Matthew Chapter 10:26-42
Matthew Chapter 10:26-42
Introduction
We finished last weeks message discussing persecution.
Jesus taught the Apostles that it was imminent and right upon their heels.
The church has experienced persecution for the last 2000 years and will continue to do so until Christ returns.
We are told that in many places in the new testament.
We currently live in the devil’s world system.
As the church incrementally takes back the earthly kingdom for God, she will experience push back from the kingdom of darkness.
Satan is the god of this age but Christ is the God of all ages.
You can put your faith is Christ and His authority.
He will always rule and reign.
Last week I told you there are four division in this chapter.
We discussed the first division which was persecution.
2) is fear
3) is division
4) is rewards
Read verses 26-42
2) FEAR
Jesus states at the beginning of this passage to his disciples to proclaim what has been heard in the dark out in the open to everyone.
These dark sayings Jesus is referring too are the parables.
Two weeks ago we discussed Jesus speaking in parables to hide the truth from the religious leaders due to their blasphemy.
The gospel is meant to be presented everywhere.
The world has been hostile to the gospel since the beginning.
We live in this false notion that you can live in a world where church and state can be separate.
One will be your ultimate authority.
They removed Christ from the public schools years ago.
Did they stay neutral? Absolutely not. They are trying to replace Christ with Allah in many schools.
Neutrality is a myth and it must be removed from your thinking.
So no matter the threat remember Jesus said don’t fear the one that can kill the body
But fear the one who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
Scripture teaches us plainly to Fear God.
We are to have a holy reverence for him that drives us to our knees in daily repentance.
This goes contrary to the squishy Jesus so many love to bring up.
If we fear Christ’s judgement more than any other person on the planet, the Church would be a whirl wind of destruction to satan’s kingdom.
Don’t read(this aloud) verses 29-33
Jesus brings another part of the creation into this section.
Sparrows. Simple birds that most people just catch in a glance and forget about almost immediately
Jesus reassures the apostles by telling them not a single bird dies without our Father’s approval.
Every living being that passes passes only when God says it’s your time to appear before the judgement seat of Christ.
God cares for us so much that he knows the number of hair on our heads.
He knows how many skin cells you shed daily
He knows how many beats your heart beats every single day
He knows exactly how many thoughts you will have every single day of our lives
He is actively present in his creation
He is not far off
Jesus said I will be with you to the end of the age which means he is here now
Present in our midst
He goes on to tell them in verse 32-33 to be faithful in their testimony.
He knows they are soon going to experience martyrdom.
These words had to ring out in their minds before their deaths.
Jesus is saying don’t forget I’m the door John 10.
The only way into heaven is by the shed blood of Christ.
If you deny him before men, he will deny you before the father.
That door will be shut/ No entrance/ On your way to hell you go
NO MATTER WHAT YOU EXPERIENCE IN THIS WORLD CHURCH JESUS IS ENOUGH
We cling to him because he has the words to eternal life
He is eternal life
3) Division
So many people are used to familiar ties saving them in tis world
Jesus tells us don’t put faith in that
Once you proclaim the name of Christ, your very own family will turn on you.
History proves Christ right
The Apostles very on family turned on them
This still happens today.
A lot of faiths across the world mark family members who turn to Christ and avoid them
Some worse
We are all to take up our crosses/ Following Jesus is a denial and death to self of the individual
There is no individualistic Christianity
There is only what the master commands and our disobedience
Example: God commands but I really want to do xyz
We go through all the hard passages to arrive at comfort.
4) Rewards
Jesus promises rewards to the righteous
St Paul tells us we have a crown laid up for us in heaven.
We are currently seated with Christ in heavenly places.
When Christ comes back will will be ruling with the 12 Apostles judging the twelve tribes of Israel
“You are those who have stayed with me in my trials, and I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom, that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
The very people who had the apostles killed Jesus promised the tables would be turned at the end of human history.
As Christians, when someone comes against you leave it in God’s hands
If they don't repent, you will be judging them at the return of Christ.
Closing prayer!
