INTRODUCTION
Summarize previous week: Pray with sincerity
This week we are looking at the Lord’s Prayer
PRAYER
HOOK-Learning how to play disc golf using Youtube videos
Transition to text: When you find a great model, it is important to follow the directions of the person.
Matthew 6:9-13
Transition to Main Point:

MAIN POINT: Follow Jesus’ Model for Prayer: Acknowledge and Ask

Acknowledge God has Holy and Sovereign

EXPLAIN
The first part of the model deals with understanding the holiness of God.
Ezekiel 36:23 “I will honor the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations—the name you have profaned among them. The nations will know that I am the Lord—this is the declaration of the Lord God—when I demonstrate my holiness through you in their sight.”
When we pray, we need to have an attitude of humility in addressing God. He is a Holy God that deserves our reverence. Also, we need to know God is sovereign.

SOVEREIGNTY—of God, his absolute right to do all things according to his own good pleasure (

God has all authority in our life, we should pray HIS will be done because the whole world is HIS Kingdom. Daniel 2:44 ““In the days of those kings, the God of the heavens will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, and this kingdom will not be left to another people. It will crush all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, but will itself endure forever.”

APPLICATION
Colossians 3:1–2 “So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
Now, we begin to see three specific categories of asking.

Ask God for daily provision

EXPLAIN
“Daily bread” means continual daily bread. This is a reference to the “manna” God provided in Exodus 16. Manna, described in the Bible, is the miraculous food provided by God to the Israelites during their 40 years in the wilderness after the exodus from Egypt. The term "manna" is derived from the Hebrew word that means "What is it?" reflecting the Israelites' initial confusion upon encountering it. This white, coriander seed-like substance tasted like honey wafers and served as their primary sustenance until they reached the promised land. God instructed the Israelites to gather only enough for each day, with a double portion on the sixth day to honor the Sabbath. Manna not only met their physical needs but also tested their faith and trust in God, as they often complained and longed for the foods of Egypt. Despite their lack of faith, God consistently provided for them, emphasizing His covenant and the importance of obedience and trust in His promises.
It is great knowing that God provides all of our needs, so we do not need to worry.
ARGUE
What about when time, money, and other “needs” are lacking? Trust God will come through. He never fails.

2 Kings 4:1–7 CSB
One of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant, my husband, has died. You know that your servant feared the Lord. Now the creditor is coming to take my two children as his slaves.” Elisha asked her, “What can I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” She said, “Your servant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.” Then he said, “Go out and borrow empty containers from all your neighbors. Do not get just a few. Then go in and shut the door behind you and your sons, and pour oil into all these containers. Set the full ones to one side.” So she left. After she had shut the door behind her and her sons, they kept bringing her containers, and she kept pouring. When they were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another container.” But he replied, “There aren’t any more.” Then the oil stopped. She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go sell the oil and pay your debt; you and your sons can live on the rest.”
APPLICATION
Don’t worry about your life Matthew 6:25,33-34
Matthew 6:25 CSB
“Therefore I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing?
Matthew 6:33–34 CSB
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Ask for forgiveness

EXPLAIN
“Forgive us our debts”=> DEBTS=SINS
There are two parts of the forgiveness in the prayer. First, our forgiveness.
Confessing our sin lifts burdens from our hearts. Before we go to asking God, we should see if we have any sin to confess or lack of forgiveness toward someone else.
Forgiveness of others is not optional for believers; it is a command that reflects our understanding of God’s grace. The model of prayer that Jesus taught the disciples includes the phrase, “Forgive us as we forgive others” The question that remains is this, Do we want to be forgiven as we forgive?
ARGUE
My forgiveness: I might shock God with my sin. NO YOU WON’T. Confess means to agree with.
Forgiveness of others: People don’t deserve my forgiveness. Forgiving others is not for them. It frees us and reflects God’s character.
ILLUSTRATE
The danger of unconfessed sin. (Forgiving James)
APPLICATION
Remember forgiving others frees you. Also, tell God your sin because he already knows. 1 John 1:9
1 John 1:9 CSB
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Ask for deliverance from evil

EXPLAIN
Matthew A. Seek Your Reward from God, Not from People (6:1–18)

If the preceding request for forgiveness is curative spiritual medicine, then this request is the preventative medicine. Forgiveness is required to deal with guilt already incurred. Deliverance from temptation and evil is required to prevent our incurring future guilt. The kingdom servant’s petition for both forgiveness and deliverance is a prayer dealing with the power of sin (

There are trials in our life James 1:2-4
James 1:2–4 CSB
Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing.
We can have deliverance from evil.
1 John 5:18–19 CSB
We know that everyone who has been born of God does not sin, but the one who is born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him. We know that we are of God, and the whole world is under the sway of the evil one.
ARGUE
Temptation is too much. There isn’t a way out.
1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has come upon you except what is common to humanity. But God is faithful; he will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to bear it.”
ILLUSTRATE
Finding an escape route when flagging traffic
APPLICATION
There is always a way out of temptation.

Conclusion

When trying to follow Jesus’ model for prayer, remember to PRAY
Praise: Acknowledge all God has done
Repent: Ask for repentance
Ask: Ask for needs (others and your own)
Yield: Listen to God
