Matthew 13:24-42
I.
The Parables Stated (24-35)
A. The Parable of the Tares (24-30)
Matthew 13:24-30
They were a weed called bearded darnel (lolium temulentum).
In their early stages, the tares so closely resembled the wheat that it was impossible to distinguish the one from the other.
The Nature of the Kingdom {it is a mixed kingdom}
B. The Parable of the Mustard Seed (31-32)
Matthew 13:31-3
Disciples would have been discouraged that it wasn’t a “pure” kingdom and that they would be swallowed up by the tares since they were so small.
Mustard seed is the smallest of all the seeds of the field used at that time.
What is the tree mean:
Daniel 4:10
The Power of the Kingdom
C. The Parable of Leaven (33)
3 measures of flour (ephah).
In liquid measure it would be about 3 gallons.
Take a starter portion of leavened bread and add it to the new dough.
The kingdom in its fullness will be global and influence the whole world

II.
The Parable Explained (36-42)
Matthew 13:35-
M
A. The Sower
— Jesus owns the field and the field is the world.
Jesus is the true owner and king of the world.
B. The Field
— the world, not the church.
We do judge and weed out in the church.
We are commanded to.
We are not to purge out all evil in the world, this would be like Islam which seeks to eradicate all “infidels” from the world.
C. The Good Seed
— believers.
When they are young, you cannot tell them apart from unbelieving children.
D. The Tares
— Non-believers.
When they are young, you cannot tell them apart from christian children.
As they grow older and are confirmed in their beliefs, then you can tell them apart.
E. The Enemy
F. The Harvest
— the end of the age is the tribulation period leading right up to the millennial kingdom.
G.
The Reapers
— The angels
Don’t worry, Jesus is on the throne!
We don’t have force it.
We don’t have to enforce it.
It will grow along with the evil of this world.
It may start small like a mustard seed, but it will grow in influence and be strong.
It will also permeate the world like leaven.
It won’t be stopped!
