War on the Seed a Mothers Day Message

Recap : We have been watching this war unfold through the plagues on Egypt—where God confronts the corrupt powers of the unseen realm, but this war didn’t start in Egypt. These powers influence nations, cultures, and political leaders such as kings like Pharaoh.

As we watch this war unfold as God confronts the rebellious powers of the unseen realm, we must go all the way back to the Garden of Eden. Here we see God appoints humanity to be His image bearers while exercising dominion upon the earth. Though created after the heavenly host, humanity is uniquely entrusted with God’s authority. The Nachash / Serpent in hopes of ruling God’s creation as his own and exalting himself equal to God, strategizes a plan of deception, and corruption, in direct opposition against God.

We know The Nachash /Serpent is a defeated foe, but the battle rages on for the souls of man. Here Humanity was drawn into this rebellion through deception and disobedience.

This war is merely a rebellion of created beings against the Creator, not co-equals!

Text : Genesis 3:15 “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”

This passage points forward to a conflict that is ultimately fulfilled in the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Seed here spoken of in this passage is in direct reference to The Messiah, God chooses to bring His Seed through the woman and He announces a Seed is coming and His Seed would crush the head of the serpent as He Himself would be bitten by the serpent bruising His heel.

The serpent strikes at the heel of the Messiah through suffering and death, but God ultimately defeats the serpent through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Question : What is Enmity ? Simply put hostility / war

So If the war is over the Seed, then take a look at how God protects that Seed—through mothers.

1.Eve

First Lady, wife of Adam was the first Matriarch as she was declared and named ( the Mother of All Living ) through whom the promise of the coming Seed was first given.

Now lets move forward as we watch God unfold His promise of the Coming Messiah through these Women of faith.

2. Next we have Sarah

The wife of Abraham who was to be the ( Father of many Nations ) Through whom all the world would be blessed. Just one problem Sarah was barren !

God opens Sarah’s womb in her old age and she gives birth to the Promised son Issac.

3. Next we have Rebekah.

This is where things get interesting, she is Barren too! But again God opens her womb and she conceives twins, Esau and Jacob. The interesting thing is in their culture the ( first born ) was to be the heir and become the next Patriarch of the family receiving a double portion inheritance, but in this case we see a reversal.

Rebekah is told in Gen 25:22-23 that in her womb is two nations and the older will serve the younger, thus we have the births of Esau and Jacob. These men would become the fathers of opposing nations Esau would become the father of Edom and Jacob would become the father of Israel.

Throughout Scripture, God often overturns human expectation—choosing the younger over the older, the unlikely over the expected, weak over the strong—to show that promise moves by grace, not by human tradition.

4. Next we have Rachel

Rachel also was Barren! She sees her sister bearing children and (cries give me children or I die). Gen. 30: 22 God remembers her opens her womb and she gives birth to Joseph, who happens to be the youngest of his siblings other than Benjamin. Thus God continues advancing His covenant promise.

5. Next we have Jochebed the Mother of Moses.

When the wicked king Pharaoh feared his kingdom being overcome from within by the Hebrews who had come to Egypt by the order of the previous Pharaoh to escape a famine, the presiding Pharaoh ordered a decree that all male Hebrew boys be cast into the Nile river and drowned.

This becomes another moment where the line of promise is threatened.

It was through her faith and bravery that she hid her son and wove an ark and placed her son in the Nile river in the shallow water near the reeds where Pharaoh’s daughter came to bathe in hopes that he would be found and spared which is just what happened ! By this God preserves a deliverer who will protect His people and His promise.

He is shortly adopted as the Son of Pharaoh’s Daughter, raised in the palace as a prince and becomes a deliverer of the Hebrews / God’s people from the bonds of slavery.

6. Now we come to Mary, The Mother of The Messiah

“Mary, a virgin, conceives by the power of the Holy Spirit during the reign of King Herod, who sought to destroy the promised Seed by killing the male children in Bethlehem two years old and younger. (Matthew 2:16). But even here, God preserves His promise. ( Jesus Christ—the promised Seed, the Son of God, the Savior of the world. )

In closing :

We trace the spiritual conflict between God and the rebellious powers of evil from the Garden of Eden to the coming of Jesus Christ. Beginning in Genesis 3:15, the message explains that the “war on the Seed” is the ongoing hostility between the serpent and the promised Messiah. The serpent sought to corrupt and destroy humanity and oppose God’s plan, but God promised that the Seed of the woman would ultimately crush the serpent through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

As we look throughout biblical history, God protected this promised Seed through faithful mothers. Eve first received the promise of the coming Deliverer. Sarah, Rebekah, and Rachel each experienced miraculous births despite barrenness, showing that God’s covenant moves by divine grace rather than human strength or tradition. Jochebed preserved Moses during Pharaoh’s slaughter of Hebrew boys, allowing God’s deliverer to survive. Finally, Mary gave birth to Jesus Christ, the promised Seed, even while Herod attempted to destroy Him.

Today we Honor and Acknowledge Mothers and their vital role in God’s redemptive plan through faith, courage, sacrifice, and obedience, as God chose a vessel commonly called mom to bring the ultimate gift of salvation—Jesus Christ, who defeats the serpent and offers eternal life to all who believe in Him.
