning. Jesus will be take then they can fast. then bodily absent. Fast is approved as a disciple.
16 No one patches an old garment with unshrunk cloth, because the patch pulls away from the garment and makes the tear worse.
Jesus points out that John Marked the end of one dispensation and on the the new age of grace. you cannot mix law and grace ...would be like new unshrunk cloth to a patch from an old garment. the patch shrinks and rips at the old garment.
17 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the skins burst, the wine spills out, and the skins are ruined. No, they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.”
pressure from fermenting wine would burst the old skins because it has lost its elasticity.
Grace transforms us from the inside out. Leading to us living a life increasingly aligning with the law as we are sanctified.
A Girl Restored And A Woman Healed
A Girl Restored And A Woman Healed
18 As he was telling them these things, suddenly one of the leaders came and knelt down before him, saying, “My daughter just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.”
19 So Jesus and his disciples got up and followed him.
Jesus’ discourse on dispensation was interrupted distraught ruler of synagogue whose daughter just died. He knelt requesting him to come! This was exceptional in public.
Jesus dem auth over sick/ nat/ sin and NOW death.
20 Just then, a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years approached from behind and touched the end of his robe,
He was always poised, accessible, and approachable.
Social and religious issue and ceremonial unclean...
21 for she said to herself, “If I can just touch his robe, I’ll be made well.”
22 Jesus turned and saw her. “Have courage, daughter,” he said. “Your faith has saved you.” And the woman was made well from that moment.
Med was not helping. Getting worse. Sought out desperately....true faith never goes un noticed.
Daughter is a term of endearment here.
Your faith has healed....Jesus cites a persons faith as a pre requisite for healing
23 When Jesus came to the leader’s house, he saw the flute players and a crowd lamenting loudly.
24 “Leave,” he said, “because the girl is not dead but asleep.” And they laughed at him.
Sleep or Coma/ Death=Miracle
25 After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took her by the hand, and the girl got up.
26 Then news of this spread throughout that whole area.
By hand could have been “unclean”
Egeiro is greek for get up. same word used to describe Jesus’ resurrection
Healing The Blind
Healing The Blind
27 As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!”
28 When he entered the house, the blind men approached him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I can do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.”
SoD called out knew he was Mess and King of Is. Mess came sight to blind( Is 61:1
1 The Spirit of the Lord God is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners;
He tested them by asking if they thought he could
29 Then he touched their eyes, saying, “Let it be done for you according to your faith.”
30 And their eyes were opened. Then Jesus warned them sternly, “Be sure that no one finds out.”
31 But they went out and spread the news about him throughout that whole area.
Grat is not valid excuse for disob
Driving Out A Demon
Driving Out A Demon
32 Just as they were going out, a demon-possessed man who was unable to speak was brought to him.
Miracels: Life, Understanding, then testimony. Dumbness.
33 When the demon had been driven out, the man who had been mute spoke, and the crowds were amazed, saying, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel!”
Israel Stunned!
34 But the Pharisees said, “He drives out demons by the ruler of the demons.”
JESUS called this the unpardonable sin. Blas against holy spirit. others blessed, phar cold dead dumb.
The Lord Of The Harvest
The Lord Of The Harvest
35 Jesus continued going around to all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness.
Jesus off to reign if Is would repent.
36 When he saw the crowds, he felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd.
Lack of leadership; leaders are needed....setting up for Chapter 10!
37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few.
Need is always greater than the workforce
38 Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.”
The need does not mean to go, you go if you are called
