Title: “The Strength of a Godly Woman”
Text: Proverbs 31:25–31 (CSB)
Introduction
Introduction
Mother’s Day often paints an unrealistic picture.
Perfect moms. Perfect homes. Perfect lives.
But Scripture doesn’t give us a shallow, polished image—it gives us something far better:
a woman whose strength is rooted in her relationship with the Lord.
In Proverbs 31, we are not looking at perfection—we are looking at priority, character, and reverence for God.
Text Reading – Proverbs 31:25–31 (CSB)
“Strength and honor are her clothing, and she can laugh at the time to come. Her mouth speaks wisdom, and loving instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the activities of her household and is never idle. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also praises her: ‘Many women have done noble deeds, but you surpass them all!’ Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised. Give her the reward of her labor, and let her works praise her at the city gates.”
I. Her Strength Comes from Character, Not Circumstances
I. Her Strength Comes from Character, Not Circumstances
“Strength and honor are her clothing…”
Expounding the Text
This is not outward strength, it’s inner strength.
This is not outward strength, it’s inner strength.
“Clothing” here speaks of what defines her identity.
She is wrapped in:
Strength (spiritual resilience)
Honor (dignity and integrity)
And because of that…
“She can laugh at the time to come.”
She is not controlled by fear of the future.
She is not controlled by fear of the future.
Why?
Because her confidence is not in circumstances—it is in God’s sovereignty.
Because her confidence is not in circumstances—it is in God’s sovereignty.
Application
Life is unpredictable:
Financial pressure
Health issues
Family struggles
But a godly woman is not shaken because her strength is not situational—it is spiritual.
That kind of strength doesn’t come from personality.
It comes from walking with the Lord daily.
II. Her Words Build Rather Than Break
II. Her Words Build Rather Than Break
“Her mouth speaks wisdom, and loving instruction is on her tongue.”
Expounding the Text
Two powerful truths:
She speaks wisdom (truth shaped by God’s Word)
She speaks wisdom (truth shaped by God’s Word)
She gives loving instruction (truth delivered with grace)
She gives loving instruction (truth delivered with grace)
Her words are not careless—they are intentional and life-giving.
She understands something critical:
Words shape hearts.
Application
In the home, words have tremendous power.
They can:
Encourage or discourage
Build confidence or create insecurity
Point toward God or away from Him
A godly mother uses her voice to:
Teach truth
Correct with love
Speak life into her family
And that doesn’t require perfection—just intentionality and surrender to God.
III. Her Faithfulness Is Seen in the Everyday Moments
III. Her Faithfulness Is Seen in the Everyday Moments
“She watches over the activities of her household and is never idle.”
Expounding the Text
This is not about being busy, it’s about being faithful.
This is not about being busy, it’s about being faithful.
“She watches over” means:
She is attentive
She is engaged
She is invested
Much of what she does may seem:
Repetitive
Ordinary
Unnoticed
But in God’s eyes, it is deeply significant.
Application
The world celebrates big, visible achievements.
But God honors consistent faithfulness.
But God honors consistent faithfulness.
The daily acts:
Preparing meals
Teaching lessons
Having conversations
Praying quietly
These are not small things.
They are the very tools God uses to shape lives.
IV. Her True Beauty Is Found in Her Fear of the Lord
IV. Her True Beauty Is Found in Her Fear of the Lord
“Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised.”
Expounding the Text
This is the foundation of everything.
“Fears the Lord” means:
Reverence
Awe
A life surrendered to God
The world values:
Appearance
Personality
Popularity
But all of those are temporary.
The only lasting beauty is a life rooted in God.
The only lasting beauty is a life rooted in God.
Application
This verse resets everything.
Success is not:
Having it all together
Being admired by everyone
Success is:
Walking in reverence before God.
That is what lasts.
That is what matters.
That is what leaves a legacy.
Conclusion
Conclusion
The passage ends with recognition:
“Her children rise up and call her blessed…”
This is not forced—it is earned over time through:
Character
Faithfulness
Reverence for God
Final Challenge
On this Mother’s Day:
For mothers:
For mothers:
Don’t chase perfection—pursue God
Don’t measure by culture—measure by Scripture
For families:
For families:
Recognize and honor the godly influence in your life
For everyone:
For everyone:
The same qualities apply to all believers
Invitation
The foundation of this entire passage is clear:
“A woman who fears the Lord will be praised.”
That kind of life begins with a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
If that foundation is missing, everything else falls short.
Today is the day to:
Trust Christ
Surrender fully
Begin building a life that truly lasts
Closing Prayer
“Lord, thank You for the example of godly women. Help us to value what You value. Strengthen mothers to walk faithfully with You, and help all of us to live lives marked by reverence, wisdom, and faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
