We will pick up in Acts chapter 8
Verse 26-27 , So after the success in Samaria the Holy Spirit leads Philip to a desolate place which is interesting to think about how well things where going now Gods like okay now head to the desert road.
Eunuch- Is a trusted royal servant to the queen , he was likely a “God fearer” because he went to Jerusalem for worship but he may have been a full convert.
Verse 29, Its interesting to think of God asking Philip to leave a fruitful ministry to go to a desert and sometimes God will ask us to do things that don’t always make since to our human brains. We cannot tell the future and we cannot always understand what God is up to. BUT Philip was willing and submitted to the leading of the Holy Spirit even though it likely seemed silly. God had a plan and a purpose for Philip to go down that desert road.
Verse 30, it is common for people in this day and age to read aloud and what he is reading is absolutely the Holy Spirit at work because the Eunuch is reading Isaiah 53:3–5 “He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.”
There could not be a better passage for him to have been reading and a eunuch would have been restricted from participating in temple worship because they were often castrated for their service to royalty. SO the Eunuch wouldn’t have the understanding of the scriptures.
Verse 36, The Holy Spirits leading is so evident as they come across this body of water on a DESERT road where this Eunuch requested baptism. It paints a beautiful picture of how God directs our steps. WE don’t always know why he leads us places but if we don’t surrender to the leading of the Spirit we wont see these things happen.
Philip was ready, willing and available ARE WE?
