What we read in final chapters of 2 Samuel. and 1 Chr 21-29 this week:
David gives his final reflections about righteous leadership, God’s covenant, and God’s faithfulness.
The stories and accomplishments of David’s mighty men are recorded.
David takes a census of Israel despite warnings from Joab.
God judges Israel for the census through a devastating plague.
David repents and builds an altar on the threshing floor
God stops the plague, and the site is identified as the future location of the Temple in Jerusalem.
David begins gathering massive amounts of materials for the future Temple.
Solomon is chosen and commissioned to build the Temple.
David organizes the Levites, priests, musicians, gatekeepers, treasurers, and worship leaders for Temple ministry.
David structures the military, tribal leadership, and national administration of Israel.
David gives Solomon the plans and instructions for building the Temple.
David and the leaders of Israel give generous offerings for the Temple project.
David publicly blesses and praises God before the nation.
Solomon is officially established as king of Israel.
David dies after securing the kingdom and preparing the way for Solomon’s reign and the building of the Temple.
1 Chronicles 21:22–28“Then David said to Ornan, “Give me this threshing-floor plot so that I may build an altar to the Lord on it. Give it to me for the full price, so the plague on the people may be stopped.” Ornan said to David, “Take it! My lord the king may do whatever he wants. See, I give the oxen for the burnt offerings, the threshing sledges for the wood, and the wheat for the grain offering—I give it all.” King David answered Ornan, “No, I insist on paying the full price, for I will not take for the Lord what belongs to you or offer burnt offerings that cost me nothing.” So David gave Ornan fifteen pounds of gold for the plot. He built an altar to the Lord there and offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. He called on the Lord, and he answered him with fire from heaven on the altar of burnt offering. Then the Lord spoke to the angel, and he put his sword back into its sheath. At that time, David offered sacrifices there when he saw that the Lord answered him at the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.”

A sacrifice of praise is costly.

land became known as Mt Moriah.
Cost us an counter-intuitive action.
Intuitively we want to run, escape, or numb out when trouble surrounds us.
When suffering hits, we cling to comforts of earth.
Renewed Resilience
Renewed Resilience
Last week I shared about building resilience…which ultimately comes from being rooted in God’s presence.
Resilience is the capacity to adapt, recover, and continue moving forward through stress, difficulty, loss, or change without losing your core identity or purpose.
Resilience is renewed by renewing our mind through meditating on God’s Word.
Resilience is renewed by renewing our mind through meditating on God’s Word.
Resilience is costly worship.
Resilience is renewed with the washing of the Word.
...god’s word is the source of our identity and purpose.
SPIRIT and TRUTH unleash God’s presence…God’s word is both.
Today I want to model and create space for you to renew your resilience by being refreshed from God’s word. We will read and meditate on the scriptures.
this is what helps me renew my resilience when I’ve been depleted.
