Isaiah 57:15 ESV “For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.
Introduction:
Introduction:
A reminder is a person, object, or message that helps someone recall information or a memory, often to prevent forgetting or to trigger an action. Because of our feeble minds, we often need reminders to help jog and refresh our memory! Brothers the reason she gets mad is not because she does not recognized that you are human and forget somethings, she gets upset because all throughout the year, she gave you subtle reminders that your anniversary was approaching and yet you still forgot anyhow. Subtly she reminded you in January of your anniversary in July by saying “Baby what we gone do for our anniversary this year in July”
She gave you reminders with the hope and the expectation that you would not forget.
Revivals help remind us as believers that God is still God! It helps remind us that God is still faithful! It reminds us that God is still Holy! Revivals help re-awaken our love for God! It helps rekindle our fire! It helps restore our faith! It helps revitalize our hunger for God! It helps renew our commitment to Him! It helps rejuvenate our strength in the Lord!
Revival is not just about having another service, it’s about Spiritual re-awakening! It’s about restoring something that was lost within us! And often times we need a revival because we fall victim to routine and complacency! Often times we need a revival because we become oblivious and absent-minded of God and His word! We need a revival because often times we can find ourselves in a place to where we’re just going through the motions!
American Southern Baptist minister and evangelist, Vance Havner, once quoted that “Revival is the church falling in love with Jesus all over again”
And we need to remind ourselves of how we were when we first fell in love with Jesus!
Marriages, can be strengthened when husband and wife are often reminded of the person that they once fell in love with in the very beginning!
Stephen Olford quoted, that “Revival is an invasion from heaven that brings a conscious awareness of God.”
And we need heaven to invade our lives and bring us back to an awareness of who God is and what God can do!
Every now and then, we as believers get besides ourselves and we act as if we have forgotten who God is!
As we are approaching the halfway point of what seems like was just yesterday a brand new year, it may be somebody’s mindset that this brand new year has gotten old real quick! You’ve already experienced enough headache in 5 months than you envisioned you would all year. You’re already carrying more weight than you feel you can handle. And you feel as if just one more thing gets added to your load that you’re going to crumble and fall. We’re just halfway though the year and you’re already over 2026! And maybe you’re feeling that way because you’ve had a mental lapse of who God is! Maybe you’re focused more on your problem, than your problem solver! Because if you really remembered who God is, then you would unpack your luggage, and unfold all your burdens out before the Lord! Because you were reminded that His word says 1 Peter 5:7 “casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” You would remember His Word say in Matthew 11:28–30 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
And I don’t care how saved and sanctified and strong you are, we all needed to be reminded of who God is! Because the reality is that you may be saved, but you still struggle! You may be sanctified, but you still stumble sometimes! You may be strong in the world, but sometimes you still strain in the world!
[You ought to tell your neighbor again, neighbor, this message is just a reminder]
And I came to remind you that when you find yourself struggling and stumbling and straining with the issues of life, number 1, remember His Altitudinous Position!
Point #1: His Altitudinous Position
Point #1: His Altitudinous Position
“I dwell in the high and holy place,”
And that word altitudinous just means that He’s high in altitude!
Church I came to remind you, that the God we serve, still sits high and looks down low! I came to tell you that despite how difficult and chaotic and uncertain life may seem at times; despite the test and trials that come your way; despite the wickedness of the world around you, GOD, STILL RULES AND SUPER-RULES, THIS UNIVERSE!!!!
Psalm 47:8 “God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne.”
Psalm 113:5–6 “Who is like the Lord our God, Who dwells on high, Who humbles Himself to behold The things that are in the heavens and in the earth?”
You got to remember His lofty position! Don’t get so high and holy, that you no longer look up to God, but you’re now looking down on people! that sometimes God has to knock us down to get us to look up. Sometimes God has to allow us to experience some down moments so that we will change the trajectory of our gaze.
It was Isaiah who said in Isaiah 6:1 “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.”
A Time of Crisis: King Uzziah reigned for 52 years, providing stability and prosperity to Judah. His death—following a tragic end where he was struck with leprosy for prideful actions—created a power vacuum and national anxiety. In other words, it created a time of uncertainty in the nation of Judah.
The Vision: Amidst this national panic, Isaiah sees a different King: "the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up". This indicates that although the human king was dead, the divine King was still in control.
The nation of Judah was in a down moment! And it is in this down moment, that Isaiah sees the Lord, in His Altitudinous Position. Sometimes we’re so dependent on our own selves and even other people, that we forget how to trust and depend on God!
The world maybe going through an economic and social crisis, but it may just be to remind us of who Christ is! I heard somebody say things ain’t gone get no better, but I’m reminded by His Word, 2 Chronicles 7:14 “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
Where will He hear from? He’ll hear from His high and Holy place!
Point #2: His Abiding Presence
Point #2: His Abiding Presence
“and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit,”
We serve a God who is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent, and He’s sovereign enough to oversee what you’re going through, and yet social enough to go through it with you!
We serve a God, who is Omnipotent, meaning He’s all powerful! Meaning He’s mighty, and can do all things, as He has all power!
We serve a God, who is not only Omnipotent, but He’s also Omniscient! Meaning He’s all-knowing! He’s so all-knowing, the Bible says that He knows the end of a thing before the beginning of a thing! In other words, He knows how your circumstance will unfold, before it even folds together!
We serve a God who is not only Omnipotent, and Omniscient, but He’s also Omnipresent! Meaning He’s all-encomposing! He’s everywhere, at every time! He’s the only one who’s there before He arrives, and remains after He’s gone at the same time!
And this Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent God, is sovereign enough, to oversee what you’re going through, and yet at the same time, He’s social enough to go through it with you!
He’s far enough to monitor your issues, and yet close enough to carry your burdens!
And I wish I had about 9 people, I’ll make number 10, who can praise God not only for His lofty position, but also for His lowly presence! He walks with me! And He talks with me! and He tells me I am His own! And the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known!
Point #3: His Authenticated Promise
Point #3: His Authenticated Promise
“to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.”
And so not only do we need to be reminded of His Altitudinous Position, not only do we need to be reminded of His Abiding Presence, but we also need to be reminded of His Authenticated Promises!
You may be feeling as if the storm you’re in, is never going to pass! But let me remind you, that trouble don’t last always! He promised, in Psalm 30:5 “For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.”
You may be feeling as if things never work out for you! But let me remind you, surely they will! He promised, in Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
You may be feeling, as if the sins you’ve committed, are too much for God to forgive! But let me remind you, that certainly their not! He promised, in 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
You may be feeling, as if you’re all alone, and standing by yourself! Let me remind you, that’s never the case! He promised in Deuteronomy 31:8 “And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”
