INTRODUCTION:

1. Each piece of the Armor of God is important.

A. The whole Armor is needed, but each piece plays a part within that whole.

Ephesians 6:11 NKJV
11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Eph 6.
Ephesians 6:13 NKJV
13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

B. Truth is an important part of the Armor of God.

2 Thessalonians 2:9–10 NKJV
9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2 Thess

1. If one does not have a love of truth, then one does not wear the Armor of God.

2 Thessalonians 2:11–12 NKJV
11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
2 Thess 2.

Introduction:

1. THE BELT HOLDS THE ARMOR TOGETHER:14A.

Ephesians 6:14 NKJV
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
Ephesians 6:14a NKJV
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

A. Everything else in the Armor is dependent on truth.

Ephesians 6:14 NKJV
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

1. Righteousness is dependent upon truth.

A. The definition of righteousness:

RIGHTEOUSNESS

1. dikaiosune (δικαιοσύνη, 1343) is “the character or quality of being right or just”; it was formerly spelled “rightwiseness,” which clearly expresses the meaning. It is used to denote an attribute of God, e.g., Rom. 3:5, the context of which shows that “the righteousness of God” means essentially the same as His faithfulness, or truthfulness, that which is consistent with His own nature and promises; Rom. 3:25, 26 speaks of His “righteousness” as exhibited in the death of Christ, which is sufficient to show men that God is neither indifferent to sin nor regards it lightly. On the contrary, it demonstrates that quality of holiness in Him which must find expression in His condemnation of sin.

“Dikaiosune is found in the sayings of the Lord Jesus, (a) of whatever is right or just in itself, whatever conforms to the revealed will of God, Matt. 5:6, 10, 20; John 16:8, 10; (b) whatever has been appointed by God to be acknowledged and obeyed by man, Matt. 3:15; 21:32; (c) the sum total of the requirements of God, Matt. 6:33; (d) religious duties, Matt. 6:1 (distinguished as almsgiving, man’s duty to his neighbor, vv. 2-4, prayer, his duty to God, vv. 5-15, fasting, the duty of self-control, vv. 16–18).

B. In order to be justified or right in God’s sight, one must have the truth.

1 Timothy 2:3–4 NKJV
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2 Timothy 2:3–4 NKJV
3 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.
1. In order to be approved of by God, one must rightly divide His Word, which is how one comes to the knowledge of the truth.
2 Timothy 3:15 NKJV
15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 2:15 NKJV
15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

2. The Gospel is dependent upon truth.

A. says the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation.

Romans 1:16 NKJV
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
1. The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation because it is the truth.
2 Timothy 4:1–4 NKJV
1 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
2 Timothy 4.1-

3. Faith is dependent upon truth.

A. Faith comes from God’s Word.

Romans 10:17 NKJV
17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

B. God’s Word is truth.

John 17:17 NKJV
17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

4. Salvation is dependent upon truth.

1 Timothy 2:3–4 NKJV
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
1 Timothy 2.

5. The sword of the Spirit is dependent upon truth.

A. Because the sword of the Spirit is the word of God.

Ephesians 6:17 NKJV
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
Eph 6.

17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

A. To sanctify means to set apart.

1. To sanctify by the truth means to be set apart by the truth.

2. This is what Peter was talking about when he called us a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, His own special people.

1 Peter 2:9 NKJV
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

3. This is how we are to be different than the rest of the world.

2 Peter 2:9 NKJV
9 then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment,
1 John 2:15–17 NKJV
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
2 Peter 2.
1 John 2.15-

B. The Greek definition of the word translated “church” is “to be called out.”

1. ekklesia (ἐκκλησία, 1577), from ek, “out of,” and klesis, “a calling” (kaleo, “to call”)

1. If we are going to be God’s church, we must be sanctified or called out to live by His truth.
2 Cor 6.17
2 Corinthians 6:17 NKJV
17 Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.”

A. There are many false teachers in the world.

2 Peter 2:1 NKJV
1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.

1. The truth sets us free from false teaching and the destruction that false teaching brings.

2. People of the world desire false teaching.

2 Timothy 4:3–4 NKJV
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
