Love Rooted in God’s word - Scripture defines love and anchors it in obedience not in emotion.
Love guided by truth - Love must be truthful; truth must be loving.
Love that discerns - Scripture trains our hearts to love wisely, not blindly.
Love that corrects - God’s word corrects us in love, and equips us to lovingly restore others.
(Transition) Today we move to the kind of love that lasts — the love that doesn’t quit when relationships get hard. This is love that endures, and Scripture is the only thing strong enough to sustain it.
Love that lasts. When you get married you have hope that your marriage will last, you do not know, but you make a promise, you enter into a covenant, you have hope that it will last and you go forth. Many these days do not endure, persevere for various reasons. Maybe that does not fit you. What about children, you hold a precious baby in your arms (insert Nikki baby, teen, choices, adulthood, still a love as a parent endures). God’s love, God’s word endures.
Endurance does not comes from feelings. It comes from preparation, strength, and something deeper than the moment. The same is true of love.
Biblical love is not fragile. It is fortified by the word of God!

The Word Gives Strength to Persevere

Turn with me to Romans 15:1–6 “Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves. Each of us is to please his neighbor for his good, to his edification. For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached You fell on Me.” For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, so that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Our focus is (v.4) but need to keep in context.
Scripture strengthens the weary heart
God’s Word replenishes what trials drain.
Encouragement comes from Scripture, not from circumstances.
Scripture gives perspective beyond the moment
Endurance grows when we see God’s bigger story.
The Word reminds us that love is worth the struggle.
Scripture anchors hope
Hope fuels endurance.
Without Scripture, love collapses under pressure
Application: If you’re running low on love, you’re probably running low on Scripture.
Below is slide on PowerPoint
Here is another verse to consider: Isaiah 40:31 “Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.”

Love Bears and Believes Through Trials (1Cor13:7)

1 Corinthians 13:7 “bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
Love Bears —it carries weight
Bears = to cover, support, to hold up
Love doesn’t run from burdens; it shoulders them.
Love believes - it chooses trust over suspicion
Not gullibility, but a posture of grace.
Love gives the benefit of the doubt.
Love hopes — it refuses to give up on God’s work
Hope keeps love from becoming cynical
Hope looks forward to what God can do
Love endures — it stays when others walk away
Endurances is the final proof of genuine love
This is impossible with the Word shaping the heart
Heb12:1 is on a PowerPoint Slide
Endurance, consider: Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,”
Application: Enduring love is not natural — it is supernatural, formed by scripture.

The Word Sustains Love When Emotions Fade

Feelings fluctuate; Scripture stabilizes
Emotions are real but unreliable.
The Word gives love a foundation deeper than mood.
Scripture reminds us of God’s enduring love for us
We love because He first loved us — consistently, patiently, sacrificially.
God’s love toward us becomes the model and motivation for our love toward others.
Scripture renews the mind so love can continue
When bitterness, fatigue, or disappointment creep in, the Word recalibrates the heart.
Without renewal, love decays.
Application: When love feels impossible, Scripture makes it possible again.

Practical Application

When someone is difficult to love
Return to scripture for strength and perspective (Eph4:32)
Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.”
When love feels one-sided
Remember God’s love toward you was undeserved and unreciprocated at first (1Jn4:19)
1 John 4:19 “We love, because He first loved us.”
When you feel like giving up
Let Scripture restore hope and endurance (Gal6:9)
Galatians 6:9 “Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.”
When emotions are empty
Let obedience lead and feelings follow (1Jn3:18)
1 John 3:18 “Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.”
(Conclusion) - Enduring love is not powered by human strength. It is shaped, sustained, and strenghtened by the Word of God. When love is difficult, undeserved, or unreciprocated, Scripture equips us to keep loving faithfully — just as God has loved us.
